does curing affect seeds?

i was wondering if some one had a for sure answer. the first time i grew i had several small plants and new nothing about curing, the seeds from them had a nearly 100% germination rate. the next time i harvested i had learned about curing and did it, but i left the seeds in the bud. i had lots of seeds, but the germination was terrible. about 20-30% if i was lucky. well i have used up my stash of seeds and got 6 to sprout this spring, my plants are seeded and i dont want to take the risk of fudging them up. whats the best way to harvest/store your seeds?

Mostly likely the 2nd time round the seeds were immature and as a result germination rate was low. The beat way to store your seeds is in a fridge, in a box. :)

hmmm, its possible. i just want to do it right this time.

I keep my seeds in a pill bottle with rice added, to absorb any moisture, and place them in the refrigerator - will store for years like that - cool, dry, that's the key :thumbsup:

The rice tip is a great one.
If you find that the curing process is reducing your germ rate, it's possible that your jars are in a place that gets a lot of heat... bad for the bud too.
Normal curing should NOT damage your seeds, don't worry.

thanks for the tips guys. ill try rice, i also have kept them in old pill bottles. i guess i shouldnt worry about the curing affecting them then. ill also try to find a cooler spot, though i dont think it was too hot. in a closet in october but i did have it in the jars for a yr and a half before i ran out and i didnt pay attention to the temps. another short ? if i was attempting too freeze my buds and make hash would the short amount of time in there affect them much. i wouldnt think so since it wont be for long, and it would be dry sieved not bubble. ill pick most of the seeds out before, but im fairly sure i would miss some.

Allow me to add my two cents.
Proper dry curing should not affect your germination rate.
In fact it should help preserve their viability.
The only thing I would add to what's been explained above, is...
keep them in a dark place.
Cool, Dry, Dark.
Freezing is ok if you plan to use them soon, however it can affect long term viability.

don't freeze your seeds, unless you are positive, that they have fully dried, otherwise, they can burst ... put them in a container with some rice, and keep in the fridge, they can 'keep' for years like that ... :smokin:

i wasnt saying i would keep them in the freezer, just for the hour before trying to screen the buds(to help with the trichomes coming off) like i said, i can pick through but i would like to pick the seeds out after so i could catch all of the little resiny seed coverings. ok though, making a little bit of hash isnt as important as saving the seeds. thanks guys(and girls).

I'd pick seeds FIRST.
A dental pick works fabulously to poke seeds out without disturbing the buds or trichs too much.
