[align=left]Presidential candidate Ron Paul believes that an attack on Iran is highly likely within a year and that the Bush administration is simply waiting for the right opportunity, or event on which to blame Iran, before launching the assault.
"If I were a betting man I would bet that they will attack Iran before the end of this administration, which means in the next year or so," the Congressman told the Alex Jones Show today.
"The plans have been laid just like the plans were laid to go into Iraq a long time before they did but they had to wait for the right opportunity." [/align]

The Presidential candidate said he had "Talked to some military people and historians who knew the region," and they they told him "it would be the most disastrous thing we could do for our own sake," jeopardizing the lives of U.S. troops in Iraq and trapping them from getting out of the Persian Gulf.

Rhetoric regarding a potential military attack on Iran has heated again over the past few days, and President Bush himself stoked the flames further today when he warned of the risk of a "nuclear holocaust" if the country was allowed to acquire nuclear capability.
In a speech Monday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that a diplomatic push by the world's powers to rein in Tehran's nuclear program was the only alternative to "an Iranian bomb or the bombing of Iran."
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today stated that a U.S. attack on Iran was "impossible" due to U.S. troops being tied down in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also dismissed Sarkozy's warning, calling the French premiere "inexperienced" and labeling his comments as purely "for the consumption of his inner circles."[/align]

I wouldn't be shocked if somebody starts dropping some big bombs on Iran. They are, after all, flouting international law and agreements. I'm pretty sure you're *supposed* to be punished when you do that, so that other countries don't start flouting international law and agreements too, causing the whole world to collapse into lawless chaos and engender a worldwide race for nuclear weapons.

They kinda seem to be asking for it, thumbing their nose at the rest of the world, giving international law the finger. You do that enough and yeah, you're likely gonna get a smackdown. Iran *is* working on nuclear weapons and refuses to comply with international law. There is no debate about that; they admit it openly and freely. Well, they deny that it's *weapons* they're developing but you'd have to be a child to believe that, especially in light of how much information they are refusing to provide about their activities. If it's all peaceful, why refuse *any* information? In any case, you're comparing apples and oranges.

BTW, I'm a liberal; I don't watch much FAUX news, if any. Well, occasionally, for a laugh or two. But I'm not possessed of such low intelligence that I'd confuse Iraq and Iran. Yes, there's only one letter different in the names, which seems to be about as far as your brains are capable of going, but mine works a little better than that.

Does anyone get the fact that Iran has a million man suicide army that would run over Iraq in 2-3 days killing every american in sight. They have thousands of tanks and heavy artillery. They might not win the air war, but they would surely fuck over US soldiers in Iraq, and if we go to Nukes, I believe the Russians And the chinese may get involved, then we go to defcon 1 and deploy our nuclear sub missles and it is over, Does anyone get this? First part of this is...yes, it's incredibly scary to know they have like 40,000 people who have signed up to be "martyred" for their country, should it be attacked or invaded. But I think the situation is worse than Iranians killing American troops over there..they will probably try to hit America directly...

We seem to share the opinion that Iraq has elements to it that aren't in the best interests of either America or Iraq...and it was done in a bad fashion..but it was done. So accept it. And try to make it the most positive thing you can.
Iran on the other hand is extremely dangerous. Hell, I don't even need a big 6-10 month propaganda machine(which i believe is increasingly prevalent, both here and in America)to convince me! I know that guy is insane. I don't need any other reason than that. He is Hitler, 2.0.

-was the sole largest threat and cause of WW2.

Iranian President
-hates the jewish people , doesn't accept homosexuality, or anything not in accordance with Islamic law and custom.
-is currently being appeased to with use of sanctions, and the support of China and Russia
-WILL kill many people if we continue to appease.
-and WILL be the cause of WW3..if we do nothing.
If that isnn't chillingly similar behavio(u)r, I don't know what is.
Finally...I'd say the strongest indicator would be the way Iran communicates with countries like Britain and America...hell even Canada(Killing of Iranian-Canadian journalist Zahra Kazemi...google for more info). They just aren't rational to deal with.

And not saying it's a good thing, but it's reality that if you talk to the US and you entice them...piss them off enough...you'll get put in your place. NOT saying it's right....but they are the superpower..just the way it is.

In a rather surprise developement today, Russia announced that it would not supply the enriched fuel that Iran needs to operate their new nuclear reactor. Apparently Russia has finally awakened to the fact that a nuclear Iran is not exactly in their best interests either.

... and Russia couldn't really care if Iran got nuked into the stone age - it would only serve to increase the value of their oil reserves.

The Chinese economy would crumble if they didn't have America to sell their products to. So China simply is not a military threat. (Any close look at China would show that their plan for dominance in the world is economic, not military.)

Iran is not breaking any international law. There is no international law against building nukes. There is only an agreement that countries will get cheap uranium if they don't build nukes. But taking part of this agreement is voluntary.

I have never seen George Bush say that some religious prophet will show up and wipe out a country that he hates because of its religion and culture. You see, the US has a very apparent religious right, but unlike Islam, it does not follow the notion that you need to kill...maybe in mass amounts, to secure you..and preach that religion is the basis for such treatment. Their religion is like a way of life. To ALL of them! Here in the West, there is more of a separation of church and state. We are slowly evolving away from that.

You can still argue Bush has quite a religious emphasis, but it doesn't compare to the Iranian President's. Iran has an ayatolla...I don't think the US has an equivalent to that...correct me if wrong?
