I would say N deficiency however I am not experienced enough to give an opinion.
This post might help, I have found it very usefull.

I went through the same problem more than once...
I'm not sure if its safe to give this seedling any nutes at the moment! I think he's too young for them.
shit i've seen worse ones survive ...don't worry about it homie!
the yellowing of the cotyledons as fresh adult style leaves appear is normal.
That soil looks not great- you'll want something better on teh first re-pot.
Don't feed until then either.
There's a seedling survival guide in my sig.
Here's some fresh pics of the seedling today. It seems to have some brownish growth on the leaves. Its kinda wierd is this normal as well? The last pic is a pic of the soil i used, is this not good for seedlings.
Congratulations, you seem to have one of those fun strains that produces purple pigment, and can easily be coaxed into going purple near harvest with nice cool night temps!
Wow i didnt know papaya produced a purple pigment?! Hope shes a girl she'll make an awesome mother. This is so sweet!!! It's gonna be awesome having a grow full of purple papaya!
dude this is what my seedling is starting to do. However I was told mine would probably end up purple. The bad thing is I have no idea what strain mine is. (long story not my fault lol) Any how I was worried about mine because I had several problems go wrong on me including a plant dying to overwatering and when I saw this I paniced but was later told be a couple of experienced people around here not to worry that it is normal.
So congrats dude. I am also hoping for a lady. Of course we all are lol.
I've never had a 'purple' plant, but if my seedlings looked like that, I would suspect a problem ... that doesn't look healthy to me ... :smokin:
I can agree i was worried! I have an durban poison x skunk #1 seedling that looks totally different he's only 3 days old and looks healthier than the 2 week old papaya!Quote:

what soil is that seedling in?
it looks overwatered or its sensitive to ferts, nitrogen (the claw) & the brownish areas may be burn starting
if its in miracle grow seedling soil? that has miracle grow fertilizer in it which most seedlings dont like
I'm with reaper and Ganja....just doesn't look good. I'll leave to the real soil growers to decide what to do. :)
yeah i am in fact using the Miracle grow seedling soil. I dont think the levels of ferts in there are high enough to really harm the seedling but what do i know im a total nooblet!
The only real reason i say this though is because the other seedling seems to be doing absolutely fine in it. I think its more because i used the bottome of a powerade bottle as a pot for the seedling and that could be why i think?!
Anyway though here's a pic of the nute content of the miracle grow seedling starter soil.
that Miracle-Gro soil is OK ... the nute levels there, are almost 'trace' amounts ... but, don't add any nutrients to it for awhile ... usually, those type 'nute-added time-release' soils are good for the first two months, nitrogen-wise ... over-watering or poor drainage will also produce yellowing, and fungi-looking leaves, I know, I killed hundreds with Pythium Wilt :D ... I'm as guilty of 'over-love' as anyone ... now, I tend to ignore them, and they do much better ... kinda like my marriages, when I was on the road for a month at a time, I was a great husband ... but, then, I'd come home, and screw it all up :D ... (Weedhound, check with stinky for my e-mail address, she MIGHT have it)
Im not disagreeing with you about the soil I havent tested it.Quote:
that Miracle-Gro soil is OK
Ive seen nothing but trouble with MG soils and seedlings
a seedling thats "unhealthy... with smaller roots".... can easily be burnt even with trace amounts....given the necrotic areas now beginning to show I wouldnt rule out the soil yet
I see that the nitrogen content on the label , isnt "urea orgainc based" which is less likely to burn" its ammonical & nitrate which does burn plants.
Miracle Grow has just re-formulated thier Seedling Soil Mix within the past month , it now contains some of the Urea "organic type" nitrogen (0.10% urea nitrogen organic non burning type) the ammonical type nitrogen they coat for a slow release & less burn
maybe they old formula was burning too many seedlings, or why the change adding Organic non burning nitrogen
just my 2 cents:)
Some of my MTF seedlings showed that purple leaf thing under the same conditions that other plants and strains in that crop did not, and they grew out of it, and a couple ended up showing purple colors near harvest.
...always make your own soil mix... sheesh
but those plants look fine, let them grow on... do you foliar feed... use diluted nutes... i don't know which way you want to grow it, it is your plant.
congrats on the purple pheno

i wouldn't think that would be appropriate for a soil for flowering, you could definately clone in peat moss, and perlite. I would see what kind of premix soil you can get or find a great recipe online... i only know of outdoor recipes
No, peat moss and perlite isn't a good grow mix. Impossibly acidic.
Almost anytime you see purpling on a plant whose phenotype isn't noted for the color, it's a phosphorus deficiency. Now, that can be exacerbated by cold temps, but it's still a symptom of low P uptake. More P or warmer temps will fix it, unless you just want the purple bits.
peat moss= pH 4-5= not good.
That seedling will survive. Hit it on the next repot with the soil mix in the link in my siggy. Composted humus FTW!!! Really hard to screw up.
For cloning, don't mess around with soilless/soil/perlite/ whatever, use those composted bark plugs. They make life SO much easier.
Ok here's a few new pics of the new growth after a repot. The plant doesnt seem to have sustained any shock because it was repotted like 3 days ago and it seems to still be growing fine. The new growth looks good.
Stinky i didnt get a chance to get that soil in your siggy since i was just anxious to get this plant repotted. So i had to use some schultz potting soil. I looked up that soil though and there's no place around me that sales that product. Anyway though if there is another soil you recommend i'd like to pick that up, unless there's a web site i can order the agway soil from.
My C99 just arrived from joey weed so i'll be putting 2 in soil and the rest in my drip system.
