Hey all, I need to ask all of you a favour. Whilst it's easy to find information about Cannabis it seem's it's always biased in some shape or form. So I thought Maybe it's best if we the users of it give honest and non biased information about Cannabis. I'd like our most frequent users (including mod's when they have the time) to post some facts. For each positive I want you to post one negative. Nothing silly though. It's our duty as Cannabis users and members of one of the largest communities to hand out this information. Once quite a few have been posted I will update this section here to a potential guide and possibly a sticky in the future! So please, let's make this work and show we are responsible and do understand this plant.
The information can be anything honest, weither it's a better way to smoke it or how it may lead to lung cancer. Links and or proof of your information would be appreciated also.
If a thread like this exsist then fair enough, let me know and I'll request a mod deletes this.

speaking for myself....
some good things about smoking is it helps me remain stable.
i realized a long time ago that i am hyper and impulsive
when im sober i get bored very easily and my thoughts consume me
after smoking a lil bud everything slows down and life is liveable
i can enjoy the small things much more like hearing birds sing
and feeling the wind in my face.i can just be calm and relax and enjoy life
just a few minutes during a hectic day to take a time out really helps
me be a better person.
some not so good things about smoking bud are that yhe damn sack
always runs out.it can be expensive if your use increases and sometimes
if you get stoned too early in the day you get burned out and its hard to move.that kind of kills plans and is a waste of time
compared to all the other methods of escape and recreational intoxicants
smoking bud is the most mellow and harmless of them all
drink one can of beer or smoke one bowl
i bet the beer will have you more altered and feeling unplesant longer
than any bowl could

but it's pricey, illegal, and can make me eat too much.
Although it completely negates the negative side-effects from my meds.

Pros: 98% of the time it helps with my mental illness. I used to have bad insomia as a child, and it helps with that. I used to get night terrors up until I was 14 then I smoked cannabis for the first time, and it was like it was gone overnight. One night I'm screaming in my sleep, the next, I'm not making a sound. I don't even snore. :p
Those are my pros, but when it comes to helping the sick and suffering with deadly illnesses, I think that is def. a pro. Pills can have nasty side effects, I know that, but what I take is nothing compared to what people with crippling illnesses have to take, like 12-20 pills a day. I think it's great that we can reduce the number of pills by only taking 2 or 3, or even 0 pills, and replace it with a naturally growing plant, with no serious side effects. Medicinal use is a great pro over those nasty chemical drugs.
Cons: It can make me sleepy sometimes if I over-smoke. What I mean by that is continuing to smoke when I'm already high, which is pointless. It costs money, a lot of money, but I'm willing to set aside $200 every few months for a nice sack of smoke.
It slows my mind down big time, so if I'm doing something that requires a lot of brain power, or if I'm learning a new job at work, then smoking is out of the question. I don't retain anything thsat I have to learn while high. It makes learning fun, but there is fun learning and serious learning.
EDIT: www.cannabisculture.com has lots of amazing medical info and growing info. It's a magazine based out of Canada.
There is also another one out there called Cannabis Health magazine, also Canadian and is free at the headshop here. It focuses directly on medical uses of cannabis.

pros: it seems to cure many minor medical ailments and provide pain relief for those with major medical issues, it also is known to help psychological things like anxiety and stress, and is said to enhance creativity by many artists
cons: it's not legal and there are many vague and poorly written laws related to it, and it's not free

The central issue is not the inherent properties of weed. It might be interesting to discuss how people personally respond to it, but the issue is people themselves. It's better to know yourself and how you function than it is to worry about the exact nature of a foreign substance.
Someone curious about pot may read about adverse effects that someone had and enlist that info as universally true, perhaps alienating any benefits that could have been received from responsible use. Most of the time, unpleasant side effects of pot are merely a result of overindulgence. I don't believe nature intended us to be stoned all the time.
MJ has uniqueness, but for the sake of my point, you can pretty much lump it into the same category of all psychoactive substances. One can spend time and energy dissecting intrinsic values of each substance, or trust what their own body tells them about that substance after moderate consumption. There are way too many personal psychological variables to establish one set of expectations from any drug.
I hope that the primary effort of the cannabis enthusiast will be to advocate everyone's right to be his/her own steward of what goes into the body, rather than officially considering the default good and bad aspects of a drug, which is no better than the pharmaceutical commercials.

pro: it makes sitting around the house doing nothing seem OK
con: that's called amotivational syndrome and can be a problem
pro: sometimes weed can inspire people creatively
con: can't remember what they were going to write/say/draw/paint/etc
pro: can stimulate appetite in sick people
con: munchies usually consist of cravings for the most unusual or least healthy foods
pro: illegal and therefore not chemically altered and tainted by tobacco companies
con: illegal and therefore possession leads to jail time
pro: euphoria while high
con: burn out after coming down (if you come down that is)
pro: ^slows Alzheimer's development in old people, making them less senile as they age
con: speeds brain deterioration in young people smoking too much
OK I'm to the point I have to start thinking about it. I don't like thinking; gives me a headache. Maybe I'll come up with some more in due time.

Weed makes some people think it is the cure for everything, when it's not. Weed gets you stoned, period, end of story. Sure there are some health benfits, but much more health risks involved in smoking marijuana. It's worse than cig's, probably just as bad as being an alcoholic if you toke like one drinks minus the domestic violence and appearances on COPS.
Weed is just another vice for humans to partake in. That's why we are human we seek out pleasure, if weed makes ya happy, smoke it. But don't be naive about it or what your doing.

Well.........Bucknuts.....
I think you are very confused if you think mj is worse than cigs and as bad as alcohol. Do you have anything to back up those absurd statements?
Have you ever been an alcoholic? I have, and beg to differ with your assessment of the relative harm. Have you ever been addicted to nicotine? I have, and I surely think you are mistaken again.
But my experiences are only a few of the millions of others through the years which would prove your claims to be incorrect.
Opinions are worth very little if they are based on false assumptions.
Keep reading and learning, dear. You are correct in stating that marijuana is not a panacea, but at the very least it is certainly less harmful to the body and soul than cigarettes and alcohol!

LOL - I'm not sure you have any idea what your talking about.
Research is amazing, you can learn all sorts - i suggest you try doing some, because saying "It's worse than cig's, probably just as bad as being an alcoholic" signifies to me, at least, that you dont actually know a great deal about cannabis at all. It's as though you've been sucking in all the bullshit the government try and force upon us.

well the pros are obvious but there are some cons that i have come to realize especially lately.
I do feel that smoking makes me a less energetic person and when i smoke i would definetly rather just chill than try and get things done.
Also it seems to slightly change my perception on what is said and what is really meant, this seems to cause so problems but other than that, and that its illegal where im at, there isnt much "wrong" with it.

You're right, it isn't a cure, and medicine isn't meant to cure anything. Medicine is there aid people and relieve their pain, not cure it. I take prescription drugs that I need, but it doesn't cure my mental illness permanatly, it just relieves it, my suffering.
The same goes with cold and flu medicines and headache pills. They don't cure anything, they just relieve it.
And no, if you did some research, you would see that tobacco KILLS 200,000 people in Canada alone, much, much more in the US.
There has never been a reported death due to cannabis, or serious long term effects, and has never been linked to cancer
Alcohol on the other hand causes addiction, liver deseise, heart desease and does a really bad number on your kidney's, liver and you're brain. It kills off braincells faster than you can blink.
Do some research junior. Read some real facts, not media and government propaganda.
Cannabis has 0 reported deaths in all it's history.
Tobacco-200,000 in Canada, and I'm guessing about 500,000 in the States, a year
Just because tobacco and alcohol are legal, doesn't make them safer than something that is illegal.
Read some facts and turn off the TV. You might learn something. :)

The pros of cannabis vastly outweigh the cons when you look at the substance itself. However, the cons far outweigh the pros when regarding the laws of cannabis. Except in the Netherlands...
