Has Anyone Else tried Chantix?
I'm using this stuff to quit smoking cigarettes and am completely blown away (no pun intended) by how well it works. I've smoked for 25 years, several packs a day, and really am amazed by this stuff. Has anyone else used it to quit smoking (tobacco) wiith and how did it work for you?

I've never even heard of it. What is it?

I hadn't either....my doc mentioned it to me. Its a tablet to help you quit smoking...so far it's worked great for me. Made by pfizer. Supposed to attach to the nicotine recepters and reduce the cravings and I'm surprised that it really seems to do this pretty well. :)

I need to get me that... you can just buy it at the drug store? Or does it have to be prescribed to you

It has to be prescribed but if you want to quit smoking I've tried then all....gum, patches, etc....this REALLY helps..I recommend it HIGHLY

Here's the link for anyone who is interested....I'm extremely hard to impress but am very impressed by this medication (so far....knock on wood.....) :)
Chantix
Has Anyone Else tried Chantix?
i 2nd that : )
i started taking it last october and quit late november, i had been a smoker for like 15 years, i also tried everything , gum, patches, herbal cigs, the other pill (zyban)
none worked
BUT CHANTIX KICKS A$$
i used to roll my own cigs i found roll your own cigarettes not only cheaper but cleaner (less additives)
so after a month or so of the chantix i started noticing things
every nite i used to roll a joint and a cigarette right before dinner.
that way i would have them for right after : )
then i wouldi ---- eat --- smoke the joint ---- smoke the cigarette
in that order /\ every nite
but after the chantix i would eat --- smoke the joint --- and forget about the cigarette
for like 5 nites in a row i would sit there and an hour later notice i hadnt even smoked the cigarette : ) forgot all about it : )
thats when i just QUIT because by that time it was easy
ONE THING I ALMOST FORGOT
eat with them!
if i took a chantix on an empty stomach i would get WAY sick but as long as i had some food in me even 2 slices of toast i would be OK

So you took it for about a month before you quit? I've been on it about 3 weeks and have some days when I don't smoke (which is very amazing in itself frankly) but have a few days when I really want one. What made you decide to start taking it?
Has Anyone Else tried Chantix?
yeah probably 5 weeks total.
once you get to the point of going a full day without one your probably ready (or almost) to just take the leap and quit.
on those days where you go all day with out, is it easy yet or are you still fighting it to not smoke?
if its pretty easy then you are ready if its still kind of hard give it another week or 2.
also one other thing that helped me
i got some shwag/mex/dirtweed whatever you want to call it (the cheap stuff)
i would take it and roll it up into pinners with thick cigarette papers like top's
then i would smoke the crappy thick paper joints when ever i wanted a cigarette like after eating : )
and if i hit it not like a joint but like i would hit a cigarette it kind of tricked my mind into thinking i had just smoked a cigarette

So the longer you take it the easier it gets? I'm still fighting some parts of the day. I have gone several days without a cig (amazing...a miracle imo) but it is a fight part of the time.....and gets tiring.
I do try that...taking a hit of ganja instead and it does help I think....the act of inhaling blah blah when you really want to hit that ciggie. And it relaxes me too. :)
Thanks for your advice. How long have you not smoked now and how long did you take the meds for?

i quit around november and havent smokes at all after that............. well sort of : )
i did cheat a few times after i quit taking the pills.
like when i was out fishing at the lake, drunk watching my friends smoke, but that was like twice and i didnt start back up afterwards

i really think there is something to the thick parers too though, i think half of the additive stuff in cigs comes from the cig-papers. they dont test the papers like they do the tobacco so thats where they hide the really addictive chemicals IMO
so i think its a bit more easy to quit the tobacco first while still smoking the thick papers with my weed, then phase out the papers after the tobacco habit is history

So you are saying you do not use the thin ones like zig zags? What kind of paper do you use?

exactly : )
top is one brand thats pretty easy to find or bugler.
i prefer a zigzag for weed but when im using weed as a substitute for a cigarette the thick papers like "top" work much better

Totally cool, I will get some. Thanks alot for the tips.....everything helps. :) I feel better knowing it took you awhile to quit all the way as well so that really relieves my mind. :stoned: I felt as though I had to do it the first week or I'd be lost like so many other things I've tried.....slip once and it seems like the patches and gums just don't help anymore at all! Like you say, going 24 hrs can be done and it IS getting easier....easier than I thought quitting would be.
Thanks for the pep talk.

yeah it has to build up in your system, good thing about that is after you quit smoking and then quit the pills the residual effect of the pills stays with you for a month or so

Chantix works well while you are on it, but studies show that once patients stop taking Chantix, their relapse rates are similar to people that used the patch or gum to quit.
Cold turkey is still the most effective quit-smoking method for tobacco.
