weeds not what it used to be anymore...

its been a while since ive posted... i find that this site makes me crave pot much more(with all the cute lil pics of bud) This is a bad thing cuz im trying to quit. I used 2 think weed was great... it made me happy, non-stressed, relaxed, socialable, w.e ... but now i get completely different effects. i get stressed out (cuz im thinking too hard), aggressive, non sociable, akward , im a big pussy when high, and im a nervous wreck when stoned. but the main things r that i get really aggressive/nasty and i can b a huge know it all wen high. You prob ask why dont i quit then? cuz im addicted... i admit it.
Im also worried about the long term effects, like cancer, my mom died of cancer so im scared about it being in my jeans. (plus ive got bad athsma)
but honestly i dont even know y i smoke weed anymore, i dont like the effects, i need to focus in school this year, and im worried about my health (i dont want to give in to the gate way effects as well)
But it would help if everybody posted on the topic, i need to talk about it.
Oh, i almost forgot, this site makes me crave, but its a really good talk site, i wish it wasnt like100% focused around weed

I dont think there is anyone in the world who has died from smoking pot, and you arent going to be the first. I understand that you are addicted and it is going to be hard to quit but the things you mentioned would bother me enough to quit. I quit like 3 weeks ago and once you get past the 2 week mark it seems alot easier and the cravings arent as dramatic as they were before.

I will tell you about someone i know.
My friends dad has been smoking since he was 16, now he is 53 and still kicking. He smokes everyday and he smokes the good shit(well the best he can get)and his health amazes me. He has told me all the time that it is ok to smoke weed just dont revolve your life around it. I go by that when i would smoke and it makes me feel better about it.

dude that sucks... my mom had ovarian... did your mom do the whole chemo thing too? surprisingly, the cancer itself doesnt make people as sick as the treatment... it sucks especially when it doesnt get rid of the cancer because then they're sick for 2 years before they die.... i feel for you dude....

I think its chill that u want to discuss that. Most of my friends have quit at one point and i have as well but i always go back to it. Whenever im on a break from bud though i always think about the great sessions i had with all of my friends. During school this past year i started blazing every day, i would blaze right after school with one of my good friends every day, i stopped doing my homework cuz i just got soo lazy. This upcoming year though im thinking about taking a huge break or i may just do all my homework and then go blaze. As far as i see the health issue, if you dont smoke cigs you should be fine.

You could always try the herbal substitute, at least it's something to smoke. Avoid cigarettes if you can and try to not get tobacco in the herbal substitutes.

You sound like you are in high school, and it is important for younger kids to remember that their brains are still developing, so overuse of any substance should be avoided.
Smoking anything if you have asthma is not a good idea. The fact that you are experiencing bad effects reinforces that you are doing the right thing by trying to quit. Your body is telling you to stop. When I quit drinking many years ago after many years of hard use, it was because of the same kind of personality changes you named. Everybody's chemistry is a little different, and you can't ignore the fact that marijuana no longer works for you. Though most don't consider marijuana addictive, for you it sure feels that way, since the habit is so strong and the effects are so unpleasant. But everybody is different. Alcohol ended up being poison to me, but many people are able to enjoy it without any negative effects, and conversely, for many of us, marijuana has nothing but benefits. I am glad you are looking at the effects on you and taking control before it brings more harm.
It may not be this way forever- you might just need an extended break, but for now, you know you need to quit. It is hard because you have developed the habit, and all habits are difficult to break. This site is a fun place for you to connect, but while you are trying to quit, you might need to stay away since it triggers the desire. You can come back when you feel more comfortable.It may help to tell yourself that you just need to quit for a specific length of time- a month, 6 months, etc., so that it doesn't seem like a daunting, forever thing. But start with getting through a day, then extend that to a week, etc. In 12 step programs they reward for time stayed clean, and as cheesy as it seems, it motivates one to persist through discomfort to get that 30 day poker chip! It sounds like a cliche but it really works- take it one day at a time. Start out by deciding not to smoke for one day, and stay as busy as you can so you don't obsess. It would really help if you had a buddy to do this with, so you might check out addiction sites on the internet- there must be message boards where people post about quitting drugs or alcohol- it doesn't really matter what the addiction is- the process for quitting is the same. You have the power inside of yourself- you just need to believe, and focus that power. You have a choice, and when you feel yourself weakening, remember to tap into that power. It is your god-nature within. Remember, You can do this!:thumbsup:

You were right about the high school thing. other ppl have told me as well that my brain is still developing, i just ignored them. it makes me feel like shit now, because i am going into grade 10 this year and i have smoked tons of weed in my time.
I didnt get what you meant by saying that the symptoms i have are not worth quitting for... if im aggressive , nasty and not even having fun doing something, why keep doing it?
Another thing you said gave me an idea...about the treat thing, instead of spending money on weed i could buy myself treats , like a new game or new clothes, or even spend money on activities when im bored like movies/swimming because thats usually when i give in to my addiction is when im bored.

Uh, its genes, not jeans. There is scientific research to prove that marijuana is non addictive and does not cause cancer, in fact it is often used in the treatment for cancer patients because the THC may fight cancer cells. I'm not sure why you're freaking out. I don't often see personality changes in my friends when we smoke, either. Oh, and I smoke every day and still get a 3.5.:wtf:

I'm also going through the stage where smoking is bringing out subtle anxiety and panic about my future. But yeah, like a post above said, don't revolve your life around it. I've taken to smoking once, half an hour before bed now, so I can read a good book, listen to some good music and not give into munchies. At this time, I'll be fast asleep before I start getting any anxious thoughts.

I think you misunderstood - I said that all those negative effects are the exact same things that made me quit drinking! Aggression, anger and no fun= time to quit whatever is making you feel those things. Alcohol in the beginning made me feel great, but after many years it started to have the opposite effect, just like your expeience with pot. If something hurts, stop doing, I say:thumbsup:

That is a great idea! You might want to make a list of all the cool stuff you will buy with the money you save. Everytime you feel the craving to use, just look at your list and imagine the fun you will have!

The social aspect will be hard at first, but if you provide yourself with another outlet, you will find that soon becomes more engrossing. You might try to join a club- do they have a literary magazine at your school, or something else interesting? Drama club? Martial arts? Track? It is important to find something besides a drug that is fun, and then focus on that. You are too young to narrow your world.
Go for walks at lunch to avoid the smokefests- check out the neighborhood. Explore the library :wtf: yes, books can help you escape boredom as well as any drug! Ask the librarian for a recommendation, I know it sounds geeky, but it really could help. Exercise the mind and the body, and you will be well.

Writing is great therapy. I think we would all be happier if we wrote down our thoughts, in poetry or songs or even just rants!You should keep a notebook during this time in your life; it will give you a place to vent, and will be really neat to look back on!

Keep trudging friend- you have a great deal of self-awareness for one so young! You just need to look around for something worth spending your time with during the rough high school years- and remember, the kids who were "unpopular" in high school often become the most interesting adults!

Sometimes I think what are the long term effects of my cannabis smoking too lol. I smoke heavily and I seem to be addicted a bit but I think it's all good. Just cut back. And smoking isn't necessarily healthy in it self. Cannabis has nothing to do with it, it's just the fact that smoke is going in your body. Cannabis does the complete opposite to me that you says it does for you. I dunno what your problem seems to be. Maybe you can take some valiums when you smoke. Maybe that could help even more. And you could always vaporize weed.

dude i am 21 now and haven't smoked regularlly since my senior year of HS mainly because of probation, once i got done that and tried to smoke again it made me feel exactly what you described, anxious and worried. It was really weird cause i smoked everyday in HS and never felt that way.

As far as the addiction goes you should be glad its only in your head. My friend was a heroin addict and seeing him through withdraw a couple times was a scary thing, He would be freezing cold but sweating, he wouldn't eat or sleep.
Just remember its all in your head dude, your still young, you got plenty of time to sort your life out

Yes, smoking anything is bad for your lungs....BUT if you vape, you don't get those nasty smoke particles,and the carbon dioxide and monoxide! Vaping lets the bronchodialators (or however you spell it) in cannabis work without being interfered with by smoke! It's the smoke that is doing damage, not the cannabis! My hubby is/was an asthmatic. No problems as long as he vapes! Over-doing it smoking (he does tobacco, too, the idiot!) can trigger an attack. - Granny:hippy:

smoking is bad for lungs ofcourse, but the good effects of the bronchodialators out weigh the bad effects of the smoke. and if you vape you dont even have to worry about the smoke.
