Women's Issues forum....no Men's Issues forum
As a fierce disliker of double standards in all shapes and forms, I question the practice of having a forum catering specifically to women, with no male counterpart.
I thought of this especially when I saw a thread titled something along the lines of "Urgh I hate boys..."

Women's Issues forum....no Men's Issues forum
We've had this discussion repeatedly, and you must have missed it. The percentage of male to female members here is about 5 to 1. The entire boards are a men's forum, in case you hadn't noticed. The decision was made to create a special, small corner in which women could talk about their issues comfortably and without ridicule. Before that sub-forum was created, in threads where women mentioned issues like periods or, say, birth control, they were getting comments like "Gross!" or "Ugh, go someplace else with that talk."
Again, these boards are largely male dominated. So don't begrudge the girls their special little safe zone. We have had plenty of threads in the past in Sexuality and other places where men have expressed their dislike of women, by the way. We want to keep this an open discussion forum as much as possible and make it a safe place for both genders to talk openly.

Hmm, i have to agree with birdgirl on this one actually if you take a look around shes right you got about 80% male members here, so let the ladies have their own little section where no man is allowed!

lol... yeah and i posted in he other... can't remember what it was but i came down to ... there really is no male issues.... well not atleast any level at what the women have...
i honestly don't see a need for it (and i'm male) i mean we don't have to discuss shit like underwear, clothes, boyfriend problems, tampons/pads, etc etc... (atleast... I HOPE)
the most common question from guys is advice on relationships... and since sexuality was changed from sexuality to sexuality AND relationships, it all kinda falls in there anyways.... and for stuff like STD's/medical problems, there's the medical forum... gaming? there's a forum for that too... sports? that as well...
i don't know if you see where i'm going with this but basicly any thread i can i think of that would need to be posted in a guys forum fits comfterably in one of the many other forums we have..

Doesnâ??t matter if this board was 99% males, or 99% female, there is no such thing as a male forum on internet message boards.
I've been on boards, usually medical related, that were mostly frequented by women and girls. They allowed special sections for teenagers, parents, foreigners and other categories, but would not allow a men's forum. Even most men on these boards were opposed to the idea. The reason usually is "It's not necessary". This is part and parcel of the notion that is drilled into people's minds that men do not have problems or issues and, in fact, all of the world's problems are their fault in the first place.

Responses like yours, BA, indicate that you're wholly unaware of just how frequently men do indeed post their problems and issues up for all to see here. Just look through the main Lounge. Look here in Feedback. Look through Sexuality and Relationships. Look in Experiences. Look in Politics.
I stand by the facts, which are that this entire forum is a men's forum, with women the much smaller minority. You can, as you often do, choose to see this as an anti-men or male problem-minimization thing. To your way of thinking, men are always being disounted or minimized, and perhaps that's been your personal experience. But if you look again at these boards, you'll see that for every five posts by men and/or boys about their circumstances, issues or experiences, there's one post by a woman or girl.
Maybe you ought to go create yourself a men's forum where people will let you get away with saying things like "This is part and parcel of the notion that is drilled into men's minds that they do not have problems or issues and, in fact, all of the world's problems are their fault to begin with."
I suspect you believe that that "notion" is one promulgated by women, whom you repeatedly characterize as male persecuters. The sociological and cultural truth, however, is that men themselves suppress the showing of emotions and feelings or the free airing of their problems and pass that macho tradition down from generation to generation because of their own expectations of themselves. I can see that first hand in how my father-in-law raised my husband, and how Dave, in turn, is raising our son. We women would love it if y'all acknowledged problems and more openly experessed your emotions and didn't somehow seem to feel like you bear the burden of the world's problems on your shoulders since you're the chief achievers, leaders, movers and shakers of the world.

Men are shameless. We don't need a header or banner that says "Men's issues" for use to ask a question. If a question pops into a guy's head and they feel like posting it, they will regardless of the name of the forum.

Okay fellas, if you really want a forum all to yourselves then JUST ASK FOR ONE LIKE THE LADIES DID-
instead of acting like a whining bunch of babies-
nobody said you can't have your own clubhouse with "no wimin alowed" tacked to the front door
so ask a mod nicely and you might get one
sheesh, bg how do you maintain such calm in the face of these shit-stirrers :D

The reason we don't have a mens issues forum, is because most men believe that discussing male issues makes you gay.
-
Women's Issues forum....no Men's Issues forum
3/4 of the sexuallity forum is about mens issues. As far as a true "womens forum", right now I really don't see it since there are so many men that feel the need to post in there for some odd reason.
Have a good one!

Now you can side with folks like Birdie and say this message board is a guys only message board and that the girls need their own little 'special' place, or you could enforce the equality stuff and give us boys a place to post our problems. I'm sure it will be used.
Nobody--ANYBODY--said that women have greater problems than men. We don't. I'm convinced men have greater problems. You have higher stress levels. You're the more frequent Type A-drivers. You certainly have higher rates of disease and earlier mortality. You even have higher infant mortality. I discuss health because all the other stuff in your lives such as feeling you have to be the breadwinners, leaders, and problem-solvers of the world are what detrimentally affect your health. The reason a women's forum was created was because, as I said earlier, when women discussed personal issues, which men do freely and without hesitation all over these boards, they were getting unsolicited ridicule and disdainful comments. Guys, it appears, were uncomfortable when women talked about the fact that we have periods.
"Side with folks like Birdie"? There is no "taking-sides" involved in what I'm saying. The people with good sense and comprehending eyes can see that men post their problems all over these boards. Even on the Women's Issues sub-forum, interestingly.

Because, fortunately, the vast majority of them aren't shit-stirrers! And even the ones who are are immensely entertaining. I always get a kick out of our resident "masculinists." Plus it helps that I live with two secure, women-loving men and was raised by yet another, all three of whom are these wonderful, strong, successful, uniquely driven, alien, less-emotional creatures but possessing complementary traits I'm not sure I could survive without. (Or would ever want to try.)

Hehe Im going to take that one step further and say that youre right, thats why we dont have one.. and the reason we dont NEED a mens forum is because I dont see any women making immature comments when guys post their male-related problems. And I think thats the real reason right there.
We just dont need one.
Wait wait wait... its the men that dont need one... maybe there should be a BOYS forum though... now THAT might help some things out. It would probably be more of a "time-out" though :P All the boys that make immature comments can be restricted to only viewing and posting in the Little Boys Forum for a day or a week hahahaha

Why not, we have some issues..I see plenty of only men threads in the sexuality forum.
-

It was asked before, I believe the response was that it wasn't necessary because there are a lot more women's issues then men's. I think you're right, but I could go either way.

Slip, I emailed Greenjeans last night but haven't heard back from the crazy chiquita. *sigh* I miss her.
You fellas are bold enough to discuss all your issues all over the boards... it's all good. The male-specific medical issues can go in medical. You guys are a bit simpler... us chicks get reminded monthly of the trials and tribulations that come with being female... It's nice to have a place to talk about that sort of stuff without some dude chiming in with "ewwww" as we have SO often seen on virtually any thread that deals with periods. Sheesh. It gets O-L-D.

Women's Issues forum....no Men's Issues forum
This question has been asked before on numerous occasions and answered several times, too. I'll try and find you the links to the previous discussions, which I think are in Feedback/Suggestions someplace.
The basic answer is that this entire forum has a 5-to-1 male-to-female membership ratio. It has a slightly lower majority of male mods, but they're still the majority of mods. Plus this site is owned and designed by a guy. So the conclusion is that this whole forum already is a men's issues forum. Men don't hesitate to post their ideas, questions or discussion concerns in any area of the site, as you can see from looking around, but before we had the women's issues forum, when a few women were brave enough to talk about periods and makeup or fashion and one or two other topics, they got flack for having posted "gross" or stupid topics that guys didn't want to read. So we created the ladies room where the rule was that that sort of discussion would be safe and protected from ridicule.
The sad thing is we shouldn't have had to do that, but jokers were indeed voicing their disgust at periods and other women-centered topics. The women's issues area is also looked upon as a subtle but, we hope, helpful, tool in recruiting more women members to the boards.

Woo hooo!! My esteemed colleague FBR not only found the previous discussion but merged these two threads together in the proper forum area so you have your question. R0k, and all the previous discussion, too! That FBR. Smart. Fast. Funny. Wicked. This was why we needed him as a mod. . . .
