Granny Arrested For Special Plant

GREENSBORO, N.C. - A 71-year-old woman was arrested on drug charges after a chest-high marijuana plant was found in her yard, a plant she said was meant to keep animals away from her garden.

A sheriff's deputy saw the plant as he drove past Betty Holt Walker's home earlier this month, according to Capt. Tony Caliendo of the Guilford County Sheriff's Department.

The deputy stopped to investigate and found five smaller plants behind a shed, as well as marijuana stems and seeds, and a water bong made from a soda bottle inside the house, Caliendo said.

Walker told the deputy she found the first plant - which had grown to more than 4 feet tall when he saw it - in her garden and repotted it. She said it was a special plant used to keep animals out of her front yard.

"This wasn't something that was meant to keep animals away," Caliendo said.

Walker is due in court Sept. 12 to face charges of manufacturing marijuana and felony possession of marijuana. A daughter who lives in the home was unaware the plants were in the yard and was not charged, Caliendo said.


How sad Granny got busted for the love of a special plant. Hope they don't lock her up. If so they should start a petition. This is ridiculuos!

This shit is disgusting. If any charges actually go through I would be willing to march for her freedom.

I hope she was let off...her court date was yesterday. I will see if I can find out what happened.

So depressing that the authorities have nothing better to do than bother a Granny having a smoke. Crazy! I bet MORE animals came to her yard after growing that plant! What a waste of our court's time! :(:wtf:

It was completely retarded of her to have the plants in view, especially somewhere where it is illegal.

If you are stupid and plant the plants in plain view, do you expect a cop who drives by and sees them not to do anything? Yes she shouldnt have gotten arrested and weed should be legal blah blah blah but stupid people generally have bad things happen to them. Youd like to think by this time shed have a nice glass bong and not seem like a complete crackhead smoking a homeade soda bottle bong either.

^It's even more retarded to think a 71 year old growing pot is worth all that paperwork, not to mention tax dollars on this case. And how did the daughter not know anything? Something doesn't seem right in this case....

I'm gonna agree with you 100% on this. Stupid people usually do get whats coming to them, but this is not about that, not to me anyways. Why would you do that to a 71 year old woman? Pretty inhumane in my opinion. It's not like she has a life time to enjoy herself, and if shes not bothering anyone, whats the problem? Not exactly a menace to society. If I was the cop I would of told her to move them some where not so visible, and maybe offer to help. Shits not right man, just not right. :(

I bet the granny had nothing to do with the plants, but the daughter planted them to get rid of granny, and made a homemade bong as evidence! Then tipped off a cop about the plants growing in the yard, anomously(sp?).


But thats my own thought of train....train of thought.

I certainly wouldnt do that, I think I would do what you suggested if I was the cop. But who knows, one may get a maladjusted policeman who doesnt see the greater picture of the situation.

I agree that she isnt a menace...lol. I dont know, another bad judgement call by an officer. If the neighbors complain, then at least tell her to move it or at least just take it and confiscate it or something minimal but more acceptable than going to the slammer.
