Dizzy's gone micro.
I couldn't stop myself... So I did the only thing I could.
I present my Micro Grow.
Simple PC case that is stripped out and suited up.- Reflective aluminum tape.
- 120mm 95 CFM exhaust fan. Has 4 blue LED's, does that count as a CFL/LED grow? :D
- 2 42 watt 6500 CFL's. Soon to be 4 or 5.
- 2 23 watt 6500 CFL's. Soon to be none.
- Chopped up extension cords.
- Make shift reflector with chicken type wire and reflective tape.
- 4" Aluminum flex duct hooked up the fan and ran outside.
Seems to average 77 to 85 degrees. I'm sure I can get it better if it comes to it.
Plants came from grow partner which came from his friend... Guy planted I think 12 in his yard and then gave up on them, gave them to my buddy. Almost half are very near death, a couple were dead, and I took the 2 healthiest. I'm going to guess they are 2 to 3 weeks old and have been subjected to crap weather, crap dirt (shit had clovers in the cups) and as of 3 or so days ago 12/12 lighting under the 400 HPS. So, I repotted them after I got rid of as much crap cake soil they were in. I did leave enough dirt to keep the root structure stable though.
I will put them in 12/12 as well since I need to keep em very short. I'll be doing a "reverse scrogg" on them. I don't think there is an official name, but I've seen it called that before. Basically you put the screen under the planter and tie the branches down to it, leaving the tops to grow up alone.
Enjoy!

Cool looking box, Dizzy! One suggestion - your connections for the light wires aren't going to do well in a humid environment. Moisture gets inside the wire nuts and the copper wire corrodes. You should either put those connections outside the box or at least move them up higher - closer to the lights and the heat and dryer air.
I can't wait to see how your grow goes!
PC

Thanks PC!
I had wondered about those wires as I was setting it up, no need to argue with the advise. :) I was also thinking about filling them with Silicon... Eh, after I add the other socket set-up I'll just re route them in the back, I have to work on that bulk head anyway, light keeps wanting to peek out.
Thanks again!

Dizzy's gone micro.
looks great bro, i'll be following you all the way:thumbsup:have you any idea of the strain ?
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
I don't have a clue on the strain, they were all bag seed and I never sampled the smoke, but it supposedly was pretty potent.
Even if it's halfway decent I'll be happy.
Thanks for checking it out!

Dizzy's gone micro.
I like UR pc grow.
I grew in a pc once. and I got about 5 grams from the scroged plant.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
Doh!
But... that would still be 5 grams more than I had before. lol
In the words of Monty Python, always look on the bright side of life. ;)
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
Nice looking set up you got there dizzy. I'm interested to see how this turns out. Good luck, keep us posted please. :D

Dizzy's gone micro.
this looks like some real fun here
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
It is fun! in a novel sort of way. :)
Everything looks so perfect when the plants are still so young, then you think how big they will get... But I've see it done many other times, and those results, the good ones, showed it can be done with pretty decent success.
It'll be harvest time in another month or so with the other grow, so I'll be in smoke for quite the while, this lil grow will just be for humors sake, but I'll be treating it like the real deal.
I reworked a few things last night to add to the ventilation system, I can have all the bulbs on and the temp never goes above 85 degrees F. I'll post up pics tonight.

Dizzy's gone micro.
growing is fun it's a great passtime and the smoke is always enjoyable. smoking your own grow is a great buzz, good luck dizzy, look forward to your updates.

Dizzy's gone micro.
Little update.
Made a few changes to the case.
Added grills to the fans.
Another socket & CFL. About 150 to 160 combined CFL watts now.
Made a square duct upfront and attached an 80mm fan that's at an angle to blow on the plants and lights. 5 CFL's definitely bump up temp, in fact I've had to kick on the 6" inline duct fan that I've had inline but never used. The fan is a cheap Suncourt "Inductor", rater at 250 CFM but it has been reduced to a 4" line, still drops the temp an additional 8 degrees F, and the then the PC case can only supply so much intake air without creating serious light issues, there are a few light leaks as it is, nothing that should harm the plants but there is so much light it's making some plastic covers on the exterior glow... that's even with all the tape on the inside. My wife and childrens leave next week for a week, so I'll be fine tuning the whole thing. :)
OK what's next... Plants are starting to come alive since I've saved them. Clean soil mixture, little bit of nutes and the tops are starting to perk up. The lower leaves on one are purple, I can only attribute this to stress and their old conditions. The green color is ever so slightly starting to come up the stem though, I expect a good recovery.
Added the chicken wire to the sides of the pot with my favorite adhesive, duct tape. ;) And then started a light regime of S&M on the plants.
I think that covers the changes.
Been on 12/12 for the 2nd day. FYI.

Dizzy's gone micro.
they look much better but I would have wated a little longer on the 12-12.
back when I did my pc grow I let the plant get good and bushy with lots of LSTing befor I went to 12-12 light change.
and I also scroged it. and that helped the plant get more bud sites.
I'll try to find a pic if U want.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
Heya Hydro, I would like to see that pic.
As for them going in 12/12 so soon, I've seen results on both sides of the fence. I don't mind a small yield if that's the outcome, like I said earlier, my other grow will be complete in about a month, this micro is just something "fun" to do.
But yeah, I'd be interested in your PC pics. :)

Dizzy's gone micro.
ok here R some pix of my 2 pc grows. I grew them side by side in my closet.
the buds they gave me kicked ass.
first pic is 2 clones that R some time after the 12-12 light flip.
2ed pic is a few weeks befor the harvest.
pic 3 is most of the harvest and it was not dryed when this pic was taken.
and the last pic is of the other pc grow I had right next to that one.
ok dizzy. I grew these about a year ago. it was a very fun way to grow some great bud.
so I hope UR pc grow grows as nice as mine did.
NOW. In case some one comes in here and trys to say they have seen these pix befor. just so U know I WAS on a NOTHER MJ growing site a while back befor I joind this much better site.
and U may have seen them on that one. and also I was under a nother user name back then.

Dizzy's gone micro.
Hey those look pretty decent to me!
Thanks for the pics.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
yeah they look good hydro:thumbsup:
them plants are looking much better dizzy, your doing a great job there bro keep it up:greenthumb:
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
you've done a lot of ingenious work there  ... but, I have to wonder if you have ever considered, you are facing the same jail time and expense, (for a pitifully tiny yield), as if you were growing conventional sized plants ... sorry, but these micro-grows just will never make any sense to me ... the 'results vs penalties' just doesn't add up ... good efforts, though ... :smokin:
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
well the post under this (well use to be under until i posted) is dizzy first bag seed grow and the plant look to be full size to me....i think this is just for fun...
looks good interested to see how much you yield in that
edit:
hydro those plant look amazing good job:thumbsup:

Dizzy's gone micro.
Hehe
The laws where I'm at are a little more lax on the subject. Typically up here they go after the "big" guys, majority of people who get nailed with less than 24 plants and nothing else going on just get the plants taken and a fine, or nothing. If the feds don't get involved.
The real "law" I have to worry about is my spouse.
The reason I am doing this is it's the smallest grow I can do and still end up with results of some sort. Doing it out of interest for the hobby. Deffinetly not doing it for commercial purposes, or even for enough to supply me in smoke for the time it takes to grow it out... I have my grow partner for that.
And thanks.
And correct Mr. Blue. I have 2 separate things going. One at my own place and then one with my buddy.
The one at my place is the PC Case and is just for fun.
The one elsewhere is a more full size thing... as full size as a closet can be.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
right on dizzy:thumbsup:watching your plants turn into lovely bud is a great passtime no matter how big or small your grow is, it makes me appreciate the beautiful herb more.keep cool bro.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
First off I would like to apologize for the pic quality, the camera this time is also my phone... family is taking the real camera with them and it's currently packed.
I switched over the bulbs to all 6500k as the plants were looking better with the other bulbs, but weren't really going anywhere. They're still on 12/12 and once I see established bud sites, I will switch the bulbs back to the 2700-3200k bulbs.
Added more soil minus perlite to the top, the air exchanging in the case likes to take the water and soil out the vent, I figured I'd make the top layer as heavy as possible with the hope it would stick around and also block some moisture from leaving with it. The existing soil was heavy on the perlite at about a 60% soil and 40% perlite.
Still having fun. :rastasmoke:

when closed up, that setup looks clean and well diguised. props.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
Thanks DS, that was the goal throughout the build-up, what won't stick out.
:)
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
hey how R they looking now?
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
They're lookin good!
I've been in reconstruct mode with the case for the past few days and will have updated pics either later tonight or tomorrow.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
Here we go. Only one pic for now, long ass day dontcha know. :)
More to come! And some S&M!
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
comeing along very nicely dizzy, keep up the good work bro:thumbsup:
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
I think when you're finished with this grow you should post a how to/DIY PC grow
after seeing this thread I really want to do one.
how old are they now?
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
I would be glad to do it. :)
And from my best guesstimate they are about 34 days old.
Both are starting to show deff hairs and smell veeery nice.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
SWEET. I'd really like to see it. I grow hydro, but If I did a PC grow I think it only makes sense to do it in soil. Since I've started growing I havent researched a whole lot on the soil requirements so it would be interesting to learn what you've found to work best in a PC/soil environment
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
hey dizzy any new pic of them.
how R they doing I guess prity good A.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
Hey Dizzy - Love the new avatar. Now, put the nun back, will ya. (After 12 years of catholic school, she's my fantasy girl.) :D
PC :pimp:
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
LOL, she's doing some mission work, but will be back. :p
I have about 7 more hours before I can crack the case and get a pic. I looked at them last night and figured tonight we'd be wraslin (wrestling with a heavy southern drawl).
Both of them are very healthy so far.
Pics tonight or tomorrow morning, for those of you in far far away land.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
do you have your lights on cycle during the night? if so does that seem necessary for temp issues?
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
They're in Flowering (12/12), but I could leave the lights on 24/7 if need be for Veg, temps might hit 90 ish during the day though.
-
Dizzy's gone micro.
Here are more pictures.
You can see the hairs and the two couldn't smell more different from each other even if they were different strains. One is just rough and pungent, almost a toxic smell (Smells awesome) and the other is sweet and mild, very low key (Still smells awesome).

Dizzy's gone micro.
Some pics of the "stealth factor".
I'm working on a passive air freshener (Febreez)
injection in the exhaust line, nothing to show for that right now.
If I wanted to I could mount my kitty litter scrubber in place of the line through the wall and still have it covered up. The current 120mm fan pulling out air just doesn't have the balls to cool this many CFLs without the 6" cheap ass inline fan to help out. If I were to use my other 120mm Sunon fan, it would do it without a hick-up I would guess, but it's currently at my partners house helping out the closet. I need to pick up another one (Sunon) it's a beast of a PC fan.
