questions about growing outdoors
i have some plants growing outside in pots,2 are in a massive pot and around a metre tall with some smaller plants going in smaller plants
i've noticed my biggest plants and one of the tied down ones are now getting covered with white hairs, question is,are these pre flowers,or is it the beginning of flowering?or do plants growing outdoors need to get 12 hours darkness before they start flowering?because we aint getting 12 hours of dark here yet, will be another 6 weeks before that happens, which would mean it would be december before they finished, and i can't imagine weed growing in these parts in december
anyway, any info would be greatly appreciated
i've included some pics

questions about growing outdoors
first of all ide put each plant in there own pot and make it big pots. trash cans or buckets i fancy trashcans. moor room for the roots to grow. yes about 12hrs of lite is important because plants grow at night in the darkness. one thing you could do like i do at the end of harvest before i pick my bud a cover my plants in a box and in complete darkness and this will make the plants grow like crazy one more last time. so until you get light you could somehow put your plant into darkness for 12 hrs then bring her out so she has enouh time to get equal sun also. hope i have helped you

questions about growing outdoors
thanks man,i've never grown outdoors so don't know what to expect, there's only 1 shared pot but it's a massive pot,has about 400 litres of soil in it(and it's still not full),that's the pot with 2 weed plants and it also has pumpkins and a sunflower for cover(my garden backs onto a school),thought i might have had a problem with all those heavy feeding fast growing plants in with my weeds but it seems not, pumpkins have shallow spreading roots which make over watering or over fertilizing almost impossible
so it's not flowering i'm seeing then but pre flowers?
-
questions about growing outdoors
yes pre flowering of your pot plants over time i have always noticed that hairs will appear sometime around when your plants will begin flowering. also how cean i put little thumb nails in the post so i cean shair a photo of my monster momma
-
questions about growing outdoors
think you need 50 posts before you can upload pics, click those thumbnails and you'll get full size pics,if you don't have a manage attachments option when your posting replies you can't upload them yet, though you could always use a site like photobucket to put your pics up meantime

questions about growing outdoors
and with regards to the hairs, when i do indoor grows i always notice a couple of hairs before i start flowering,pre-flowers,but on my outdoor plants i have hairs at every node, which is why i'm wondering if they've started flowering
-
questions about growing outdoors
They look like they are growing well in that pot with the other plants. I didn't see any white hairs in your pics. Do you have any pics showing the hairs? Because you are outside, I think you are still in pre-flower. I'm in the US, but beside my Early Misty, none of my other plants have showed sex yet, but I'm sure they will very soon.
Nice setup!!!

questions about growing outdoors
thanks man
i tried to get in to take some pics of the hairs but it's hard to get to them
did manage to get a few though
-
questions about growing outdoors
yes pre flowering. usually most buds will have hairts on them but they are in pre flower
-
questions about growing outdoors
UR garden looks kick ass.
-
questions about growing outdoors
yes they appear to be preflowers, pic 1and 3 of the second set and pic 4 of the first set i think shows them. they probably showed earlier but just on one set of nodes, if they are everywhere i would guess that they are starting to flower right now. i usually refrain from guessing at these because of my inexpierience and also when trying to guess on my own preflowers i was wrong on a few of them but i still say yes. there are other considerations when growing outside other than just 12/12 plants seem to know when to do their thing even if it isnt exactly 12/12 yet. the color of the sunlight, temps.

questions about growing outdoors
thanks hydro, shame i can't make good use of the rest of it,that's only a tiny part
and thanks 2guys,that was exactly what i wanted to know, had a feeling flowering would be possible before nights were 12 hours long but wasn't sure
so how much bigger can i expect these plants in the big pot to get?don't want them becoming obvious, heh it's like spot the weed just now, wonder if anyone here can actually see them all
-
questions about growing outdoors
they will grow pretty big depending on the strain. the pot is pretty big and plants cean push them selfs out of pots it happend to me with my big one then i had to put it in a trash can. but you cean also top them to keep them from growing or pruning them. it basicly stunts the growth and the plant will be a little slower after. but every time you top it will slow down more and more. but if done rite you should get a good harvest and prevent losing buds. just not big buds. little ones kind of all over. hoped that helped
-
questions about growing outdoors
i had tied one down but as it got bigger it split with the weight and i had to wire it back together though it hasn't slowed the growth any,the soil doesn't reach tthe top of that pot,it's about 12 inches below top so those plants are way bigger than they look, the pumpkins are putting out loads of vines now and with a little training i'll cover the wall behind the pot so the weed will be in front, but it'll be pumpkin leaves poking out the top
i definately wont be moving those 2 out the big pot,it's about as big as 5 trash cans anyway
-
questions about growing outdoors
thats plenty big. and its healthy to grow plants with others because of the nutrients and others they put off. all should go well for you tho. just try what i said only if you feel comfortable with it.
-
questions about growing outdoors
nice garden btw. i cant guess at how much more they will grow, but will continue to grow for another 3 or 4 weeks then start putting on some bud weight.

so you should be all ight

questions about growing outdoors
That is a nice setup, atsar. Although I can see it now.... triple their size comes flowering. They'll probably eat up your other plants and in the end you will have yourself one huge ass harvest. Awesome grow!
-
questions about growing outdoors
well things have certainly gotten bigger since first making this post, kancha i was kinda hoping as they were vegged bigger than i usually veg that they wouldn't triple in size during flower, that would be a problem, they're still pretty well camoflagued at the moment, but wont be for much longer if they continue as they are
anyway a couple of pics of how they look now
-
questions about growing outdoors
If you don't want them to get any bigger then the only way is to force flower them right now if possible. Vegging longer will only make them monsters in the end. Maybe you can add more garden plants to help camouflaged it even more if that will help.
-
questions about growing outdoors
ah,don't see how forcing flowering is gonna be possible, the plants and pot are enormous,so couldn't put anything over them and moving the pot would be impossible too, would need a crane to shift it,i really do hope it's starting to flower now
-
questions about growing outdoors
If I want to keep them in check then I will probably trim of some branches or nodes. Or maybe trim them to the size I want when flowering season is near. Just my thought.
-
questions about growing outdoors
those fan leaves are huge, but beautifull. if you saw a huge growth spurt they are certainly going into flowering! hopefully you can pull this off, it would be terrible to have to lose them now. good luck. i saved a pic just because it was so pretty.
-
questions about growing outdoors
thanks 2 guts,i'm hoping i pull it off too,the nearest anyone can get to it without coming intomy garden is about 25-30 metres so hopefully they'll see nothing,i can see them but i'm looking for them, hopefully the pumpkin vine will grow more then i can train it into a screen i'll attach to the fence between my garden and patio, that'll hide them,i'll try and find a pic from back of garden tell me what you think
were forecast a storm here lasting the rest of the week so looks like they're gonna take a bit of a battering, hope they make it
-
questions about growing outdoors
They will continue to grow, but if no one can see you are growing weed right now, I don't think they will notice during flower either.
If you are worried about the height being a security factor, cut them back.
How much sun do they get?
Mine are stretching a bit because they are not getting enough sun hours.
But I couldn't pass up on the grow spot. ;)

How much sun do they get?
well at the moment school is on holiday so not many people around there, but they go back in 4 weeks though like i say it may not be noticable if your not looking for it,and surely the pumpkins hanging in front of my window is gonna attract attention away
the garden is south facing so they have about an hour shade in the morning and evening,no idea what time the sun comes up cos i'm sleeping but it's down before 9pm
-
questions about growing outdoors
My bad, I didn't realize the school thing. That's a different story. You are getting plenty of sun, sun will do your budz good.
-
questions about growing outdoors
yeah school is a bit of a shitter but will just need to sweat it out i guess,
from the back of my garden it looks like this, but bear in mind it's a pic, makes garden look enormous, and the plants were in shade by time pic was taken
-
questions about growing outdoors
i definitely could not see them in the pics. might make a difference with the sun though. good luck. nice little apple tree. school makes it more scary but i had the same situation once, if you were searching for them you could find them (i could see them) i placed them just right on my rooftop so that most views had a tree in the way. i was nervous but nothing ever came of it.
-
questions about growing outdoors
I also like your apple. Did you plant it? It can use a good pruning to remove vertical growth and let sun into the center of the tree.
-
questions about growing outdoors
apple tree has always been there, but it has a white like mould over it in summer so i never eat the apples, though they're said to be sweet,it's a strange garden, middle of a town centre, apple tree, brambles, mint rhubarb and all other things i take nothing to do with growing away,i even have a hedgehog that aint shy with my or my cats

questions about growing outdoors
well getting back on subject things are growing well, just had 24 hours of rain and strong winds and though it wasn't looking good in the wind, they look fine now it's gone, what don't kill them will only make them stronger, more rain and wind to come but i wont be so worried this time
got some more pics
the 1st pic is the plant i have in a small 3 gallon pot that was the donor plant for the clones in the big pot, she's turning into a nice little bush
next 2 are pics of all of them and the last pic is how i see the plants from the back of my garden
any comments/advice always welcome

i guess i'm just being paranoid huh,it's gonna take some pulling off,my 97 year old neighbour that can't get into her garden had a fall and has been taken into care, though she insists she's coming home,i sure hope so because this shit is against her fence and can't be doing with new neighbours, especially as it'd be a family, constantly in their garden no doubt
i think the pumpkin plants should be good until the end of september at least, maybe a few weeks more, the pumpkins have just started to appear and it hasn't even flowered properly yet so hopefully that'll be providing cover right up till harvest, their vines are still crawling along the fence and above the window so don't think they're quite ready for friuting, the sunflower will probably be long gone by then but i'll keep it in as long as possible after the flowers dead, there's also some poppies in there but no flowers as they seriously lack light, wanted the poppy flowers among the weed to make the weed look like a flower but it didn't work out
next years outdoor grow however will be well planned and hidden now that i know what to do

well there's 2 plants in the big pot, never topped them but there's a good 10 or 12 tops on those 2,they're about 4 foot tall at moment
there's the lst'ed donor plant in a 3 gallon pot
then there's 2 females in 4 gallon pots at the right hand side of the big pot, behind the long trough like pot with the palm and lavender in,
i've also one in a small tiny pot,it's already well budding so i reckon it was pollenated a while back, gonna keep it for seeds
so that's 6 in total then

questions about growing outdoors
well i think the problem of anyone seeing the plants should be a thing of the past soon
see the fence in the last pic i posted(few replies back),the little wooden one?tomorrow i'm going to attach an old fire guard to the full length of the top of it,should make it about 3 feet higher, then i'll train the brambles growing below it into the fire guard, brambles grow really fast and love to climb,so by time school goes back hopefully they'll be hidden, could add some more climbers they're not
