So what do you all think about the new birth control pills that eliminate your period? I was considering it, but it just doesn't seem right. All the doctors are saying they're safe, but I just don't know. It sounds very convenient, but how do we know there will be no long term effects? And if so, what they would be? Let me know what you think.
I dont know anything about it at all, but Ive always said that having no period at all doesnt seem very healthy. Hopefully there are no long-term side effects though!
I distrust them.
I'm no doctor, but I have always had the impression that a woman's body needs those hormonal cycles to be healthy, and that not having a period due to excessive exercise, eating disorders, or menopause was associated with a decrease in bone density...
Fuck that, I'll stick with something that doesn't screw up my hormones. Condoms or an IUD.
I'm nervous about them. It just doesnt seem right to not have one. Besides, how would you know if you were pregnant or not if you werent expecting a period already?
^^glad Im not the only one that feels that way. I dont trust that shit at all to be honest. Even Ortho... my ex took that shit the whole 4 years we dated and an additional year before that and her hormones were ALL fucked up.
Yup my shrink actually was like NO ORTHO FOR YOU GIRL. lol it's a bad sign when your fucking THERAPIST has a negative opinion of your birth control...
I'm glad others agree having no period is not natural. All the girls they show on the news say "it's just great!" Well I started this for a different type of pill, but now I'm questioning my regular pills, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I have always been on pills with the excepting of a few months on Nuva Ring, but it was too expensive with no med insurance. I don't have any difficulty with these pills, and have heard they prevent certain types of cancer. It is just the easiest, least expensive method for me. When you say it messes up horomones, in what way? Like mood swings, or something medically wrong with her body?
I was told to stop because it was making it very hard to treat my anxiety, when for a few days a month I would then swing into an unusual depression. Off the Ortho, the mood swings are MUCH less of a problem, usually almost unnoticeable. It was directly related to the pills.
I would avoid the other pills that stop your period for the reasons I listed above, whether or not any studies have conclusively linked them yet. It sketches me out.
Her problem was that she would forget to take pills (and for a while purposefully avoid...) then double up on them and shit so she was doing it to herself. Not to mention switching from Ortho Hi to Ortho Lo and back up again... it was just one large clusterfuck. So most likely all the negative side effects associated with it such as mood swings and such were magnified. I put up with alot of bullshit, but the way I look at it: at least I didnt get the cheating bitch pregnant :pQuote:

My doctor says there's a lot of fear of those no-period Pills but that there's no law that says a woman has to have a period every month. We don't have them during our childhood, during pregnancy, or after menopause, and it's perfectly safe not to have them during our fertile years, too. The thing with the hormones in the no-period Pills is that they prevent the endometrium build-up from occurrring in the first place, just as they trick the body into not ovulating, so it's not like months and months of back-logged periods are building up in our bodies. We're just all accustomed to that predictable monthly cycle and feel like we wouldn't be as healthy without it.
That being said, I'm with Powair on the wait-and-see idea. Some of these newer Pills are so new that there's not yet enough data on them, and she's right that many of them can cause dangerous side-effects, such as blood clots. That new one called Yasmin, for instance, (it contains the lowest dose of hormones of any Pill on the market, I believe) can cause real problems for people with kidney/adrenal or liver disease because of the synthetic progestin it contains.
I took the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for years. And then I lived dangerously for a good many years and took nothing. Then this past spring, Dave very generously had his network surgically disconnected. It's nice not to have to take anything now or feel slightly frightened toward the end of each monthly cycle.
