do you know if its safe to break up the weed from its buds way before smoking? and is their any particular way buds should be stored? i have alot of buds but i dont know whether to roll j's now with it or later right before smoking. also how do you tell early on whether a plant is male or female?

basically the answer to all your questions (except the plant sexing question) is Bud is great to smoke anywhere (except your mom's) and any time (literally). You can roll your joint in the morning and smoke it a week later if you'ed like, the thc is still there and its not going anywhere. The only disadvantage about breaking up, rolling and smoking your bud later is that weed has a tendency to to dry up real fast after its been let out of the baggie, so you wont get the same refreshing smoke session that you could of had if you'ed smoked it right away. Instead it'll feel rougher on u're throat when you take a hit. Even though it's bagged up, it is still gonna dry up within a week or so (this is why dealers never buy grass they can't slang right away). When you think u'red bud is too dry, simply add orange peels inside the baggie over night, and in the morning remove the peels and what you should have left is soft, cushy bud. Some people don't like to do this cuz it'll leave an orangy after taste, but hey, I'ed rather smoke fresh herbs that have an orangy after taste them then smoke dry'ed up nasty shit. I can't really help you too much with the plant question, all I know is that in the middle of the plant where it is supposed to start budding the males grow like flowery substance (not too positive on how it looks) and females should grow like a hairy substance. Sorry I can't tell u much besides that. I hope I helped and good luck with your herbs.

IMHO here's how I would do it. I would stay away from using orange peels (or any other peels) becuase of the increased chance of bringing mold to your stash. If you have a small personal amount this shouldn't be as much of a problem. You said you ahve large amounts though, and i wouldn't take chances. To rehydrate your stash you can put in a qtip dipped in water, or buy a cheap cigar humidifier (not the humidor, simpel credo caps will do, about $2)
If you have larger amounts that need to be stored for longer times I'd suggest a few other things. First dry your stuff (if it was wet to start) but not so dry it crumbles. Then if you plan on storing it for over 2 weeks put it in airthigh containers and freeze it. Mason jars work great. Airthight so your stash doesn't dry out and keeps "new" air out, and freeze tokeep it better. Do this because air (ozygen to be more exact) does hurt THC over time. Under a few weeks you should be fine though, just keep it out of sunlight etc.
if your not storing it for that long or dont' have those kinds of amounts just keep it in a baggie or better yet jar.

I would avoid rolling your joint well in advance, things will get too dried out, and it will burn faster than desireable. Breaking up your stuff is fine, as long as it doesn't dry out. It's actually kind of nice to keep a small side stash of broken up stuff, to load into a bowl/joint quickly.

Freezing marijuana makes the resin glands brittle, and the trichomes will easily break off if the container is moved. The simple fact is, you lose THC when you freeze your bud (the THC will still be there, but it'll be tough to gather and smoke, as it will fall and look like fine pollen in the bottom of your container) Freezing your bud IS good, however, when making hashish, for this very same reason.
when i finally get the nerve to start growing my own stash...i'm coming here. you guys are gooooooooooood. don't know how my husband'll feel about that, but hey, he'll get over it.
if your talking about a few days,breaking up a few buds ect,and rolling a some jionts,
it aint no biggy,we all have done that im sure,roll enough to smoke on a couple days
but i like rolling it as i smoke it myself,just a ritual in some ways the act of sitting down and pulling a bud out of bag,breaking it up and rolling a fresh jiont and liting it up while that taiste is just a nice aroma type thing just before ya light it ya draw thru it and it you can enjoy that one'dry hit' of flavor before doing so.
but thats just me,i like to sample the flavor of the weed before burning
to store it for a long time i dont recommend doing so,
and look on the cultivation section for pics.,of male and female
