How does this look?
I'm doing my first ever grow and my baby is ten days old. I was just looking from some input from some more experience growers on here. heres pics of it from then till now. the large ones were taken today, the middle ones were taken 5 days ago and the littlest were taken the day it sprouted. Any input on how it looks would be great. and gnats arent a killer are they? because i have a few but i wasnt sure if they were problematic. any info on those as well would be welcome. also when sure i start using nutes? Sry i'm so new and its hard for me to determine when exactly i should be doing everything. Thanks to anyone who posts any input or info!!

What kind of light is that and how many watts does it kick out? You may want to check out a Compact Flourescent light, they're fairly cheap and you can get some decent vegetative growth off of one of those on just one plant. Hope its a girl, it sucks when you only have one plant and its a dude. My first plant ever was a male :( my, my, my! How much you learn in 10 years!
-
How does this look?
gnats are a sign of something being too moist(standing water in a plant tray?), dont use any nutes untill they get a few sets of leaves or at least for a couple of weeks.
-
How does this look?
Yea i'm using 3 cfls two 25 and one 28 actual watts. all of them are rated at 75 watts so i figured it should be good enough because i have seen people one here use 3 for like 3 plants so i put them in desklamps. and i figured out why i have too much moisture its the stupid soil i have it satys wet for days on end. i might have to transplant it with a different kind of soil if it continues to suck but i've been watering much less so i hope it helps it. THANKS for your support!

Well what soil are you using? Perhaps your plant is in too big of a pot for it's age. Remember, it doesn't have a lot of roots now, so, if you are watering a big container of soil, a lot isn't being absorbed by the plant, which could be the cause of the fungus gnats. Make sure you have the correct spectrum CFL for your stage of growth. Vegetative growth needs the cool cfls, while flowering needs the warm ones. Good luck and keep us updated.
Peace,

These are of my baby taken today. it is now 2 weeks old. i have started extending how much i water in order to reduce the moistness because i realized the crappy soil i used is a moisture retaining one so i've been mostly overwatering because the bottom of the pot is still damp. the gnats are slowly reducing. i put a piece of paper over the soil so they stop laying eggs in the soil n the babys stop popping up. Thanks for the advice on everything and I promise to have some new pics up in a few more days. KEEP THE ADVICE AND COMMENTS COMING THEY ARE VERY APPRECIATED!!!

Sooooo - are you going to do something about the poor soil or are you going to fight it the whole way?
Just wondering.

I wasnt sure. I was thinkin maybe i could just keep using this n pick something else next time, but i dont want to endanger my plant. Like i said i havent been watering nearly as much but i dont want to wait and have the soil be bad for it... Should i transplant it with a different soil or see if i can try to get a hang of this one? Keep the advice coming!!

How does this look?
OK i wanted to edit the above post but couldnt. I'm going to get a different soil becuase i opened the bag to the shitty stuff i bought and about 200 gnats came flying out at me and are now flying around my house. Can someone please help and tell me how to switch the soil with as little stress as possible for the plant? any suggestions on a soil I can run out and buy ASAP? Any help at all would be great!

To get rid of fungas gnats, try this, it works, I had the problem in the past, and it worked. Just take a tupperware container and put a drop of dish soap in it. Then fill it with water just a little bit so it makes a surface. Then simply put this in your grow room and the next day you will notice a shit load of fungus gnats and their larvae dead and gone. lol btw, your plant looks like it's coming along nicely.

How does this look?
holy crap your plant looks really good compared to my two week old one haha but i just sprouted it then planted it outside in some potting soil.... god its growing so much slower compared to yours. i dont think ill even get a harvest off of mine i just wanted to experiment and see how it worked... so far alright
-
How does this look?
thanks alot i'm glad to hear mine is doing good, but i'm sorry for yours. Its way too late in the year for an outside plant so there is very little chance of any harvest at all but at least you'll be able to somewhat get the hang of things for next year.
I'll post some more pictures of it up tomoro i just got back from vacation.:thumbsup:

How does this look?
ok here are the promised pics... My camera broke so i had to wait till it got fixed sorry. Anyway, these were from a few days ago and you see how the little leaves are turning yellow? is that supposed to happen? and i guess i didnt water enough or something but the bottom fan leaves bagan yelowing. I watered it alot today but with that shitty soil idk what to do really. I was shocked to see the leaves drooping so much and so yellow today when i went to look at it. Will it go back to normal or is it now doomed?
-
How does this look?
These are of it today. The little leaves at the bottom were entirely yellow and when i touched them they fell off. Same with two of the fan leaves. I took Pics of how the other fan leaves look tho like with the brown. Is that from under watering? Anyway, i put 6 drops of the fertalizer i had into the soil (the directions say 10-20) and now it looks much much better than it did and it has grown a little since then. I'm happy of that but those bottom leaves make me sad. And the paper is there to discourage the gnats, in case anyone was wondering. Also, when about should it start showing sex? According to what i've read it should be somewhat soon right? Sorry for being so new and needy but i need some help from more experienced people. I just dont want my first plant to be a complete failure... Any Help would be great because i'm somewhat lost at the moment.

you might find preflowers at 6-8 weeks, or when you switch to 12/12 for flowering. you might want to check for preflowers then start to flower anyways and get rid of the males. unless they are very obvious at preflowering. i got quite a few wrong trying to tell by preflowers im glad i didnt rip some out. it is getting easier after a couple of times.
-
How does this look?
I'll give a wild guess, I think the bottom leaves with the brown spots are the work of gnats or it can be stress.
-
How does this look?
No offense purp, but from what i've read and from what people told me gnats dont do damage like that. But anyway, other than those couple leaves the rest of the plant is getting on great.
-
How does this look?
Hey, It looks to me like you are running warm CFL's... Correct me if I am wrong but they look a bit on the orange warm side.. If that is the case, those are more what is used in the later flowering stage. For Veg growth, they need to be a cooler and more blue spectrum.,
Also your plant looks a bit over/ under watered. Usually when it's over watered the leaves will curl under kinda like a dead spider, but upside down. She is wilting so, how often are you watering it? if you can stick your finger or a hydrometer in about 2 inches into the soil and it's dry, water it. Also a good way to tell is the weight of the whole pot. You will be able to get used to how heavy it feels when wet and when totally dry.
The bottom leaves look like a sign of an earlier fert issue but it seems to have been corrected. You can tell how healthy your plant is by the most recent leaves. A cannibas plant builds you a timeline from the bottom up. You have no reason to worry about your plant when it's the bottom leaves from when it was that age. As the problem gets fixed the newer leaves will look and be healthier and so on with the even newer leaves.
Fix the water issue either way that it is, and the light issue and you should be fine...
Other than that, it looks like a good healthy shade of green. be proud. Some people have killed their first plant by this stage! LOL Or when I first started out years ago My plant was the same size a month into growing that your seedling was in your first pictures! LOL
Good luck and keep us posted!,

How does this look?
well today when i looked at it it had gotten much bigger than the day before yesterday. I had moved the CFLs up some to give it more room and it was almost touching one of them today so i moved them up again. I checked the water and everything and i think i can wait for that until tomorow night if not the day after. I will check again tomorow on that issue. I tried posting a reply to your messege too, elway, but my internet went down right as i clicked post and it didnt go up and i had a good paragraph so i didnt feel like retyping it sorry. but yes i am using a warmer CFL because they were laying around the house and I'm not trying to produce grade A top notch stuff for a first grow its mainly to see if I can do it so i'll stick with em throughout. And i'm pretty sure the problem was from underwatering its kinda hard to judge with the shitty soil i bought but i'm starting to figure out how its devilish mind works. And i'm sure there was no problem with ferts because I didnt start using ferts until just a few days ago so is there anything else that could cause burns like that? Anyway, it's looking great i'm waiting for signs of sex to appear in the next week or two. I measured it today and it turns out the it is 13 inches from soil to to leaves so i'm pretty proud of myself for getting this far. I just hope to heaven that its a female... Anyway, those promised pics will be up in a day or two. I've been really busy with other things as of late so its been hard to get on here and post em up but they will come. Huge thanks to anyone who views this read and gives me any advice and PLEASE KEEP IT COMING!!!! I'll post back up in a day or two

How does this look?
Alright well those promised pics are taking so long because the retarted ass camera I have isn't working again... i hate technology... Anyway, today when i looked at my plant to water it it was so droopy i almost gasped. Its only been like 3 days since i last watered and my soil retains the water so is it from ot watering it or what? I think it should pep up over then next day now that it has ferted water in it but man it scared me. I'll have to start checking morning and night now instead of just at night. sometimes i'd check every other day just because i didn't deem it extremely necessary to contantly peer at it but i guess i'll have to. I've really grown attached to it and for it to fail now would suck so i'm going to definitely keep a much better eye on things. When i measured it two days ago it was 16 and a half inches from soil to top leaves. I'm gonna measure again in a few days when the droop is gone. Oh and btw i noticed today that my gnat problem is completely gone. I saw one gnat that i squished on the wall and that was all. I'm thankful for that at least. As soon as the camera is fixed i'll post up more pictures and sorry again for the delay. Any advice on the droopyness or just plain comments would be great!

How does this look?
its that crappy soil you have go to a hydroponic store and buy fox farms ocean forest mix its the best soil ever
-
How does this look?
Yea i would buy real good soil but like i said its a first grow i'm not expecting the best results and i dont have a very good budget so its kind of hard for me to get really good supplies. And the soil isnt too bad it was my carelessness but its not going to happen again. And btw, i have no clue where i would find a hydroponics store around here
-
How does this look?
potting soil is like 6 bucks a bag.....
you don't need a huge budget for a first grow but you do need the right materials.
Think about it, you are trying to replicate an environment.
If you grow in shitty soil and get shitty results, are you going to want to do it again? What will you learn about maintaining an environment when you are constantly battling the problems that your shitty soil is causing.
Get the right stuff, transplant your plant and do it right the first time.
It's NOT just a weed that will grow under any conditions. It requires a stable, nurturing environment and constant attention if you want any sort of positive results.

How does this look?
Alright then how can i go about transplanting it without causing extreme stress to the plant?
-
How does this look?
well if you want to know this way cut the container in half then there you go the roots my be a bit big so i wouldnt try and trsnplant it since i suck at it but thats the easiest way:thumbsup:
-
How does this look?
Is there a way to do it while keeping the pot intact?
-
How does this look?
Hey man, you can repot them really easily - just prepare your new (bigger) pot, with some new soil (& vermiculite/perlite mixed with it) in the bottom so that the bottom of the plant's stem is about 3" below the rim of the pot...
Give the pot its in right now a tap on the sides and bottom, hold the plant upside down with your fingers around the stem, and slide the pot off. Place the plant into your new pot, fill in the sides with soil, press gently down on the soil as you're fillin in.. give a good watering in and thats it.
So long as you don't disturb the root ball too much (or at all, which is possible), then you shouldn't shock your plant (noticebly) at all.
Hope this helps, and you're plants are really starting to come on.. good job:thumbsup:

How does this look?
Alright if I get the chance within the next few days i'll do that then. I can see really tiny things in the nodes near the little green spikey lookin things (forgot their real name) so i think it shouldbe showing sex within the next few days so i might just wait because i dont want to put the time and effort into transplanting if i'm gonna have to get rid of it if its a male so if its a female i will but until i find out if its a boy or girl it'll have to stay where it is
-
How does this look?
OK i have bad news... i think it might be a male... If it is, would it be worth keeping it and harvesting it, i mean it is my first grow and male plants do SOMETHING right? or should i like just get rid of it and start fresh?
-
How does this look?
Alright i'm like positive its a male.... should i hermie it or what? heres some pics finally... although the close ups of the flowers looked like shit so i didnt upload em
-
How does this look?
If its a male just kill it man or feed it to the cats then finish killing it. Not enough thc in males to get you high plus it will fill the entire room with pollen which down the road when you get a female will become pollinated from it and ruin the crop. What a sentence lol. Is that the only plant you have going?
-
How does this look?
yea it is... thats why i considered hermie-ing it becuase i dont want 2 months of work to go to waste....
-
How does this look?
-
How does this look?
sorry bro that plant is worthless....chop n' chuck
trying to convert it into a hermie is a waste of time you wont get anything usable off of it...
-
How does this look?
aight thanks for the info and help. I'm gonna get rid of it tonight.... its very depressing really after nurturing it for over two months for it to turn out male.... but oh well... shit happens. i hope i have better luck with my next grow. i'mma gonna do at least two plants this time now that i have more of a hang of it and a much better grow space. I'll keep you guys posted on how the new ones do. I just gotta pick up a couple extra pots and a few other things... and will it be safe to reuse the pot i planted this one in? not the soil i'm sure but the pot? Thank you guys for all the help you have given me in the past couple months i really appreciate it, honestly, my plant wouldnt have gotten as far as it did without you. Although it turned out worthless u guys all tried to help and i really appreciate it. Thank you all
