Does Marijuana take away all of your pain?

Are you able to relieve yourself of all your pain by smoking marijuana, or is there some pain that is just resistant to it? For me, I have given up, at least on the strains I have right now. Know this about me, while I judge noone else for their choices, for me, I am only using for pain relief. I have no desire to socially use marijuana, so "getting high" is something I am not looking for. I was given a mix of Skunk and Afgoo, the dispensary gal suggested it after talking about my pain with me. It doesn't work, not like I can afford to go trying all kinds at this point in time, so I am kinda stuck right now.

I am dealing with a bad hip, my doctor has scheduled a CT scan of my hip, so a firm diagnosis is still pending, I fell and landed square on that hip about 6 months ago, they have x-rayed and no breaks, just arthritis. It's not arthritis pain, it's different. Ok, enough of that, I am just wondering if it's me, or do others have pain marijuana doesn't help. Thanks.

I go from negative forty-five percent to one-hundred and fifty percent because (half of) half of my body has a bliss-ful sensation where the injury from the second major accident is.

I think when it comes to injuries that are more physical, it doesn't relieve it as much as when it comes to other types of pain, like the kind you get during chemotherapy. Marijuana was the only thing that kept me from feeling like complete shit.

But it's not bad for physical pain as well, it reliefs it, but doesn't take it all the way. I had a procedure that cut me from the bottom of my chest, all the way down to my bottom abdominals. I also had a biopsy recently, and while that isn't as bad as my other procedures, I have some nerve damage from the procedure, so the pain I feel now is an annoyance. But I smoke marijuana before I work out, so I don't feel it as much. Otherwise there's no way I could.

There's differences not only between strains, but also in how the plant is raised and matured. As far as I know, if the plant is allowed to ripen longer, which tends to be longer than the typical grower would like to wait, then the plant should have more narcotic, pain-relieving properties. Although I don't know about this from experience, so others will know more about this. But basically, if the resin crystals on the bud are amber or red for the most part, it may provide more pain-relieving qualities.

I have soft-tissue and nerve damage throughout my spine. I've finally decided to quit smoking weed completely, and for good. I've said that before, but I've been off 3 weeks already and seldome even think about it. The reason for this, oddly enough, is that it harshly aggrivates my pain. It used to be the most amazing analgesic, now it makes everything hurt 3x worse and spread all over. Weired eh?

Can I ask you a question? While my nerve pain is not related to my back, but to the left area of my rib. Recently I started working-out again, and while the pain has dulled, it seemed to have spread to my lower back at times. Sometimes I feel a shooting pain on the lower left side of my back. What causes nerve pain to spread?

Now I really feel broken! I'm only guessing here as all I have to go on is how I feel, but it feels like bone pain to me. It's just relentless, no position helps it, no rest helps it, it just keeps hammering me. Marijuana was like my last hope. Before I had my knee replaced, my knee was bone on bone, but that pain pretty much stayed within my knee, radiating a bit up and down, but still pretty localized, this hip pain is from my waist to my toes, just killing me, sure wish the marijuana had helped.

I don't use marijuana for pain, but you should give O.G. Kush a try. I know everytime i smoke the O.G. it just puts me down. My body kinda goes numb and i just have to sit for a while before being able to stand up haha. Maybe this strain will help with the pain more so than the ones the girl at the club gave you!

your damn right. when the pain of living becomes so great, i smoke the reefer and all my troubles go away. lol But seriously folks, it is a healing herb, it has cured many a headache and cold for me. It also is a great pain killer when you have aches.

So you're saying marijuana hasn't helped? It is an anti-inflammatory, it should help massively for 99% of people, excluding the freaks like myself lol.
I know you say it's "different" from arthritic pain, but honestly I think arthritis really is the key. It can be a painful condition after all, and triggered by sudden injury. The reason you feel it's "bone pain" is because your knee replacement, and the years of rubbing bone on tone, has stongly irritated and damaged the tendons (that attach your bone to muscle). Tendon pain feels exacly like you hurt the bone, hence why shin-splints are such hell.

I'm sorry you have to deal with all that pain, but I guarantee you it is due to inflammation. I can only recommend the following lifestyle changes to keep your inflammation down:

1. Eat limited amounts of meat, but don't cut it out altogether, you need the protein. It's better to eat lean meats like chicken and fish (especially fish).

2. Eat oatmeal, or any kinds of oats, they reduce inflammation.

3. Ice the affected area as needed, and do so till the tissue feels totally frozen and numb. Once it reaches this stage though, immediately take off the ice, as icing it too long can cause a hyper-inflammatory effect shortly after. Apply heat right after the icing.

4. Painkillers like acetaminophen and aspirin don't reduce inflammation, they only block pain receptors. You want to take ibeprophen, and I'd recommend celebrex for a prescription anti-inflammatory.

5. Massage the sore joints frequently, if only to decensitize the nerves.

6. Try not to eat too many wheat or potatoe based carbs. Focus more on oats, rice, and citric fruits.

In this case, it's really just a matter of muscle tension spreading. In your core muscles you have a muscle "belt" that wraps around your body from your top rib to your pelvic bone. The rib pain, even if it's a top rib, can send pain shooting low enough that the muscles in this area of the belt tenses up and pulls the muscles around to your back. Eventually this can cause enough back tension to pull the spine slighty, and slightly is enough to press on nerves.

For one, you want to strengthen these core muscles. A great way to do this is leg lifts, where you lie on your back, put your legs together, and lift them way up, then down just an inch above the floor, and repeat. These can be a pretty intense workout on your core abbs if you're not used to it, so start with only 5 or 6 reps the first time and see how you feel. If this is too intense, start by lifting just one leg at a time.

You also want to alleviate the muscle tension of course. There's a great muscle relaxant called cyclobenzaprine, commonly marketed as "Flexeril". It'll make you extremely tired, so it's best to take it before bed. You'll get a great sleep and it'll relax your muscles at night which will help during the day. It's by prescription only.

Also important is some tension relieving excercises. Yoga can be great for this, but doing a full class might also aggrivate your back and rib. I personally just pick a few excercises. I suggest you learn the cow/cat stretch, downward dog, and sun salutations.
It's also good to sit on the floor (or a mat), put your right leg flat and your left leg over the right, the put your right elbow on your left leg and twist to the left (then do the other side). You might have done this in highschool gym class actually. The idea is to twist the spine both ways like you're ringing out a wet towel. This will losen up the muscles and tendons, and help lubricate the vertebrae.

Take hot baths, they're so great for relaxing every muscle in your body at once.

And finally, sleep with a pillow under your legs or between them, though it might take some getting used to. If you have a spring mattress, get a new one (foams are good), because spring's are awful on your body. Don't get a bed that's excessively soft, or rock hard, somewhere in the middle and most importantly one that feels comfortable to you.

It works wonders for my condition (Boils), it doesnt take all the pain away like vicodin does, but it takes my mind off of it while taking about half the pain away while being alot safer and giving me a slight buzz.....MJ gets my vote friend:thumbsup:

Oh it definitely helps. I don't think I could tolerate this much pain, and exercise 2/3 to my capacity with it.

If it can activate one of the most numerous receptors in the nervous system, most pain (physical or mental) should be affected, if not healed, as long as it's Sativa. Indica will only activate the ones in your immune system.

I have Fibromyalgia and IBS, I can tell you, it helps with 75% of my pain, so as long as I'm only feeling a bit of pain, I can do great. I love it.

just make brownies and eat alot of them then u wont feel anything

I learned a rather interesting fact doing some research a while ago; apparently cannabinoids and opiates potentiate each other's analgesic effects.

I sometimes get migraines. If sometimes I smoke with a migraine it will get worse. Sometimes bud intensifies my headaches also.

Make sure you're smoking the right strain for a headache, and not too much weed. Usually i notice smoking a lot of certain sativas gives me a headache.

Basically, because a lot of nerves are connected whether because they branch off from one another or they make connections at other points. It is know as referred pain. Again this is a really basic explanation and it is more complicated than that but without knowing exactly where you are hurting, this is the probably best explanation for your problems, not because of muscle tension.

Actually, aspirin is an anti-inflammatory drug, the first one in fact. Tylenol (acetaminophen, APAP, paracetamol) has very little if any anti-inflammtory properties though.

I have a back promblem that only meds can help, smoking weed has never taken away

My neck is curved in the opposite direction normal. Its not straight, its actually slightly curved in the opposite direction that its supposed to be. My lower back also doesnt curve properly, although the rest of my spine is just fine.

My achilles tendons are too short, and I have to do regular exercises in order to stretch them so that eventually they wont be a problem anymore. They cause alot of problems with me and my walking, which causes shin splints during XC and Track, and water under my knee alot just in general.

My pelvic bone is the cause of all this, it sits higher on the left side then the right, and has thrown plenty of things out of line.

Everything together means that I am usually either in pain in my neck, lower back, headaches, or feeling the pain of severe shin splints if its running season.

Marijuana helps me remove about 80% of the pain. I still know there is pain there, but I dont really feel it persay, and I am ok and fine while I am high.

Granted, I started smoking as a recreational user, and found that it worked wonders for my pain, and kept with it for both reasons after that.

physically not always...but mentally its helps me to be an overall happier person and more excited about life...i was born club footed for those of you who know what that is...and i have severe pain in my feet on a regular basis, and doctors have all but guaranteed ill develop arthritis in both my feet as early as 30 years old so im pretty positive depending on the state in which ill live i can get a med card at that time. Because of all the pain medicines ive used the only thing thatll help me get through a whole soccer game without a little bit of pain is my good old friend maryjane...

You know, cannabis helps all this stuff, but, we don't ever see threads like, "Marijuana is really extending my cell-longetivity!!!"

I have survived 2 bouts of cancer, 2 strokes, and a heart attack. Yes it has taken away all my pain when nothing else would. I also like the idea of using natural medicine and not manufactured medication that has other issues associated with it, and I'm a nurse.

yeah, I have terrible back pain which comes from a really bad car accident when I was a teeneager, the discs between my vertebrae are very thin now from the damage,sometimes it even hurts to walk or sit down for any period of time. Smoking weed helps out a ton,I hate using RX drugs because they dont really work for me,my body has a high tolerance to them. but after a few hits of the good ole green I usually feel pretty good pain wise and dont notice it at all,by the time the first bowl is gone there is no pain felt.

I broke 3 vertibrea a couple of years back, but didnt realise - i went to the docs and nothing was said to me about anything being broken. So, i carried on working as usual and the pain got worse and worse. I eventually got told i had broken them, but by the time i had it was already too late. Bloody joke that was.

Anyway, since then my backs abit jippy - it can be fine for weeks or even months and then out of the blue i'll be in agony, hardly able to move.

I find that weed blocks the pain, well, not so much gets rid of it, but i dont think about it and i can carry on as normal. Because it happens somewhat regular im used to it, and my pain threshold is sky high now.

Without weed though it really would be unbearable ALL the time - i wouldnt even be able to drive.

I remember one morning waking up and i couldnt get out of bed for half hour, tried to put some socks on and just couldnt.
