Earlier today, my roommate's friend phoned and left a message with me that I was supposed to tell my roommate when he woke up. But I can't remember what that message was for the life of me! This is kinda fucked... I'm thinking about quitting weed, because I can't allow my memory to get fucked around like this. What do you think?
affects my short term memory but i don't worry about it cause its usually just misplacing something for like 10 minutes before i remember where it is. when it makes me forget peoples names and crazy stuff like that i'll quit. i doubt weed alone can make your memory burn out real real bad
I've been smoking daily for three years and I dont have any memory problems. There are some nights that I smoked a lot and had some beers and cant remember much though.
Maybe the weed is just making me paranoid, but my roommate got all pissy about it. Apparently I completely fucked over his plans for the night, and arguing with him about it isn't exactly a fun way to spend my high. I was supposed to tell him where they were supposed to meet up, and I forgot where... maybe if his friend wasn't such a cheap motherfucker and got himself a cell-phone... but I digress. It's just not like me to forget stuff like that, but it's happened a few times lately. Forgetting the name of my cousin's best friend put me in an awkward spot just a few days ago, causing my uncle to go into full-on Outrage mode about how I should know things like that and that I'm a terrible person... So I asked him the name of my best friend and that just pissed him off more because he didn't know and I proved that he was a fucking hypocrite. This hasn't been a good week...
If my memory is the price i have to pay to feel this good (i'm pretty high right now), then damnit those are the sacrifices we must pay. We must not cower in the face of unmountable odds!!!! We must toke on and show the world that marijuana is our friend! Carry on soldiers!
It can only give you shrt term memory loss WHILE yu are high. Once it is over it wont have anyy negative effect o your memory.

i've always been forgetfull and when i smoke i usually just forget stuff while i'm high but i don't really care cuz it's never the important stuff.

I think the problem is that you were high either when you received the message or when you were giving it.
I haven't seen any real difference in my memory, though I've always had problems remembering stuff that wasn't important to myself or people important to me.
And if your friends gets pissed at you for forgetting a message, tell him to shut up, it's his fault for not being there to get it himself or for not being able to get in contact with his friend, you're not his secretary.
Though if you do take a message for someone in the future, just write it down so you won't forget.

I think that any short term memory loss that you have when you smoke is temporary. Keep smoking.:jointsmile:
You do tend to forget small things, or find it hard to recall things at times but this is generally while your high, a bit after you got high or a few days after smoking heavily.
If anything, Weed can open up a new line of thinking and creativity in those who use it right... Everything has it's ups and downs, and it comes down to 'choice'; & 'for every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction'.
Everyone knows it affects short term memory - but not longterm.
My short term memory is really bad.
Half way through conversations with people i stop and ask "what were we talking about".
Even when im arguing with my girlfriend, sometimes I forget what we're arguing about and I have to ask her. haha.
My short term memory was bad before i started smoking so i cant really tell a difference.
I naturally have a terrible short term memory, mainly because I'll be occupied with something and won't pay attention to my parents or whatever I am supposed to do and I'll forget it, so I know its not the weed.
Yes, cannabis messes with your short term memory, but it apparently prevents amyloid plaque which is a part of what gives a person Alzheimer's. Here is a news article about that-

I'm almost 60 and Alzheimer's scares the hell out of me. It's more than nice that my migraine medicine will help keep my wits about me as I get older! smoking every day more than once will mess your every day memory up. one week later u will feel way way fresher and smarter than u ever have, give it a try some time. 1 week off of weed and u feel like youre permanently on cocaine

i cant remember anything for shit. i think thats the only bad side effect marijuana has on people, if anything at all. some people will always have a good short term or long term memory.
People can forget without ever smoking cannabis.
absolutley not, although when i cook sometimes i do forget a lot of shit, but i never worry about it, because when im not high, i rarely forget anything,
