Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
Anyone else experience this? I'm not proud of it, but whenever I see anyone dressed in gangsta clothing, taking a picture with the "gangsta pose", saying thinks like "mah peeps", etc., I just want to yell at them!
I mean, they think they're soooo cool, but it's really almost amusingly pathetic.
(Btw, that pose with the fingers is commonly done and it is not that that bugs me, but when it is accompanied by the stone-hard look as well...)
-
Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
yes. sometimes it's(the pose) funny with friends but when you do and try to actually mean it? it's stupid.
then again I really don't know if you are talking about what I see. it might be different cause i'm actually around very poor notorious urban areas.

Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
i think its kind of dumb as well. but im sure there are 'gangsters' out there that think living in a small town in PA and wanting nothing more than to go hunting is dumb as well.

All this shit started in New York when the "rap" artists started the trend of dressing like guys going to jail, which includes the shoe-laces untied so that they can't run away. To idolize muggers, and other criminals, is just stupid. I blame it on the breakdown of the family, and the relegation of fatherhood to the level of an unnecessary relic. You catch one of these gang-punks alone, and they're afraid to even look you in the eye.
-
Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
i pose gangsta all the time and throw up a set but its real but i do hate it if they are fake and think there gangsta and never done gangsta shit they whole life not sayin im one or anything but have been through my share of G shit
-
Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
Shiit. I dont try to draw attention to myself n' shit like that. I guess you could call me the "quiet thug". I go about my business, not tryin' to fuck with anyone that don't need to be fucked with, but I'm damn sure not slippin'.
-
Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
Yeah that sub culture never interested me.

I agree it's stupid to idolize criminals, but I guess that's just unfortunately the way it is with some people. I also think it may have to do with absence of a mother/father figure and poverty stricken circumstances where these kids grow up and see nothing positive except for hustling drugs and basically 'doing what it takes'.
But, to say gangs, gang violence, and gangsta trends is because of rap artists? What lol?. The artists just bring what they experienced/saw [Way before they were artists] to the public. Many of them grew up in the situations mentioned above...and now they act as a reporter, sharing their upbringings with the rest of the world.
People get so upset when they hear a guy rapping about murder, drugs, guns, and all that...but they are simply just reporting the truth to you. People don't get mad at the guy on the news telling you about a murder, or even at a movie where you actually SEE the act of violence...but when it comes to hip-hop music...God forbid!

This is all you need to know. It's pretty close-minded to judge a whole lifestyle just because you don't agree with it.
Btw Hock...how are things? Party like it's 1999 with your posts lol.

You really don't think it's at all exagerrated? I agree that some rappers are probably truthful, but others just glory in their image without any real truth.
-
Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
Well who doesn't hate a wanna be gangster
I know some real gangsters that are proud to be what they are
they've done some real shit and without the act they'd be dead
some move on to normal lifestyles
some stay stuck in that environment forever
we gotta show some respect!
-

Some places you do that you can get yourself hurt if you start throwin up signs. People take that seriously in some places.

I know what you mean, but it's not all about personal experiences. Some of it is just characterization of what would/does go on in that kind of lifestyle...like a movie [or like I said...a reporter...the guy on the scene didn't have anything to do with the event, but he was there to witness it, and reports it back to the public]. Then of course, a lot of guys express personal experience.

Maybe I have a different perspective living in Canada, where there really is no excuse for anyone to be like that. Here our economy is fucking booming, and there is no reason for ANYONE to be unemployed and steal....and if you're not well off, the government will practically wipe your ass for you.
They just can't be bothered with a real job. Easier to put a cap in some guy's ass.
-
Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
I actually kind of dig the hip-hop dress style. A pose is a pose is a pose. It's a pose. Nothing more til you add an "R" to the end. I can't stand a poser. I really hate those suburbanite white kids who have two black friends and try and talk like them one minute and like a yuppie the next. Gangsta lifestyle is stupid. Trying to make a living selling drugs and stealing cars, and complaining about the man keeping you down is whack. The man should keep them down, they're fucking thieves. Gangsta traits aren't so bad by themselves, but combined they can make one sorry ass person. That goes for any genre of people: gangstas, rednecks, preps, emo kids, nerds, whoever.

Yeah unfortunately there is a lot of shit happening behind the curtains
With the media and all, it's practically impossible
for most of the population to really know what's going on
those kids that act gangsters but really aren't, really are a disgrace
they were led by the media's influence, helping spreading the false images
its kindda sad!
and 4twentE you are absolutely right
-
Anything "gangsta" makes me grind my teeth....
4twentE and Canadanks...some good points.
Being from Canada lol, probably just basing opinion on media influence...
Watch this, it's the edited version unfortunately, but great song...

Yeah, personally i really hate the gangsta persona that everyone is trying to pick up these days, but the fact is is that, no matter how good a country's economy is doing, there will ALWAYS be poverty and crime, no matter how you slice it. Im sure canada has bad ghettos, as america does. And for every little suburban white kid acting tough, there is a black man trying to put food on the table. That being said, there is alot of welfare abuse and general laziness, but still there is alot of people just trying to get out of the hood. Its not always through legitimate ways, i mean, its a very bad place. I went to a football game in a pretty rough part of the city, high school, and some dispute over money turned into a 16 year old shooting a 17 year old in the face with a 9mm. I was standing about 30 feet away at the concessions booth and watched it unfold. That kind of bullshit happens quite often in many parts of the city which is the #1 poorest and #7 most dangerous, and i can see why these kids want to get the fuck out of there.

The fashion no, not at all. Unless it looks like The Streets just puked all over them. I wear some hip hop clothing, hat's, boots, hoodies, baggy jeans, but I don't really wear XXL T's. I have worn clothes from all different stereotypical groups over the years. Now I just wear what I fancy wearing. It's fashion at the end of the day, and people will always dislike other fashions. Mostly because it just doesn't appeal to them. Same with every other thing in life. It's the attitudes that count. If someone is acting like something their not then that's a bit different in my books. Don't hate someone just becsuase they wear a different T-Shirt.

I don't hate them, I just hate their style...I think it looks idiotic. That's just what I think.

I don't understand while the gangster lifestyle is glamorized so much. If a lot of these wannabes actually went to a real ghetto (there are plenty of em here in Chicago), they'd see it's a life filled with lots of violence, hardcore drug use (ie. meth, crack, etc), and basically being a menace 2 society. There's nothing glamorous about that.
