Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Hi all, we have 2 plants under a 400w HPS.
They are being given Bio-Bloom nutes, in the correct doses.
The water is at around PH 5.5-6.5, 2 liters every 3 days.
It will be 30 days into flowering tomorrow, but over the last few days the leaves are beginning to get yellow 'burn' like stripes.
This is only on one plant specifically.
I hope the pictures attached will show what I am talking about, any information as to what can be done to prevent more of this and what the problem is would be much appreciated.
1st picture - the 2 plants.
2nd/3rd/4th pictures - the problem, yellowing.
5th picture - Lower fan leaf on the OTHER plant, strange discoloration??

Light burn.
Tie the plants a little further from the light, or raise it.

hey man, thanks for a quick reply.
Are you sure that is light burn? I raised the light to the top (as high as it will go) when I first noticed the problem, and its not 35cm away from the top of the plants.
I just mad some fan adjustments so its flowing RIGHT in between the light and plants, but I don't think it's just down to heat. Check out the last picture, deffinatly not light burn.

What are your temps at the canopy, and at the soil surface? Light burn and heat stress very often go hand in hand, and heat stress will make the symptoms of nute burn much more severe. You are right, the last pic is not light burn, it looks like fert burn.

The temp at the soil is around the 80's, and at the canopy 90's.
We know this is reallllllly high, but cannot put in extractor or a/c.

sorry, I'm not seeing 'light burn' there ... not good photos, but it looks like some magnesium deficiency goin' on there ... I know temps are ideal at 75, but my cabinet is in the 90's almost always (it's 105 outside, today:D), and never any visible heat damage ... ya might do a good pH check on your run-off (soak the hell out of it with 7.0 water, then measure the first bit of run-off) ... this is a good link for plant problems: International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - The Complete guide to Sick Plants,pH, and Pest troubles! thanks man,
i had a feeling it was some sort of deficiency andy...
We need to use my sisters cam for some better quality pics...

When I've seen Mg deficiency it manifests as paler green striping rather than white.
If that's Mg def, you have had a deficiency for a long time and didn't catch it in the early stages, and your temps are contributing to the white appearance of those necrotic patches.

I WAS WRONG very sorry :wtf: ... I should have said a magnesium overdosing, rather than 'deficiency' ... I suspected that, because of this Plant Problem Guide paragraph :...
QUOTE : "One of the worst problems a person can have is a magnesium def caused by a ph lockout. By giving it more magnesium to cure the problem when you are thinking you are doing good, but actually you are doing more harm then good. When the plants canâ??t take in a nutrient because of the ph being off for that element, the plant will not absorb it but it will be in the soilâ?¦ therefore causing a buildup. A buildup will be noticed by the outer parts of the plant becoming whitish and or a yellowish color. The tips and part way in on the inner leaves will die and feel like glass. Parts affected by Magnesium deficiency are: space between the veins (Interveinal) of older leaves; may begin around interior perimeter of leaf. " UNQUOTE: ...
I saw the 'whitish' reference, but didn't realize I was looking at the 'over-nuting with magnesium' paragraph ... I feel so cheap, and un-worthy :(

so what do we need to do to fix this guys? My mother won't be happy if we kill 2 of her babies...
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Well, step one is lower your temps in any way that you can.
Step 2 is to do the classic flush-and-feed fix... flush, with the last flsuh using 1/2 strength complete fert with micronutes, pH adjusted to suit the tested runoff pH of the water flushes.
Deficiency, toxicity, either way your temps being that high is making the problem worse.
Also, where is your fresh air coming from?
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Thanks very much for your advice, much appreciated.
There isn't any fresh air getting in there really. The cupboard door is left open, and so is the window in the room where the cupboard is located.
There is an oscillating fan in there, giving some air movement.
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Movement is important but EXCHANGE is more important. You need to be bringing in fresh air to replenish the supply of CO2 in the box.

cheers stinky darlin', that's handy info...

Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
They are 6 weeks into flower, with 2 still remaining.
This is the plant that had heat stress, burning, and a possible deficiency.
It seems to be producing its flowers quicker than the other plant that has had no problem.
Any advise, tips or what you think the outcome of this plant will be? Although its burnt to fuck, it is still making some rather nice buds for our second time growing.
-

This is the other plant, which has had no problems.
(The last picture is both the plants)

Any advice would be greatly apprieciated. Will the plant recover?
I think we're going to need more than 2 weeks of flowering tbh....
The strain of this weed is Shaman by the way, the same as my clones -
Shaman is an F1 hybrid of Purple #1 and an early Skunk. About 50% of the plants turn purple during flowering. It's 87.5% Sativa and 12.5% Indica.
-

Also, could a mod please rename this to 'Shaman Closet Grow' and move this into the grow logs section? Thanks :)
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Btw again, lol, we solved the heat problem by adding another fan, changing the position of the pots in the cupboard, then doing some rather high stress training, lol...
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Heat stress can cause premature ripening- it's not desirable.
If you saved clones, use only the ones from the unaffected plant in the future- obviously it is better suited to your grow conditions.
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
The clones were from the same lot of seeds, but from some outdoor ones I have luckily.
What is undesirable about premature ripening? Is it the lack of trichs?

hey weedy i think my plant with heat probs grew buds quicker and they were less dense than my other one that was shorter, interesting .i have a 600watt hps with supa nova reflector very f...ing hot. i have a fan about 30 ins up the room and i really think it did the trick ,room is 4 x4 .
ps i am was using bio kit
10mls of bloom stim
10 mls of top max
also i was only giving them top max for the first 10 days flowering which was a cock up ,i asked my shop on the phone(not any more) for some flower bloom and that is what they sent me thank god i found out but it seemed to do the trick ,strage though i am reluctant to do the same thing again now i have the both bottles.woh long post. bonus my bud works.:D

The conditions necessary for premature ripening are very stressful to the plant to begin with.
The basic reason that you don't want it is that yield will suffer BIG TIME, not just from the fact that the buds haven't had a chance to finish, but also that the CONDITIONS cause stunting, fluffy buds, and VERY low harvest weight. Plus yeah, resin production is going to suffer too.
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Could someone also give their opinion on how many more weeks flowering they think they will need?
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Start checking trichs in about a week. I am going to say one of them will be ready to come down in a little under 2 weeks. Keep posting pics too if ya feel like it.
The others will be longer. PICS!!!! :D
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
We will be sure to keep reg updated untill the end.
Unforunatly I watered both with nutes today, I shall only nute the good one from now for some more weeks.
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Yeah good plan, the frazzled one doesn't really need nutes now...
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Yea dude.
Once we give that one the chop, we should get both fans in there and lower the light some.
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
That has got to be the sorriest looking plant I have ever seen - yet still it's putting out bud.
Totally fucking amazing. I hope you keep this updated so we can see how it finishes.
PC :smokin:

Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Yeah, the light burn made it look DAMN sorry, lol. Hopefully we'll still get some OK bud from it. Will keep you all posted...
Good plan on the light Weedy...

Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Got some pics of the smokeyjoe plant, still looking crispy.
Gave a gander at the close up bud pics, they are flowering nicely but with not much density,
Trichs are becoming clearly present on this plant, I'm really regretting giving it nutes last week now.
Also the local grow shop doesn't stock massalas(sp), and we have found a source for it yet.
The other good plant pictures are comming shortly. :stoned:

That's got some issues alright....

This is the other plant, the better of the 2.
Unfortunately I could only grab 2 pics before the battery's died on me .
Ill show some more in a few days time. :rastasmoke:

How do they look? Any comments? (Stinky in particular, haha)

That last plant looks not too bad! It's about right for that late in flower. A sat-dom, huh?

correct, the second plant should be a nice smoke...
-

Ok it's update time.
First off, the crispy and problematic plant.
I think its almost time to harvest, we are checking trichome colour tomorrow.
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
The second more lush plant. Still a week atleast in this badbwoy, its only just start to show any trichs.
-
Yellow stripes, crispy leave, discolouration.
Any opinions on the remaining flowering time needed for the second plant?

Hey weedy, after the clones, do you fancy growing one of these:
