Starting my first Indoor Grow!
hey everyone. I just started my first indoor growing system last week. I am using a hydrofarm 160 watt vegetative bulb, foxfarm organic soil, and some kick ass nutrients called "Heavy Harvest: Advanced Nutrients" (this shit rocks!! also growing 6 outdoor:4 neville's haze, 1 blueberry, and 1 big bud using this stuff. Beefy ass stems! will post pics within the next few days). In my indoor system i am growing 2 Blueberry plants and 1 Neville's Haze. i am also germinating 1 more blueberry as we speak. :) I will post pics for the indoor newbies either tomorrow or the day after, along with the beefy outdoor plants (the 4 neville's haze are looking to be around 7 feet at finish)!!!!!!

Here's a follow up to my post showing the 6 outdoor plants that i have going right now. picture 1 shows a female Big Bud plants that is around 5 feet tall at the moment :)! picture 2 shows a female Neville's Haze plant that is around 5 1/2 feet. Picture 3 shows a overshot of the 4 outdoor plants (picture 1 and 2 along with 2 other neville's haze which sex has not been determined. one of the undetermined plants is 6 feet tall!!!) at location 1. picture 4 shows a 4 feet tall blueberry plant that is a male:mad:!!! picture 5 shows a small Big bug plant whose sex is still undetermined. overall 2/4 at location 1 with females. the other 2 are still waiting to be determined. At location 2 the blueberry plant that i have been drooling over has showed to pesky lil flowers which i have come to hate. the other small big bud plant is undetermined so im debating if i will let the blueberry pollinate the big bud if its a female:D overall good showing. :rastasmoke:

Starting my first Indoor Grow!
i have finally got around to taking some pictures of my indoor closet grow. picture 1 on the top left is an overshot of the four plants i have growing (3 blueberry, 1 big bud). picture 2 in the middle of the top row shows a small blueberry plant about 2 weeks old. picture 3 shows a large 4 week old blueberry plant. picture 4 on the bottom left is a 3 week old big bud plant. my height restricitions in the closet is about 6 feet by 3 feet so ill be looking to get some moderate size plants. i also just receieved some low ryder 2 seeds so i might use them in the next grow!!:) also came across a nice cross between mango and purple:D very fruity and sweet aroma. trying to get some seeds of that cross.

You could always build your own. Hope that helps.
Nice looking plants btw, good luck

Starting my first Indoor Grow!
ill post some more pictures within the next few days of the outdoor and indoor plants. how are flourescent lights when it comes to developing buds. i have a 400 watt hps system but that things creates hell on earth and im afraid that it will get way too hot in my grow area. not to mention the cost to run that thing. right now im still using the hydrofarm 120 watt flor. light and 2 2' foot cool flourescent lights as supplemental lighting. any suggestions?

Starting my first Indoor Grow!
will i be fine budding the plants with the flourescent lights? pics coming tomorrow around 1pm:thumbsup:

Starting my first Indoor Grow!
here are some updated pictures of the indoor grow!
picture 1-2(top left and top middle) are pictures of a blueberry plant. Picture 3 (top right) is a picture of another smaller blueberry plant. picture 4 (bottom left) is an overshot of all 4 plants. Picture 5 (bottom right) is a close up of a smaller big bud plant. So far the plants are about 4-5 weeks into vegetative stage. The large blueberry plant is very healthy and starting to get very purplish stems. i am going to continue vegetating for another 2-3 weeks and will flower with a 400 watt hps system on a 12/12 cycle. i am aiming to harvest around mid september. :rastasmoke: yahhh mahnnn!

any suggestions on lighting to optimize bud density?
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
...the 400 HPS will grow some serious buds ...if you can control the heat...I use a/c..blowing between top of plants and the light...75-85 degrees is best...:pimp:....
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
the onyl thing about an a/c is they are pricey to run and expensive to buy. i wonder if a downgrade to 250 watts would make a difference.
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
What you feeding them on at the mo? :)
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
its called advanced nutrients:heavy harvest. there are three different cycles (spring, summer, and march) that feed to plants. im using these for the indoor plants as well with the outdoor ones. the outdoor plants are around 6-7 feet so far and have just recently started showing signs of male/female. i will attach some updated pics of the outdoor grow soon. here is the link for the nuts im using: https://www.advancednutrients.com/ca...FQQRYwod9zKl6Q

i need some advice. i was reading up on lighting and came across a few sites that said in order to harvest "good" marijuana you need to provide around 45,000 lumens. right now i am using only about 12,000 lumens. i'm aiming to get very dense buds. i was also debating about downgrading from a 400 hps system to 250 hps system to flower so there would not be such a drastic increase in temperature and electricity usage. right now my electricity bill is around $50 a month including the lighting of the plants (currently using about 200 watts for lighting right now). if i use the 400 watt hps system will i have to buy an air conditioning unit or is there any other way to reduce the temperature without purchasing an a/c. please give advice!!!:(

good ventilation and fans? right, an ac and a 400 might make a jump in the bill but i dont know how much. use the 400 if at all possible. what is the length/width of the closet? it might be better to get a 250 but what is the area that you have?
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
im currently growing in the closet but have a spare bedroom available to grow in. the dimension of the closets is about 10 feet high by 3 feet wide by 4 feet long. the dimensions of the spare room is about 12 feet by 15 feet.
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
first, if you are already using 200w for lighting a 250 wouldnt make a diff in the cost but would be alot better, and a 400w would be twice the cost to run the lights. my 150w and fan only made a difference of about 5$ a month. so if you figure the numbers out it would only make about 10$ difference than what you are paying. other people say around 50w per sq ft to grow plants but i have read that it can be as low as 30w per sq ft and still get good solid budding. i did mine right in the middle, 40w's, thats why i asked the size of your space. if your 400 does get too hot all i can say is good ventilation and air movement. your closet should hold your 4 plants and the 400 light easily enough. otherwise use your spare room, sorry im not being more help it just seems that you can do it in a closet of that size without to much trouble. especially if you are going to get a fan and carbon filter, exhaust it into your spare room instead of letting it run inside of the closet.

thanks alot for the help! i think ill try the 400 watt and see how it goes.

Starting my first Indoor Grow!
how much of a rise in temp. should i expect by running this thing 12/12 during the day?
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
anyone know what the rise in temp will be if i leave open the window in my grow room and open the top door that leads into the attic and use a large fan to circulate the air?
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
also very bummed out:( the large blueberry plant (shown in the indoor grow pics in the middle of the overshot) turned male. i still have 3 other plants but they are still much smaller than the male. i chopped em down today and started LST the others. will include pics within 24 hours:wtf:
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
i cant really say about the rise in temps with your 400w but two different posts here mentioned that they had an 8 deg rise in temps in their closet/boxes with the light. it depends, will opening the window let in hotter air than what you have in the room? it sounds like a good idea to open your attic door since heat rises. hope this helps. i cant really be specific about this because my light is smaller, most of this i just found out buy reading others posts and magazines. sorry about your BB. sometimes seeds are good.
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
thanks alot man. that really helps me out. i've been slacking off posting pics so i will have some up soon. The LST is going very well!
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
here are the recent pics of my last 3 plants using LST. the top left pic is an overshot of the three plants. i will continue to veg for another 2 weeks and will flower with a 250 hps system. im debating on using either a large 125 cfl flower bulb or large 125 cfl veg bulb as supplemental lighting. which one should i go with as the supplemental lighting (the veg or flower bulb)? :)
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
whats the best way to optimize LST? should i trim the lower fan leaves or leave them alone until i flower?
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
One small piece of advice from reading your post. You want big rewards (I want "dense buds") then HID lighting, electrical bills, and ventilation and cooling will be the price you have to pay. If you skimp now it will definitely show up at the end.......when it's too late to fix. ;)
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
yea. the price to pay for some home grown chronic haha. thanks for the input

I think it's Sun that is now putting out a dual-bulb fixture (MH & HPS), which would essentially be the same, spectrum wise, as if you used your HPS with the veg cfl. Sun probably has some research and related propaganda available explaining why this is a good thing.

sounds interesting! ill look into it. thanks

Starting my first Indoor Grow!
hey, that sounds liek a pretty big closet, i think the best thing for you to do would be to vent all the hot air into your attic, and that should be able to keep the temps down. also, do you already have the 400 watt HPS, or are you wondering which one you should buy? if your gunna buy one, and your still worried about temps, then just get a 250 watt, you only have 3 plants. and also, i think it was said earlier, but dont bother buying a carbon filter, just make one yourself with some panty hose chicken wire and cat littler...id never buy one now that i know how easy they are to make...
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
it seems pretty easy to make. where can you buy the activated carbon?
-
Starting my first Indoor Grow!
I got a freind with same size closet. He tryed the 400w MH/HPS and got too hot. He ended up with the Cool tube system. Bulb sit in a glass tube and you duct 4 inch tube in and out with an inline 4inch fan. you loose a little lummens but temps were controlled. I just searched it on ebay (Cool Tube) If your out of options,, Good luck

google activated carbon for an online source or you can get it from the pet store for fish tanks, but i think its pretty expensive that way.
