U.S. media curtail Iraq war coverage: study
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. media reporting of the war in Iraq fell sharply in the second quarter of 2007, largely due to a drop in coverage of the Washington-based policy debate, a study released Monday said.
Taken together, the war's three major story lines -- the U.S. policy debate, events in Iraq and their impact on the U.S. homefront -- slipped roughly a third, to 15 percent of an index of total news coverage, down from 22 percent in the first three months of the year.
The study by the Project for Excellence in Journalism examined 18,010 stories that appeared between April 1 and June 29. Its "News Coverage Index" encompasses 48 outlets, including newspapers, radio, online, cable and network television.
The project is a research group studying and evaluating press performance. It describes itself as nonpartisan, nonideological and nonpolitical. The index is designed as an audit of a broad cross-section of U.S. news media.

Well it seems that the major news organisations who had a hand in promoting the war are maybe feeling guilty for the mess that has ensued.

Maybe a crackdown on bad news by the administration by limiting news out of Iraq, only the good news allowed, censorship.

Well maybe that's because thats 95% of what is going on in Iraq. How do you spin 4,000+++ American deaths, and countless Iraqi deaths into a positive? Uhhhh, maybe we'll get some oil out of the deal. Blood for oil, could it be any clearer. Knowing you, or at least your posts, I'm sure you watch the Military channel 24-7. Pay attention to the soldiers diarys programs. You might see the real deal. The only thing the shiites and sunnis hate worse than each other are the US troops. The Iraqi fighting right next to you might, on his day off, be shooting at you or making up an IED, yeah, lots of positive stuff coming out of Iraq, NOT.

Perhaps part of the problem is the inordinate amount of attention given the early '08 Presidential race.
"Clusterfuck to the White House" is very apt, thanks to the Daily Show

What is interesting to me is that some of the high-profile Dems are now saying that the surge they opposed is now working. Hillary, Sen Armed Services Chairman Levin, Brookings Institution scholars Pollack and what's-his-name. But they still want to pull out, at least the pres. nomination candidates do.
How many coaches have huddled with their teams and inspired them, telling them that yes, things look terribly grim, but that victory is there for the seizing?
The Big Dems today seem to be saying, "Yes, the surge is working, but if we try very hard, we can still lose this war."
