Questions about an inline duct fan....
I bought a 6 inch inline duct fan made by Aero~Flo Model AF-6 I lost all the paperwork about the install of the fan and now when I'm going to hook it up I'm a lil lost. So here are the specs of it and hopefully you guys can help me...
It's an;
Aero~Flo Booster Inline Fan
Model AF-6
Power Input: 120 VAC. 60 HZ.
Max Amps. 0.64
Max Watts 37.0
Certified for use to 266 degrees F
With an impedence & thermal protected self lubricating motor. It has 2 wires coming out of it both are copper with black insulation and white writing that says the same on both wires, they both go down to the fan motor on the right side one on the left side. I'm wanting to hook it up directly to a plug the to a wall outlet, can I do this and if so which wire is the ground and which is the hot? Will it be safe to run it directly wired and plugged in to an outlet, any info would be great.....? Thanks
Let me know if you need any more info or pics?

there is no ground both wires are hot ........grab a receptical, wire one side to white the other to black if the fan spins backward....reverse them :)

So it will be safe to just wire a plug to the fan, then plug it to a wall outlet, no need for anything else? I just want to make sure it's safe and not going to ruin the fan as I'm low on cash and cant buy another fan. Also both wires are plg on the fan as well as the cord that i'm using for the plug.

Dive:stoned: - I've read a lot of your posts and usually you give good advice, but you should stay away from electrical questions. :D
LTS - put a cord on the fan and it will work. It doesn't matter which side is which. The fan will only spin one way.

lol yea its only DC current that you can reverse polarity on a motor not AC

HUH?
I like to help you with this but I haven't got a clue what you are asking. :wtf:
What the heck is "plg"?

It's a plug, sorry typo... I was asking if everything would be ok if i just wired the fan up to a cord with a plug and then plugged it into a wall outlet. So no matter what wire i hook up it will run and not burn up the motor. I just want to makie sure it's hooked up right. With the correct cord wires going to the correct wires on the fan. Thanks

I am 99% sure that you can wire a plug (or cord) to those two wires, as discussed above. To be 100% sure, take a real close look at your fan. Is there anything else that looks like an electrical connection (a brass screw or lug or connection)?
... or your fan could be some really weird model that is wired differently from most other fans.:wtf:
See if you can find your fan here:
download Aeroflo literature as PDF files for axial fans, duct boosters, blowers, iris dampers, inline fans, cooling fan or here:
axial fans, centrifugal blowers, inline fans, ventilation equipment, air flow, iris dampers, impellers, fan blades from Aeroflo Inc.
It looks like they have their literature online but no search feature. If you can find your model and post a link, that would be great.
It's probably easier to do a little research than to earn the money to buy a new fan. ;)
Anyhoo - if I can see a schematic I can tell you fer sure.

This is my fan the AF-6, no other connections besides the two wires coming from either side of the motor.

It says on that page "direct to 115v source", so you are good to go.
Put a plug, or a cord with a plug, on that puppy and make her spin!

So no need to worry about what wires I hook up from the cord to the fan wires? No real wrong way to hook it up?
Questions about an inline duct fan....
Yeah - yeah - yeah! Hook the damn wires together and plug it in. LOL
The only real wrong way to hook it up would be to allow the wires to contact each other and cause a short. Make sure you twist one pair of wires together, then tape the connection, then twist the other pair together, then tape that connection, then tape continuously from a couple inches above to a couple inches below your connection. This will properly insulate the wires and provide a little strength so that the connection doesn't pull apart.
Look - the worst that can happen is you burn down your house because you listened to some anonimous idiot on the internet who really knew nothing about electricity. :D So what's the big worry? Fuck, live dangerously.

Thats not funny........:wtf::wtf::wtf:
I'm going to try and do it in the morning and let it run for awhile to make sure it's working ok.

I thought the self-deprevation was kinda funny, but to each his own. I didn't mean to worry you. I've got many years of wiring experience. If you have any doubts about the advice, you can check out this thread.

Yup - It sure looks like I did, doesn't it.
Just goes to show ya, no good deed goes unpunished. I take the time to write a detailed description of how to hook two fucking wires together, take the time to read about his fan just to be double sure I'm right, and what do I get - a thank you? Hell no, I get a critique of my humor.
Sometimes I get really tired of these spoiled little brats who think the world owes them a living and that think the kindness of strangers is something that is due them.
Oh well...

There is a "thanks" in one of my messages also... I guess you wanted a personal one from me.. And the spoiled little brats comment is far from what I am... So go smoke a bowl and calm down some and dont let a simple missing thank you on an internet forum ruin you day... So THANK YOU for the help with two lil wires, didnt mean to get your panties in a bunch....

People who make pissy little comments shouldn't complain when they get it back in their face.
You have a nice life.

I have used these in the past too and all I did was use some household 3wire and buy a plug. wire nuts and electrical tape it and if there is no ground just screw the ground wire from the 3wire to the frame with a small screw so it wont stick thru and hit something.
Always worked for me.
Questions about an inline duct fan....
Well, I have a household plug with a 2wire cord so I'm going to use it and see how it goes.
Questions about an inline duct fan....
If it needed a grd wire the fan would have had one, you'll be fine with a household plug. But if you are still scared bring it back to the store and ask. Or hell just take it to homedepot they'll tell you, if you are lucky they might even hook it up for you.
Questions about an inline duct fan....
keep in mind, inline duct fans are made for 'pushing' cool air into the lamp area, not 'pulling' the hot air into the fan ... the lamp's heat is harmful to the fan motor ... :smokin:
