ah its purple

i was walking through my plants before setting off to school this morning and i noticed my cali big bud, leaf stems were purple, not the whole leaf, just the stems, and it seems to have entered flowering maybe two weeks ago.

i was thinking maybe cold weather? its my first outdoor grow, but the weather really hasn't been cold, so i have no idea.

oh yeah im using some blooming stuff like once every 3 or 4 waterings. and they are in the sun for most of the day.
any info greatly appreciated...:hippy:

no i snipped a leaf off of all of my plants today and im gonna frame them in my toking room.

the weard thing is i have two cali big bud plants and only 1 of them has that bit of purple on its stems

is the main stem showing any purple on it? hope that snippin of the leaves didn't shock your plant a little, last year i think i pulled to many off mine for the same purpse of urs bro :rastasmoke: and thats maybe why it was a hermie :wtf: but if it was just one from each plant they should be fine

I think purple veins means that your plant is cold just something I heard in the nirvana forum

should i trim shade leaves off of the indica bush? a buddy said i should and i said maybe lemme ask someone else first.
so any opinions?

not so much 'cold', as it indicates a wide temperature swing ... red stems also can indicate a phosphorous deficiency, not a big deal, really ... :smokin:

umm reaper, do you think it would be ok to give her a lil more bloomer? its like 5- 30-5 or something close.

don't know how often you feed, but I would mix the nutes at 50% strength, and feed once a week, stopping ALL feeding two weeks before harvest (usually, during blooming, you can stop nitrogen altogether, but you're OK) ... also, flush well at that time ... overall, your plants look good ... good work :thumbsup:

ur soils ph is low 6.3 or so
adding hort lime will raise ph level back to safe rang 6.9 to 7.1
check soils ph often throughout grow
also
space out ur plants more next year 3 to 5 feet per plant
mulch beds
add organic seaweed

im thinking of making a HUGE planterbox out of railroad ties, there pretty cheap, so i could do a 15 by 15 bed, freaking awesome...

hey man i have two plants that are the same exact way... purple all down the leaf stems.. its already budding good considering its the middle of august and im in florida.. does the purple in the first pic look anything like yours? the second pic is that same plant.. the third pic is the second one i have with purple which is also starting to heavily bud... the purple shit is cool aint it? even when i look at the buds in the right light, alllllll the hairs are purple, no joke... maybe its a good thing.. but this is just bagseed im growin here man.. well lemme know if this looks like yours.. scratch that, the very last pic is the purpleish.. this is the best my cam will catch it

it looks like there is more purple there than on mine, has yours been that way since they were in ground?

be sure you use old, weather-beaten ties, as the new ones will leach creosote into the soil for years ... plants won't like that ... :smokin:

mine never got in the ground :D started them in 2 inch seedpots, then 4 inch, then one gallon, then 7 gallon, then 25 gallon

here in florida a hurricane is potentially always around the corner so planting in the ground isint wise for me, although i know that you'd get a much better plant that way

this purple might not be good for us though, as previously stated it could be a deficiancy of some sort.. hopefully it just means that this is the holy grail of kind bud :D

well the one that turned purple is called love potion... wonder if it will live up to its name? haha

and as for the defiency i studied it a little more, and the info checks out.

cant wait to do next years grow log with lots of pics and details...

sorry but a deficancies r not a good thing check ur soil ph its low 6.3 or so

to fix it:
add hort lime found at garden centers n follow unstructions
wait n recheck it 6.9 to 7.1 good ph range
fix ur ph problems before adding more ferts
ur purple leaf stems will not change but new will be green again

i think ive established twice that i know that a deficiancy is a bad thing ... but like i said, its allllllll up in the buds too, all the hairs are purple, and i have another plant thats doing the same.. but i have two other plants that havent a hint of purple whatsoever, and theyre all in the same kind of dirt, same water regimen, same nute regimen.. its hard to say if its a deficiancy or not

well shes grown about six inches and budded more than all of the other plants, so im not trippin, when i get some money ill go get some hort lime.

heres some better shots of the purple.. you can see in the very first pic that the branches are starting to get it to, so, most likely a deficency

Purpling: accumulation of anthocyanin pigments; causes an overall dark green color with a purple, red, or blue tint, and is the common sign of phosphate deficiency. Some plant species and varieties respond to phosphate deficiency by yellowing instead of purpling. Purpling is natural to some healthy ornamentals.

its wierd tho, i know mine aint phosphate deficiant.. the fertilizer i am using is 55% phosphate

whats the soils ph?

soil ph of 7 is to high for outdoor soil 6 - 6.5 is best.

Anything between 6 - 7 is adequite.

well alright but my 32 females r happy with a soil ph of 6.9 not any complaints so far

it looks like i have the same plant as you the buds are even the same and the stem to the leaves are purple and the pistils are purple i think its completely normal for this strain my ph level is perfect and i have a good nute combo so i hope its just bomb dank

i agree the cold lower temps slow or stop uptake of phosphorus

dude IMO theres no need to flush in soil the only purpose that serves is to starve the plant


flushing is only required in hydro
