Bush eyes Blair for Mideast peace role
WASHINGTON - President Bush has talked with British Prime Minister Tony Blair about taking a role as a Middle East peace envoy after he leaves office next week. Assistant Secretary of State David Welch, the State Department's top diplomat for the Middle East, talked with Blair in London on Wednesday, while the White House and State Department spoke glowingly about the prime minister's credentials but said there was nothing to announce yet.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert also expressed support for Blair playing a role in the Middle East.
"Officials in the prime minister's office are aware of this idea and Prime Minister Olmert is very supportive of Prime Minister Blair and of his continuing involvement in the Middle East and the peace process," Israeli government spokeswoman Miri Eisin said.
Blair steps down next Wednesday.
"Obviously Prime Minister Blair has been very active and deeply involved in Middle East peace issues throughout his prime ministership," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said

I tend to stay away from that area just because I do grow........keep things low key and on the hush lets say. Ya just never know who's looking in. With Zandor gone I may have to look in a bit more than before but with people like Stinky around.......I think it's pretty well covered right now. I tip my hat to the lady!!
By the way, sounds like you got a pretty tight grip on the parties over there.....you should start a thread and tell us more about them. I'd be VERY interested in how the system works, etc........

Blair can't even maintain peace in the UK. I'll be anticipating a long stretch for his war crimes in the middle east when he steps down.

What war crimes? Sorry but I'm at a bit of a loss on this issue.

So is Mr Blair. Most of the rest of the democratic populus seem to think that he has blood on his hands though, I think it's to do with the thousands of innocent civilians he collaborated with Bush in slaughtering recently. You might call that collatoral damage, I call it a crime against humanity.
What I can't understand about Gordon Brown just stepping into Blairs shoes is, there are loads of good MP's still in the labour party who hold true to its original socialist values. Why didn't any of them make a challenge to the leadership?

"Intent" is always a key factor in a crime. I dont think that either man had intent to kill civilians in the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. Civilian deaths are a part of war but if the truth were known........I believe that the suicide bombers had a hell of alot more to do with that than either of the leaders mentioned.

You can hardly spray a country with bombs without intending to kill innocent civilians who have nothing to do with terrorism. Everyone knew this would happen, and whatsmore when the civilian casualties started to mount, they carried on bombing. It simply doesn't wash to say that they have impunity here, thousands of people died, way more than in 911. It is still a war crime.

Compare this to previous wars and you'll see that with the precision bombing the civilian death toll is far less. During WW2 for example.....cities such as Bagdad would have been completely whiped out. Remember what Berlin looked like?

I know that in WW2 America completely missed germany once and and razed a 2000 year Dutch city to the ground by mistake.
As wars become less centred around ground troops and more around fighter jets the civilian death toll has risen dramatically.

Very true........but you have to admitt that the civilian death toll dropped due to precision bombing.

I'm not actually a Blair lover, although after living under the conservatives for 18 years, he was a breathe of fresh air back in the late 90's, but i have to say he's probably the right man for the job. He's the perfect diplomat and is a good communicator. Already has hands on experience in the Middle East peace process and helped broker an Historic peace deal in Northern Ireland and let's face it up until Iraq was one of the most popular prime ministers this country has ever had, confirmed by back to back landslide election victories Some of you will choke on my next statement but i also think he is a man of high integrity and truly believes that his support for the Bush administrations 'war on terror' is Right and for our best interests. I'm not banging the drum for Blair here but having lived through the 'Maggie' era i think he is demonised a bit. Now she was a proper B"*TARD and gave me my socialist, (small s), angle on life.So for me yeah ! why not Blair for Middle East peace envoy, it'ill keep him out of the country lol ...don't all shout at once.

Shout? I can't even talk I'm so out of breath from laughing. Yeah, Blair was doing alright up until the war in Iraq, now everyone hates him, especially all the families in Iraq who lost relatives. Once we all realised how much of a Bush sucking two faced lying warmongering capitalist dastard he was...

Blair done his bit in the peace prosses and his backing of the iraq war isnt a problem to me the usa are our allies and they ask for help we should be behind their backs no questions simple as that. for me it was his treating of the royal family especialy the queen after the death of prinsess diana.A lot of brits wont agree with me hear but im a total loyalist im a jock and proud of it but at the end of the day its our queen and he disrespected her badly , he even new this himself and did appoligies but the bad intensoin was there . what some politicians seem to forget she is our queen and thats that and we should show respect weather we want to or not hge would have been hung for that 200 years ago.

Read Captive State by George Monbiot. It is a captivating read on how Blair is selling our public sector off to American capitalists, and of how we stand to lose through failing services and stealth taxes.

Blair is part of the ruling bloodline. Members of that bloodline always play a crucial role on the global scene after leaving office. They never retire and their influence never wanes...

LOL....we accuse ours of selling off to Arab countries. Just a bit ironic if ya ask me. I'll be checking out that book......sounds interesting.
I'd still like to see one of you gents from overseas post a bit more in a new thread regarding your government, how it works, differences between the partys, etc.........

What i hate about Blair is the fact he's a complete twat who's in love with himself. He thinks he's the best leader this country has had since bloody Lionheart. All this traitor has done is gave us a few million more immigrants, higher taxes, political correctness, poverty, terrorism, crime and that upper class gay accent of his.
Good riddance to this moron. I hope he moves off to Texas to be with his playmate Bush. England doesn't want him nor need him.

Do, it's one of my favourite books and written by a very good writer. He wrote it in the style of part narrative, part factual account. It's one book I found extremely hard to put down, and I am not a big reader.
Let me know if Bush has had it banned in your country and I'll send you over a copy ;-)

He's kept interest rates low, inflation low, hospital waiting lists are down (fact), brought in the minimum wage, introduced tax credits for working families, has or is going to abolish the Tory brainchild that was/is the child support agency so it aint all bad news people. By the way we had terrorism on the British mainland for 20 odd years during the 70's and 80's.

OK maybe he has sorted out a bit of peace in Ireland, however now we have Islamic fundamentallists trying to spill our blood as a result of his warmongering.
