First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics

Hello all. After reading everyones posts for a week or so I finally decided to post some pics of my plants. These plants are from bagseed and are about 5 1/2 weeks old right now. I have 4 plants this old right now but only have pics of the 2 for right now. Like I said they are from random bags i've had over the last few months. Mainly becuase i didnt want to shell out the money for good seeds and mess everything up on the first try. These plants were started under 24/0 light under 2-48" flouo's with cool white bulbs. Thats it. They have been getting a standard garden fert once a week under measured so not to over fert. The last 3 days i have cut the light to 20/4 and tonight switched it to 16/8 with hopes of starting flowering soon. I am pretty sure these are standard Indica's but would love someone to either confirm that or correct me. Also I have included one close up pic of what i think is a preflower. Please let me know if that is correct and if it is too early to tell sex yet.

You should have had them on 18/6 the whole time. And generally speaking commercial weed is more sativa.

In answer to your sexing question, I would bank on that being a female (well i'd put £10 on it anyway :)) Mine looked exactly the same and they were all female preflowers.

Now i'm no expert on this (or anything else when I think about it :jointsmile:), but I think its a regular indica, due to the broad leaf structure. I believe sativa's have a more narrow thin leaf, but I could be wrong on that one.

Ditch the aluminium foil BTW, you'd be better with flat white paint.

Hey Mjdragon. I hope your right about the sex. I have 4 plants going now so i am hopeing to get at least 2 females. I'll get to the hardware store and get some white paint but just figured the foils gotta at least be helping a little bit.

like most of the people here, im no expert, hell, im not even in kindergarten, but it was my understanding that fems had long thin preflowers, and males had groupings of short stubby preflowers.
but then again, i dont know for sure
and i dont know what hes talkin about, my grow area is lined with tinfoil and mine are doing just fine as far as i know

they look really nice and healthy well done,they look like an indica to me or a cross indica-sativa the leaf blades are to wide to be sativa

Hey Thanks guys for checking out the pics and for the advice. I'm with ya on the foil thing. I read that it causes hot spots but as long as you got a fan blowing through there it shouldnt be a problem. Starting flowering ttommorow. Hooray!!! More pics coming in a few days.

This is week 6 for my four plants and i have cut the light back tonight to 12/12. Got some good pics of all the plants for ya. Here is my biggest plant it is about 14 inches tall right now.

Plant 2 isnt as lush as plant one and is 10 inches tall. I think the lack of size may be the fact thats it's root bound in that small cup but i dont wanna waste the effort now transplanting it. I'm just gonna sex it and if its a female then i'll get a bigger pot.

PLant number 3 looks nothing like the other 3 and i assume it is an indica sativa mix. Its rather short about 8 inches and has a wider wing span on its bottom fan leaves. Anyone know what it is?

Plant 4 is a stout little thing but is only 6 inches tall. It was in a quart milk jug right before i transplanted it and snapped this pic. Hence the claw like leaves. At least thats what i think. Though short it is very dense with lots of potential bud sites.

Lastly here are 2 pics of the 6 plants i started 2 weeks ago. Same veg as the first 4. 24/0 with 1-48" Fluro with cool whites. I have an experiment i'm gonna try on one of them tommorow. More on that too come.

Looks like a female, but I'd look for more/longer pistils to be sure, probably coupla days or so.

Quick update. Finally was able to get some 4' warm white tubes for my shop lights. Had to goto 3 different stores to get them. Gonna swap one into each of my 2 shop lights tonight. Today is day 2 of flowering and i am hoping to see some little hairs soon. I bought a 10x loupe to help me see better but its totally worthless so I ordered a 30x one. New pics in a few days.

Well today is the start of week 7 for my first 4 plants and week 3 for the other 6. The first 4 plants have been in a week of 12/12 now and I am pretty sure plants 1 and 4 are males. I freaked last night when i saw the balls and posted pics in the grow lounge forum. Several members confirmed them to be males so tonight i will take care of them. They were my favorite 2 plants too. bummer :( Its ironic because the only child i have i hoped would be male and wasnt(still love her anyway) but i wished for female plants and got males. Karmas a bitch. I'm gonna go do some chopping tonight and rearrange my grow space and get some pics.

What kind of lights are you using?? 2 48" floro's??? You need HID

Just 2 dual bulb 48' shoplights each with a cool and a warm bulb. I have a dual cfl with reflector coming in soon. Wish i had the room for and could afford better lights but my grow space is not suitable for anything other than what i have. More pics in a few hours.

Well here are the pics from the execution I held tonight. Though not chopped yet they've been getting chewed on for a few hours now. Bring on the carnage! More pics of my other plants in a bit.

With the demise of my favorite 2 plants tonight I have decided to take the other 6-3week old plants i have and put them under 12/12 tonight. I know its early but I have read several different things on here that say its ok and its not. I need females! Dammit. First 2 pics are of my 6 young plants ready to enter 12/12. They are looking pretty good except the one in the cup is lagging cause i accidently knocked the cup over 2 weeks ago.

Plant 2 is still really lanky and probably should have been topped and transplanted by now but I am just gonna wait till it shows sex.

Plant 3 the more sativa hybrid looking plant is really loving the extra space in the closet now thanks to the death of "her" brothers. Last pic is a close up of its pre flowers. Any thoughts people?

if you plan on flowering those guys you are going to need alot more light... The benchmark is 50 watts per square foot of grow area. You have maybe 80 watt? Look for a bunch of those 42w 2900k CFLs. Those work graet for flowering.
Get about 6 and thats a 250w CFL. They have y adapters so u can put 2 in one ballast and they sell cheap socket ballast at home depot. The more light... the bigger the buds..

some people may argue with me on this one but I am not a fan of switching the light cycle of plants throughout the grow from 24/0 to 18/6, etc etc....like you did. messing with the light cycle can induce hermies. next time do 18/6 and when you're ready to switch to 12/12 give them 36hours of total darkness and then go 12/12

This is only a problem during flowering... you can switch it all you want in veg. And its better for the root system to have a night period so 18/6 is better.

Hey Earthy and Bree. Thanks for the replys. I currently have a double cfl w/ reflector coming and will head to wally world or Lowes soon to get a couple more y adapters. Thanks for the advice. I need girls first though so I can get some buds. Kinda explains my lack of motivation to get more lights. As far as the cats, they dont have access to my grow room or my stash. I know cats like plants in general and figured y not let him try a bit before I cut the males down. I mean hell i put 7 weeks into them someone might as well get something out of them. Hopefully I see some female pubs tonight. Finger crossed.

Hey Fire thanks for the response. I think earthy is right about the light cycle not mattering in veg but I didnt realize that the roots need dark so next grow I will take that into account. I havent seen a hermie yet just regular males.

Well lights came on in the grow room a few hours ago and I just poked my head in to check on them and think Plant 2 might be a male. :( Not 100% sure so i'm gonna give it another day just to be safe. For some good news i just ordered 10 papaya seeds from Nirvana seeds. Cant wait to start grow #2.

Today is midweek 7 total and mid 2nd week flowering and finally got all 4 flowered. Plant 1 and 4 were killed off a few days ago and tonight plant 2 was killed as it ended up having balls. :( But plant 3 the wide ass sativa looking one showed "Her" pubes today!!!! :) I got a pic of her and a few up close pics for you all. So out of the first 4 plants I got 3 males 1 female. Thats ok though didnt really want to grow out to many of the bagseed plants anyway since I have some papaya seeds in the mail! More pics of all the plants on wednesday. Since it turned female and is the only survivor of the first wave of plants I have decided to name her Candice. Picked that name cause i had a huge thing for Candice Cameron from full house back in the day. lame huh. Hang loose.

Just a quick update. I finally got my dual cfl's w reflector. I put 2 warm bulbs in it and am gonna stick it in the grow room tonight for my female. Can anyone tell me if this would be a good light for the price?

Yeah thats pretty cool.. it isnt THAT strong but its better than ur average CFL... IT puts out 5k llumens... thats pretty good... I would look for HPS though if ur serious about growin.

Just another quick update. My small fungus gnat problem has escalated a little bit so tonight I sprayed them down with soapy water and covered the soil with sand. Dont really wanna use any pesticides unless absolutely needed. More pics to come tommorow.

I finally got motivated tonight and decided to figure out my square footage in the closet i am using. Its just 2 - 2 bulb shop lights leaned from the floor onto a ledge 32" tall. They are on like a 30 degree angle measured length wise across the floor is 38". The width of the 2 shop lights plus the reflector that closes it in is 16".

So if ya figure 38" long x 32" tall X 16" wide i came up with 11.33 cubic feet. Then that number started looking really big to me and i thought about it and finally figured out that i didnt take into account the 30 degree light slope. 11.33 cu ft is the total footage of a square box that size not a triangular one. So i sketched out a pic of it(when i was in school i never figured drafting class would come in handy but i must say i was wrong) and I figure that i have at least 1/2 less cu ft because of the angle of the light. Then i came up with 5.25 cu ft that sounds alot better to me. If the above quote is correct then I should need 280 watts to reach the bench mark. Right now i have 4 - 4 foot fluor tubes at 40 watts each and a dual cfl with reflector with 2 - 25 watt bulbs for a total of 210 watts. So i am about 70 short. I am gonna try to get one more dual cfl and finish the crop with that and see what my yield is. Now that you can understand what i am growing in i'm sure you can understand why i have no room for lights. Also this setup is pretty stealthy which i like. If my calculations arent correct feel free to correct me please.

I recently read a thread titled something to the effect of "$18 First grow good results" so I had to check it out. The dude started out at that total but as the weeks went on 18 bucks turned into over 500 or something like that. This made me decided to keep a tally on my total expenses for this grow. Due to my lack of grow space and lack of funds i am trying to keep this grow as cheap as possible but adequate enough to get decent results. I know alot of people are gonna say i need way more lighting but i just cant do that right now. I am gonna get another dual cfl soon but that will probably be it. I'll finish this grow with that setup then evaluate the situation depending on the yield. I basically

Well the start of week 9 is finally here. I cant wait to see the buds develop on candices hot ass. lol. I'll start ya off with a few pics of the new seeds i got in the mail today from Nirvana Seeds. 10 Papaya and i got 5 free Haze x Skunk 1. Is anyone familar with that strain? I'm gonna hold off a bit on germing them basically because of lack of space and figure i better make damn sure with these bagseed plants that i know what i'm doing. Anyways, i placed my order on August 29th and paid with a credit card and received them today. It took less then a week. The seeds are alot smaller then i expected them to be. The bagseed i am growing now, its seeds were twice as big. Anyways total for the 15 seeds cost me $30.

Next are some pics of Candice. She seems to be happy as can be but i didnt get to fert her yesturday because i am letting her dry up a bit to get rid of fungus gnats. Not sure i am gonna do it tonight or wait another day. She loves that new dual cfl setup that i have pointed right at her mid section. Here are some pics of her pubes 2 weeks into 12/12. Shes got about 6-10 sets of pistils showing right now.

Heres my 2nd crop that is a total of 4 weeks old today and 1 week in 12/12. No signs of preflowers yet but i havent really checked them well. I figure its gonna take at least another week for them to show. Then after I sex these 6 and kill the males i probably will germ my new seeds since i'll have extra space. I've starting transplanting these plants slowly one by one over the last few days.

I stopped at Wally World today and hopefully got the last few supplys that i will need but i doubt it.
