Look at what I found!

I was sharing a house with someone and he skipped town last week (conveniently right before rent). Anyway, he took all of his stuff and apparently abandoned the closet below without cluing me in! They're on a timer set to 12/12, and the buds look nice, but they were dry as a mofo, so I gave them a healthy watering! I have no details on them other than it's a nice closet setup with an intake fan, exhaust fan, six big CFL's, a mini dehumidifier and a digital thermometer! I'm going to go pickup a microscope to get an idea of how far along they are... (I've grown with little success years ago, so i know a little bit) each is about 3 feet tall with a bunch of nice bud sites! Happy times!

You must not have hung out too much in that area of the house then, to not notice it......unless he's got some kind of odor control. Might want to make sure thats not why your mate skipped out on you. Fuckin' nice though. How are those trich's lookin'?

those look nice you might want to pick up some mylar (reflective material) and put it on the walls it will help

he's a douche... he started with me over rent $ because his business wasn't doing too well, even though i know he had more than enough to cover rent... anyway, i go away for the weekend come back and all of shit is gone and his cell has been off all week. i don't know if he plans on coming back for these or not, but i'm keeping them! i need something to ease the pain of having to come up with an extra grand for rent!

He paid for the garage, which is where this box is, and i never used to go in there. Thereâ??s some sort of filter material over the vent holes, i guess itâ??s working a little bit, but when I opened the garage door I knew the smell all too well! From what I can see the trichs are lookin good and starting to brown, but I wonâ??t know for sure how far along things are till I get a microscope. (Iâ??m picking one up tonight)

Did he have a garage door opener (assuming you have one on the door)? Did he have key's to the house? If so for either or both, maybe you want to do something about that. Either change the locks and/or disable the motor on the garage door. You don't want this cheap ass freeloading coming back to claim his plant in the middle of the night when you're asleep. Especially if you nurse this thing until harvest or so.

Anyways, great find, good luck with it. And you never know. He might have felt bad about skipping out on you and decided to leave a present behind for you to ease the pain of dealing with his shit. But anyways, yeah, enjoy the harvest when it comes :thumbsup:

If it was me I;d have harvested them (even if not quite finished) and taken them with me.....Wouldn't be leaving the entire setup and almost ready plants behind.

Course....I wouldn't skip out on my roomate either so there you go. :D

well, i just picked up one of those radioshack $10 pocket microscopes... the trichomes are the slightest bit hazy on one plant and clear on the other... guess i'll just keep monitoring them and reading this site to see what i can/should do... unfortunately i think i found his "ingredients", that being a gig bag of miracle-gro potting soil and miracle-gro tomato nutes, if that's all that was used i'd say it worked well, but i have no friggin idea how much they were fed and when... i'm thinking my best bet would be to use ph balanced water for the remainder of the grow... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! and thanks for the comments thus far, i know how much noobs can blow, but i had to jump right in with this "issue" of mine! ;)

oh and AR15; security is pretty tight on the garage, although i will be changing the locks soon if i don't hear back from him in the next day or two, as he didn't leave his keys behind and waiting for a surprise visit isn't fun! i might move the box into the main house that he doesn't have access to at all, it's just one of those target/ikea wardrobes, so moving it won't be a problem! i have to protect MY girls now! :D

Nice. If the trich's are starting to haze/brown, just h2o is the way to go. If I were you, I'd change those locks/move that inside ASAP, just for the principal of it. He was growing in (presumably) your house, in your garage (sounds like you were the primary renter)......if he had gotten caught, wouldn't you be liable too? If so, I'd be pissed, and I'd DEFINATELY claim those plants as my own.

And WOW if he was using miracle-gro ferts/soil.

hmmm... that's the growth patter for sure! i REALLY looked them over today and one plant is really looking good, the other looks good too, but it doesn't excite me as much as the other. ;) the main cola on one is about the size of a small womans forearm and the 8 or so secondary tops are the size of... umm... i dunno... a medium sized penis?! i dunno... they look good though! :D although i must say as attached to them as i'm getting i'd rather have the rent money! anyway, thanks for the input! :jointsmile:

i have a couple of questions if anyone can help... apparently this setup has worked thus far, but i'm wondering if i should make some improvements now that it's my baby... i'm wondering about circulation and ventilation... there's a 4" fan on the side of the box pulling in air and a 3'' fan at the top of the box sucking out air. i attached a filter to the top of the box this weekend and surprisingly the 3" fan is pushing the air through it. however i'm wondering if it would be wiser to swap fans and add a small oscillating fan inside the box?! does this sound wise or should i just leave it be? thanks!

...decided to remove a few of the really large fan leaves. i know some are against this, but tucking them away wasn't really working, as the fan kept making them pop back up and they were completely shadowing the bud sites. thankfully it worked, within a matter of hours both plants seemed stronger, the stems holding the buds were now standing erect and the leaves were more lively. hopefully it helps give them a little more body during the next few weeks before they get cut down.

If you are watering your plants regularly, they won't need the fan leaves.
The plant uses the fan leaves to store water for dry times.
No dry times = no need for fan leaves.

it seems to have considerably helped the humidity in the box too! i think the next couple of weeks are going to see some nice gains!

The large leaves are there to photosynthesize, removing fan leaves will lower yield and stress the plant which is the last thing you want to do when flowering.

that's what i'm thinking... not to mention the plants are responding great to the increased light exposure, so i'm not worried at all. :thumbsup:

i should also mention that I didn't go crazy with the trimming of the fan leaves. i just cut what i felt was necessary to open the plant up to more light penetration.

In this case he's using compact fluorescent lights, which are not known for their penetration.
Every leaf contributes to photosynthesis, so removing the large fan leaves that block the light will actually increase the light penetration (lux) to the rest of the leaves, thereby increasing overall photosynthesis.
Also, water and nutrient uptake to the buds will be increased as the plant will no longer be sending it to the leaves.
Of course it is possible to remove too many leaves and slow the growth of the plant, but he seems to have it well under control. A little stress is actually good for the plant once in a while. It increases plant vigor, which means more trichome production (and isn't that what we all really want?).

i don't think i mentioned this, but upon finding them i took some clones from the better looking plant of the two right away. i knew about cloning from years ago, but i never tried it before. anyway, they all rooted well and at two weeks they're starting to out grow the enclosure they're planted in! i'll do some research on here tonight, but does anyone know how long you can keep a clone in a confined little enclosure before they start to revolt?

LOL - Looks like you've been bitten by the bug.

Once they get roots, the clones will be hardy little plants. You can get them a little crowded laterally, but you will need to either top them or give them the room they need for verticle growth. Also keep in mind that the roots are growing faster than the plants at this point and you don't want them to get root bound.
