First grow :) Have a look...

Hello everyone, this is my first grow ever and I just wanted to post it to try to get a couple of answers.
First off I'm not quite sure what kind of system it is, I think it is NFT hybrid or something and I have a 400w MH light on them right now. They are approximately 25 days old from the time the sprouts came up and I'm not sure the type of plant (my friend just gave me a bag of seeds). Right now the average room temp is 77 and reservoir temp is from 68-74 with 45% humidity. The pH right now is 5.5 and the ppm is 375 but a few days ago it was 415(to mention later) and I'm using R/O water too. Right now I have the lights on 18/6 and have a timer running the pump 15 minutes every 3 hours. I'm currently using firefox three part nutes and thinking about get some calmag plus. Now to the problem... some of the plants seem to be a little bit light green and one has a leave curling down and turning yellow with brown spots... then probably half of them have these brown spots here and there on the fan leaves and these are the best pics I could get. O and one more thing some of the new leaves that are developing are missing part of the leaf.

Hey, so I'm guessing I have a magnesium deficiency :( so I just bought some calmag plus and whipped up a new batch of nutrients at 500 ppm because half of the plant look fine. The pH is still at 5.5 and I recalibrated my pH tester today and it was .8 pH off so that might have been my problem too... I took some more pics :cool:

ppms a little high for that age. 225 sounds abouyt right . 225 at time of mix . top off with phed water . monitor ppms .

OK will do, ill add some more pH water to bring it down. I was also wondering at what height i should set it to 12/12 because i only have 3" pots and i dont want them to outgrow them. I've heard around 12" high and they are about 4" right now... that MH really makes them compact. Thank You for your post :)

375 PPM is to much at 21 days old? Why is this? because of his system? I thought he was starving his plants. My plants just hit day 14 and I put them at PPM of 600+ the calmag and other items on top. I think they are growing well. But maybe it is just the system I have, to why I can get my PPMs this high.

Res Change is tomorrow and I am sending them up to about 900 PPM.

These pictures are about 4 days old. Since then they grw so much I had to raise my lights.

Plants are looking better...except the parts that have been affected, but the new growth looks just fine... I think it was a combination of problems but I think it was a salt buildup on the rockwool so I just flushed really well with clearex. I was wondering what I should do with the damaged leaves? Just leave em or chop em? Hey ...gas... I think the green light has to do with my camera or something when I take pics under the MH light, they look better when the light is off :)

Update... Plants new growth still looking good. Some of the roots are turning a little brown so I decided to add some h2o2 to the reservoir and I have a question regarding h2o2. When should I add more to the res, everyday, every other day or only when I change the res. I also saw a small black/brown fly in my grow area and I'm a little concerned about that so I sprayed some organic incest/fungicide just to be safe. I got some new pics today :) The plants are now 32 days old and I'm pretty sure that they have recovered from whatever the illness was... the new growth looks awesome and I got rid of the affected leaves. Right now the pH is 5.57, ec 912, ppm 457, and res. temp is 70.9F. Room temp is 77F and humidity is 42%. I tried foliar feeding them and I think it has helped some... ive also been able to convert the system into an ebb and flow by putting coins over the drainage holes and letting it fill up. I do this about twice a day 6 hours apart along with the regular spray every 3 hours. I was also thinking that I could turn it into a dwc system by raising the drainage pipes height into the system thus allowing it to fill up and then fall back to the reservoir. Then just put some airstones in the four trays :) I think that could work out. What do you guys think?

Here are the plants as of today :) Tomorrow will be the first day that I switch them to 12/12 and put the HPS on... It will be exactly 6 weeks since the sprouts broke the surface and about a week since I trimmed the tops. I mixed up a new batch of nutrients to help them flower quicker and I can't wait to see which ones are female. I have 14 plants as of right now so I'm praying that I at least get 7 little ladies... ill be sad if I get less :( The pH is 5.8/980 ppm and I was wondering if the ppm sounds alright?

You set up is SiCk for a first grow... I take of my hat to you... and if your a woman I'll take off the rest tooo....

You should get the dankest pukka come harvest time... Everything looks really good. If you worked with cuttings then you'd know for sure that their are no dudes lurking around the garden.

Great solution to the problem with NFT: for nutrient to flow over the roots, you've got to have more roots down where the nutrient solution flows!!! A temporary flood/drain conversion was GREAT problem solving.

Your calmag hunch was correct but that looked more like a calcium deficiency.

Green light... wierd, I assumed it was your 'stealth night work light'... plants can't see green, so you can go bother them while they are sleeping by using green light. I hope it's your camera, because the only HID that puts out really green light is mercury vapor, and that is not useful for growing.

Hey Everyone,
Here is an update on the plants :) It has been exactly one week since I put them into flower and I ended up getting........ 7 little ladies :) I'm happy; I guess it really is a 50/50 chance to get a male or female. I think they are filling in nicely, some are looking better than others, but a lot of bud sites. Hey stinkyattic, yea I think you are right that it was green because of my camera, those pics were taken under MH. The color change to HPS was interesting, it was as if there was a mini orange sun in my closet :stoned: And thank you to everyone who has posted... I'm really trying to have a successful first grow, but it is a lot of work and a lot of mistakes to learn from. As for the pictures :D The first one is what the plants looked like four days after I put them into flower and showed signs of sex. The second is after I got rid of the males and the third is them today (day 49). Fourth is the tiny pistils and fifth is some bud sites. Plus some random pics and some troubled leaves...

OoO and I chopped up all the males in a blender and put them into some boiling water and butter for about 45 minutes and bake some cookies with the butter and got really fucked upâ?¦ I hope the ladies are just as good!!!

My weekly update ;) The plants look good except a few minor problems that I can't seem to fix. They haven't died yet because of the problems so I'm just going to run with it. They are in their second week of flowering and are 56 days old as of yesterday. I wish I had my good digital camera to get some close ups but you all will have to get by with my camera phone for now. I think a lot of my problems stem from a bad root system in a couple of the plants, but they seem to be growing some bigger roots now that I made sure no light makes it into the grow trays. Some of the symptoms are wilting new leaves at the bottom of the plant and a couple of old fan leaves turning yellow. The top bud sites look excellent and show no signs of any problem. Anything will be helpful :stoned:

Nice! Those ladies branched out, and are filling the space with Buds.

Very pleasing results so far!!! We know it isn't easy, but stick in there and you'll be over the moon with ur pukka harvest
