A few problems during flowering?
Newbie here...first grow. I went the inexpensive and easy route on my first one. Using fluoros with miracle grow soil (I had no idea miracle grow wasn't the best idea until it was too late to transplant them). Let's just say I found this site a bit too late in the process. I'm also using pots that I know aren't big enough but sufficient (beginner's mistake). For those that read my first thread, my plants are back to their normal selves for the most part after having a light hit them
I'm 3 and a 1/2 weeks into flowering and I'm currently using 4 40-watt warm white fluoros (all 3000k) under shop lights that are 2-3 inches from the tops and a couple of 40 watt CFL's pointing at them from 2 feet. I know it's not enough light but I'm on a budget with this first grow. I'm using a light 10-30-10 bloom solution every time I water.
All 4 of my plants are experiencing some issues with the lowest leaves over the past week or so. They are drooping, turning a bit fluffy and crispy and are turning yellow and dying off around the sides of the leaves. Since this is my first time, I wasn't sure if this was normal at close to 4 weeks into flowering. The upper branches of all of them are also turning purple (but not the leaves or buds). The last problem is that some of the white pistols are dying (turning brown and wilting), but nothing significant and it's scattered around the middle and a little at the top.
Does anyone have some thoughts on this?
Here is a bad picture of one of the drooping leaves. One easily pulled off right before I typed this. Unfortunately, I have no camera besides my phone and the phone's camera stinks.

A few problems during flowering?
I just added that chart to my faves.....thanks Dave. :)
A few problems during flowering?
thanks, Dave. I checked it out and I think you guys are right, it's probably too much nutes.
Can you let me know when it becomes common for leaves to start dying off and falling off during flowering stage? Thanks.
A few problems during flowering?
it differs from strain to strain most start in the mid to late flowering stage
A few problems during flowering?
you said you had a couple of 40 watt CFL's pointing at them from 2 feet if you can get them closer it would really help

A few problems during flowering?
unfortunately my grow space is tall more than wide and I'd have to rig up something to get them closer and since the fluoros are just above the plants, I can only come in from the sides...difficult. I'm having slow flowering growth and I'm positive the reason why is poor light (and the smallish pots probably don't help, either). I'm going to have to work on this a bit to get it right.
I'm having too much fun with this now (except when I'm high and dropping shit on the plants!)

a light also fell on my plant then someone put it outside when i was away...now i hope they dont die....or are males....

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your setup as you explained it so sorry if this is wrong, but if you're worried about fooling with the lights above the plants then don't. If it fell once already because it's hard to get up there, then just leave it be.
Instead, to get the plants closer to the lights, do just that, get the plants closer, not the lights. Stack some old books (phone books should help), or something under them if you can. That should get them closer. I don't know if that will work for you, though I hope it does. Good luck.

haha my method...yea try either phone books or like me a old speaker box but make sure what ever you use can withstand the weight of the soil pots ect... kuzz i almost used a shoe box then realized it wouldnt work soo i just went with a speaker box nd it brought um real close to mah cfls like 3 inches away...good luck nd try not to hurt ur babiis anymore...like me...:wtf:

If you are using CFL's its a very good move to increase the watts when going from veg to flower. Pref double the lighting power for the lights you are using, even if this means using less during veg. I think the advantage would be greater, as the added power gives fatter and denser buds.
EDIT* Another thing, deffinatly get propper reflective material in your grow space if you don't have any. 'Mylar' is what you are looking for, and cost about £3.50 a square meter. If you cant do that, AT LEAST use tinfoil imo, just make sure you have the 'dull' side reflecting and you lay it smooth.

The space I'm using is a cubbyhole under the stairs in my basement. It's high on one end but slopes down...it's about 6 feet high and slopes to about 3 feet at the back and it's about 4 feet wide. It's really the only inconspicuous place I can do this and can be easily covered up in dark periods or if I fear anyone venturing down there. I painted the walls a glossy white. I've got phone books and shit under the lights to get the plants within 2 inches of the long fluoros (4 40-watt 48" warm white fluoros overhead), so that's not an issue (I gave up on raising the lights anymore because it was causing too many panic attacks so I put them up high and I'm bringing the plants to them now....it's just a weird angled space I'm using and getting those 2 CFL's (also 40 watts) on the sides close enough without making it too difficult for me to reach into the cramped space to pull out the plants for inspection without moving a bunch of stuff around and causing accidents (like the one I had earlier in the week when I was doing exactly that). I decided to try my hand at growing but didn't want to put much cost into it at first before I could make sure it could be done. Things like that space, bugs, basement temps and other factors played into my decision of wanting to wait to see how this ended up from start to finish. If I get decent buds from this, then I'll put more money, time, and effort into the next grow. I live in the northern states so I'm not sure if I can grow during the colder months since my basement gets pretty chilly in the winter so I'll have to look into a large space heater or something if I do that (I hope I can because I'd really like to do this again). I am extremely tight-lipped on this and not a single person knows I'm growing anything so the basement area is the only place I will grow, plus I live alone but I do have people over (and it's not that I don't trust anyone, I just don't trust the people that they may tell). I'm discovering lots of trial by error things and it's been interesting to say the least. If I get some decent buds, then I'm sure I will try my hand at this again. I'm really just doing this so I can save the money and hassle of having to buy off my guy all the time (and he does get good shit, so it's really not about getting better stuff), but the joy of creating this is a cool experience as well.
For the heck of it, I've got one other plant growing in a small space in my basement as well where only one plant can grow and I've got 2 40 watt CFL's pointing down at it at 3 inches. I started this one after the other plants (that are flowering) and I tried different things on this plant, like topping it and using regular soil with perlite instead of miracle grow like the others have. I'm experiencing more issues with this plant, obviously because the nutrients (albeit crappy ones, I guess) aren't stocked in there like the miracle grow has. This plant is getting much bushier than the others but it's hit a snag where the new leaves stopped growing (imagine the leaves are just about the fan out but they just stay in a fixed position just before they open up) and the older leaves turned dark green and the stems are purplish and so are the veins in the those leaves and there are hints of yellow taking over the middle to sides of those leaves as well. The older leaves are also experiencing something where the sides of the leaves are turning upward and the tips are turning down. The newer leaves are lighter green but again, the leaves that are supposed to be fanning out, aren't now and haven't for a good week. I've flushed the plant to see if maybe I overfed them and it locked up some key nutes it's needing and let it sit for 2 days and they just got worse, so I fed them a solution of 20-20-20 with epsom salts and a hint of molasses yesterday so I'll give it 2 days to see what happens there. I grew this other one using the methods described in here to see how the results differ....interesting to say the least.

Also if your worried about lack of heat during winter months, just use a 400w HPS to flower, that'll keep em tostie. heh
A few problems during flowering?
I agree with using mylar. About that glossy white you painted on the walls. Painting white is good, but gloss/semi-gloss can create hotspots on your plants. You want to paint that flat white. But still consider mylar.
And I agree with the tell no one rule. Keep it secret keep it safe. LoL now I feel like a fucking nerd.... anyways good luck with the rest of it. At the very least it's a learning experience like you pointed out.
A few problems during flowering?
try using kilz paint its matte flat white nd works great drys fast nd doesnt absorb much light....also sticks to many surfaces soo it works with most things even plastic metal and other slick surfaces...look at home depot real cheap per can or pint or quart...

AR15, I feel like a nerd too for not reveling in the moment of impressing my friends, cause I really, really want to do that. But I hold a high ranking job with my company and I've never had anything more than a traffic ticket in my life. Getting caught because I showed a friend what I'm doing and he inadvertingly told someone he knows while high and that person decided to blackmail me or worse, call the cops for some dumb reason because I looked at them funny, would ruin a lot for me so I'm not taking any chances whatsoever. I've had a couple of friends turn on me before and they got really shady over some really stupid shit. Plus, I would find it annoying to hear "just give me that small part of the plant" all the time! haha.
the only person that would be weird with me is my dealer when he's calling me wondering why I haven't stopped by in awhile. Then I'll have to make up something like I've found a better deal or I've cut down on my smoking.
I want to try out this Mylar stuff on my next grow. I'm not impressed with white paint at all.
oh, and following up on the last paragraph on my last post...they just needed good nutes. They've perked right back up, though the new leaves are still taking their sweet time...but it's much better now. This side plant I'm growing is 100% better than the plants I first started with and are presently flowering.
