What's the best CHEAPEST lighting for flowering??
I don't have alot of money left to put into my system and they're going into flowering stage very soon...I don't have 200 dollars to spend per HPS light is there a cheaper way? Or does anyone know where i can pick up a cheap HPS? Considering the places i've called here are contractor only...:wtf: I'd appreciate your input considering this is the first grow 'round for us:thumbsup:Thanks in advance!!

First tell us what size flower room, or space its going to light. How many plants, ect.
Other wise using flos will prolly be your best bet for cheap flowering. Make sure its the red/orange/yellow side the spectrum, as this is the best for flowering.
here is a link to an example. Use the warm one listed for flowering.

Well as for a cheap HPS i've seen a couple at home depot if you have one where you live... I don't know if a 50w HPS would do you any good but they are cheap $35. Here is a link ;)

What's the best CHEAPEST lighting for flowering??
I,ve done a rubbermaid grow with 6 23watt energy saving bulbs I think these are each 100 watt output on a single plant final yield was 3.5oz dried and cured 13.5 trimmed and wet, so this will kind of give you a idea what you can get away with.
Good Luck

I don't like anything but HID lighting for flowering. Anything works fine for veg, but you need some good light for flowering or you won't get nearly the weed you could. Other than that, I would most certainly use flourescent lighting, probably the 24 watt ones that equall 100 watts of incandescant. There are a lot of advantages to flourescent, like low energy bill, and you can get the plants right next to the lights, and you won't need a whole lot of ventilation, like with HID.

You're in Oregon. If you're a patient you can join OGF and get a discount on grow supplies and access to garden geeks who will help you.
Otherwise, You can get started using a bunch of cfl's, while you save up for an HPS. I use the 26W daylight bulbs. They give the most lux for your low budget. shoot for 50W per square foot (that's real watts, not 'same as' watts).
You can get low wattage HPS (70-250W) at home dePot, but they're not as efficient as the higher wattage ones, especially the 600W which are specifically designed for horticultural use.
I recommend using the CFL's to start, then get a 600W HPS and use it all together. (if you have the electricity to run it) Eventually you might want a 400W Metal Halide to augment your spectrum too.

What's the best CHEAPEST lighting for flowering??
Watts is watts and a 70/150/250/1000 watt If you buy it at a dyi Home dump or lowers (names changed to protect the home supply copy right thing)
Buy a hps parking lot system for around 60 bucks. Tape up the dark cycle controler. Take off the plastic deflector , mount on some chain and have at it.
Remember that light is only one of the problems , heat, smell, venting all are part of the picture
Nothing smell better than blooming pot. Nothing attracts mites like pot. Nothing attracts friends (?) like free pot.
If you have friends that know you grow, you have a big problem.
The differance between a DYI store hps and a grow shop hps is the price. Ballast only last 50 to 60 years so plan ahead.

All in one. There's a total of about 6000 lumens in there now and will be pulling the plants that turned out male.So far one for sure and then there are 2-3 more that just didn't grow very big for whatever reason. So that will leave 6-7 plants total. We have 2-3 confirmed females. We are a few weeks into flowering now.Not really hoping for a whole lot off the plants, don't want to be disappointed.lol;)
Considering this is the first time for either of us for growing cannabis and doing hydro...I think they look pretty good.Nice and lush, very skunky smell. And it was just bag seeds. We weren't even sure in the beginning if they would sprout, but we had 17 out of 20. We kept the best 10 for this system. We have 4 nigerians in an ebb n flow sys coming behind these ones.Only 4 out of the 10 seeds came up,but they look pretty good so far.Anyway,I found the 70 w HPS at Lowes for 52. bucks and I just don't have the money to sink as I would like.:(

I don't know what OGF is?? Marmarkus2006 has a med card and is looking into caregiver too. I am the one that works because he is now disabled and unable to do what he used to.This also gives him a project to focus on considering he is stuck at home with the kids...and there are 6 of them ranging from 14 to 7 months. So he needs something to do to keep sane.Anyhow, thanks for the input and if you think of anything else please let me know!!

OGF is a group of patients, growers, and caregivers, who all help each other out.
If he registers you as his caregiver, you will be protected too.

Don't mess around- go for a REAL light.
Your lumens per watt is maximized with a HID light.
Get a good 600 HPS for flower, or at the MINIMUM a 400. Anything smaller is a waste of time and money for a grow of that size. You will be seriously disappointed with flouros.

This is very true. Don't take it lightly. You will be dissapointed if you don't use at least 400 watts. I suppose you could get 400 watts of red spectrum flouros, but for about the same price you could just do it right and get an HPS and the ventilation it requires. 400 watts of fluourescent light gets pretty warm too. You will need some good fans and ducts.

Yup and you won't pull NEARLY the lumens, plus fucking around with multiple fixtures... forget it. It's very energy-inefficient.
If you seriously can't affor the $150 that it costs for a decent light, have fun paying the electric bills... it might be time to consider taking advantage of the million-watter in the sky.

OK, here's where we diverge.
As a patient advocate here in Oregon, I have learned...
#1 Meds flowered with CFL's are disappointing compared to those flowered with HID, but they ROCK, when compared with no meds at all.
#2 You can get a cheap used 400 to 100W HID light for around $50 on craig's list (around here at least) if you wait for a good deal.
#3 A 200 Watt, multi CFL setup will cost about $40 if you buy all the parts new. You can start TODAY. Then you have 30 to 60 days in veg, to save up for a REALLY good HID setup.
Flowering under CFL's is not ideal, but if done properly, they can grow you some nice medicine.

You can grow good weed on CFLs but it takes a lot of care and attention to detail, which is cool with me for my hobby.

What's the best CHEAPEST lighting for flowering??
i have not found that to be the case at all i set up a side room just big enough to put a 20 gal rubber maid tub and wired well shit i'll just show u here's the pics now u tell me cfl's don't work.and as far as "but it takes a lot of care and attention to detail" not really i filled it with 10 gals of water put nutes in and off they went and iv'e noticed that the ones under the cfl's are a nice darker green as the others under the 1000 watt light hps is a lighter green the ones u see in the pics are 3 weeks old from seed so yes with the proper amount of cfl's i think u can grow damn good plants as iv'e also done tomato watermelon peppers and carrots like this and there nice a big as well i have 4/ 42 watt/150 and 2 / 24 watts as u can see in the pics i wired them up myself cost me close to 50 bucks for all the stuff and there doin damn good if u see i made a lil slider platform for the 2 24's so when the plants are small i can still get the lights close and still have the big ones over head as needed and when the plants grow i move the lower lights to the smaller plants so they get enough light hope this helps

These are the plants the day we added more coil lights and the make shift fixture my b/f rigged together.... I'll post pics of them no so you can see the difference it made. We already pulled 2 confirmed males... the rest so far seem to be females. Considering it's bagseeds i think they look awesome!! My friend, who is a hardcore toker took the clippings and dried them and smoked it.She said even though it was leaf and not flushed it was better than the budget she's been smoking...

How do I become caregiver and I don't have cancer or tumors or anything like that but I do have muscle pain and I'm just wondering how severe does it have to be before you can get a card?? I've not really looked into it much....
Am I in harms way legally speaking even if he has his card and I do not? This is very important to me as we have children.I have not been smoking for a while just in case there was a problem.I want to be able to pee clean right on the spot.I love my kids they are my life and I don't want to lose them.

Chronic pain should qualify you, but you don't need to be a patient to be protected in Oregon. If he is a patient, he can register you as his caregiver or grower, and you will be automatically protected.
Your kids will be safe once you are legal. DHS is the child welfare agency, AND they are in charge of the OMMP too, so there is NO CONFLICT.
You can get a lot more info and help from oregon green free dot com. The guest areas are free, and can help you get legal! Once you're legal you can join OGF as a member and get all kinds of benefits, including clone exchanges, advice from experienced growers, strain evaluation events, and more.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. I have one kid, and I can hardly handle it (I mean the stress and headache). Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade him in on anything. Love him to death.
For me, it would be more like I have six kids, and I need something else to keep me from going crazy occassionally.

If you just want half ass weed use half ass lights. My goal is to grow better weed then I can buy. Buying gear for the garden will save you money in weed you don't have to buy. Every thing you put into your grow you will get back 10x in personal satisfaction alone, not to mention almost free weed. What Kalvin are your CFL's?

What's the best CHEAPEST lighting for flowering??
3500 Kelvin and 6500 Kelvin for the CFL's.... then there is one 70w HPS in there too. We're getting a 250w HPS soon and that will go in there as well....if you scroll up through the thread ther are periodic pics shown as well as the lighting system. The last pics I posted are from yesterday. We aren't in this to sell, only for personal use,for medical purposes. But so far it's looking like a very decent harvest with what we have going.I have already put alot of money I really didn't have into this grow,so I think we did ok.... :) Anyhow, feel free to check out my plants and tell me what ya think...;)
-
What's the best CHEAPEST lighting for flowering??
the 6500 is perfect for veg, but if you get more cfl's for flower try to get the 2700k ones. The ones you have are a little too white, but you are running a hps that has that 2700k spectrum so you are not missing it. IMHO you should wait and buy a 430w and a air shade of some kind. The reason for this other then light is heat, 1X430W will run cooler then 2 bulbs totaling 320w I was wondering what temps you are running in there at the plant level, they should be ok now, but when you add lights. Go to a grow shop for your grow gear, you can get lots of do it your self ideas just looking at there stuff, the contractor shop is for contractors. Another question I have is the 70W in the middle of the cab.?:hippy:

What's the best CHEAPEST lighting for flowering??
All good advice except the last part.
You can grow just fine using cheaper Home DePot equipment.
Heat is afactor with multiple bulbs, but with proper venting it can be overcome.
Also (if you are handy with electrical tools), there are ways to separate the socket from the ballast, reducing the heat further.
