Nute problem or just getting old...

I have two OG Kush clones as some of you might know. I noticed that some of the leaves, no particular pattern, are spiraling. Its hard to explain, they are twisted in a spiral shape. I was told by my local hydro guy that this is a sign of genetics getting to old. he asked if it was a clone and if it was over three yrs old. It is I replyed and he said that is prolly your problem. That plants can deform a little in that same manner, if they are getting old. i.e. a clone of a clone of a clone ect. Any one ever experience this when dealing with clone only, or older genetics?

Also I might add that the leaves dont have any legions, burn marks, or chlorosis, just the occasional spiral leave. And on the leaves, it will only happens to the middle finger, not the other 4-6 fingers on the leaves. weird, i know.... laterz..

well since no one answered, and i have no experience i went to my ask Ed book...Ed says that genetic weakness can occur over a span of time when one is crossing or breeding genetics...clones are the exact replica of their mother and have no genetic weakness but are identical to the mother...so if you're mother doesn't have the problem then its probably something wrong with nutes, ph, etc...its also possible your plants could have picked up a disease during cloning which has now polluted the line with an underlying disease...just did a lil research but i honestly have no expeience with cloning...i'm one of the few who like the variety given within a particular pack of F-1's because each plant has its own unique qualities...i like variety in my smoke

some strains are very sensitive to nutes and if given too much will spiral....
also, is there any chance your light cycle got messed up? if you let something go into flowering and then push it back to vegging leaves can spiral

My Jock Horror does that. I think, at least for Jock Horror, that's just the way it is. It hasn't seemed to harm anything: yield is fine, taste is fine, potency is fine. So I just quit sweating it. I figure if I start adding this nute or subtracting that nute, that will likely lead to me doing more harm than good, and since it's caused no problems, I'm not messin' with 'em, personally. ;)

I run OG Kush 'abusive' and it is a funky looking plant to begin with. Do you have pics? Do you know which of the 3 lines it came down from? Abusive, San Fernando Valley, or Ghost?

I will try to post the pics I have tonight. I have no idea what line it follows stinky. This is the same OG Kush I was telling you about in the other thread, the one that the the guy claimed it to be a purple pheno. I think we decided on it being a cross of OG Kush and a unknown purple strain. Only real way to tell is to flower some clones and have some buds to test out. Any one want to help me smoke it? hehehe :) I guess it would be hard to tell if it has real OG Kush in it or not since I have never smoked any OG kush before. Hey stinky, what does your abusive taste and smell like? Currently with the plant in veg, it smells stronger then some other plants in flower!!! Its a really strong skunk oder. Like a actual skunk, rather than a skunky planty smell that so many other bud plants have in veg.

Megatron, I only just acquired the cuts and the first flower cycle is not yet complete- gimme a couple weeks?

Here is the issues i was talking about. The first one is a pic of the deformality that is bothering me. And the 2nd pic is of the twisting I was talking about. Does any one know what this is, or experienced this before? Thanks!

Just for the record, I do think the light schedule I have it on is a little different form the one the grower had it set to. Mine is currently set to come on at 6am central time, and off at midnight. Thats 18/6. Oh and, do you guys like my new pipe? :) Its a Crush piece, I love there glass work! I got bored with and took some pics of the pipe with a loaded bowl. This 4MP camera takes pretty damn good pics actually. :)

The pic of the deformity on the small leaves looks like nothing more than physical damage.
I see that on that clone, you have exposed the hollow core of the main stem- get that sealed up right away. It's very dangerous to expose to the possibility of disease.
I also see signs that your plant would like some more light or less water.
And it's too deep in its pot. Cut the rim down to no more than an inch above the soil surface.
There's some weird wrinkling going on; please tell us about your soil- type and pH.

Well the soil is Fox farm, and the water PH that i used was about 6.0. I dont have a soil reading of the PH yet, will get that and post it. The clone is under a 400watt MH, and the temps and humidity are perfect. 75 degrees, and about 60% humidity.

Oh! You're a bit on the low side, so adjust your nute solution up to about 7 for the next couple waterings and see if you get some improvement. That wrinkle effect could very well be low pH.

Thanks stinky, I will do that. The water I have strait from the faucet is about 7.0, and is about 200 PPM with out nutes. So with the nutes I will be right at 400PPM, and at 7.0 PH. I will try this for the next couple of weeks, and post pics as things progress. I have just been using plain water with out any nutes so far, due to the soil having some already. But now that its taking them in I will start using the nutes I have with the next watering. Hey stinky, does this OG Kush plant resemble your in any way? Also what is the best way to seal that open stem? I have always just left it like that and had no issues, but I dont want top start having issue now so.... :)

I use bulldog binder clips to seal stems.
Your pH in soil is far more important than you ppm; you need to pick up some liquid indicator and get your nutes and soil to about 6.7 +- .2
That looks nothing like mine; as I said, mine's the old-ass cut and looks weird as shit. Yours is a more recent hybrid- you said with something purple-

I put a rivet in my core then a twist tie around it, and two weeks later, it's worked PERFECT!
Hopefully it doesnt break down and hurt my girl, but it's worth the experiment I guess~

I have some of those clips at home, I will put one on when I get back. Yeah the grower i got it form said it is prolly crossed with a purple strain due to the purple pods and leaves in flowering. The leaves dont have that hybrid vigor though, like most hybrids i have grown out. Notice how they kinda droop towards the tips. And Im not sure if this could be to much water since they were droopier before I watered them 1 day prior to this pic being taken. I will let them drink ALL of the water before re watering though. Only time will tell. I will continue to post pics as things progress. Thanks again for all the help! laterz..

I use caulking to seal stems - a little dab'll do ya and it seems to work well.

I use nail polish to seal the cut stems of my rose bushes and blackberries against cane-borers.

Caulk.... really? thats a new one! Good idea man, what gave you the idea to first try this, I would have been afraid that i was going to hurt my plant. lol

Well things are looking really good now. Hey stinky got that bull clip on the main stem sealing the hole that was exposed. Will post pics soon, thanks for all the advice and help!!! laterz..

To start it off, i need to start a new thread in the growing section... now dont I. :)

Just wanted to post some updated pics. i took some before watering and some after. Also did some bending to cause some additional side branching. When the main growth inhibitors of each branch are bent towards the ground, it causes temporary side growth spurts in the side branches. See the deep green color, and that is just from the foxfarm soil. I have watered with the foxfarm big grow formula, and 6-8 PH'd water. 280 PPM, just for the hell for it.
