my top three ten, and i'd like to point out that my top three REALLY stand above the rest (hence, the bold)
1.) the graduate (1967)
2.) taxi driver (1976)
3.) 2001: a space odyssey (1968)
4.) the good, the bad, and the ugly (1966)
5.) requiem for a dream (2000)
6.) the man who wasn't there (2001)
7.) american beauty (1999)
8.) casablanca (1942)
9.) forrest gump (1994)
10) pulp fiction (1994)
TAXI
CAPE FEAR
too many
Citizen Kane
Some great crime and adventure movies, just off the top of my head:
*White Heat (James Cagney)
*Cape Fear (the original with Robert Mitchum)
*Taxi Driver (R. DeNiro)
*Who'll Stop the Rain (Nick Nolte as a drug smuggler)
*Little Murders (black comedy with Elliot Gould, rarely shown)
*Baby Face Nelson - GREAT 1957 gangster film starring Mickey Rooney, directed by Don Siegel (Dirty Harry) and currently unavailable. One of the best performances on film and impossible to find or see. Used to be shown on TV decades ago.
I'd include a number of others. I just saw one for the first time last night, On Dangerous Ground, that was excellent with Robert Ryan as a brutal cop. The ending was a little mushy, but overall a very good film by Nicholas Ray, who also directed Rebel Without a Cause.
To Have And Have Not (Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall)
Annie Hall (Woodie Allen)
To Kill A Mockingbird (Gregory Peck)
(I could go on and on...... but I won't)
you gotta love a movie where Humphrey Bogart plays a dude named Captain Morgan :DQuote:

The Outsiders, or Gangs of New York. The Outsiders was my favorite for a long time, but once I watched Gangs of New York, I just don't know, it's a tie.
Probably Spaceballs.
Saving Private Ryan is my number 1 and in my top 5 Fight Club.
Rule Number 1: Do not talk about fight club.
Rule Number 2: Do not talk about fight club.
Can't forget about The Wall and Song Remains the Same!
Cabaret, Liza Minnelli 1972
Schindlers List, Liam Neeson 1993
Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland 1939

I believe a movie's core goal, is to draw an emotional response from us, make us think cleary without an emotion... aww fuck it. I'm high.

Comedy: Dumb and Dumber, Major League
Drama: Crimson Tide, A Few Good Men

You seen True Romance and Jackie Brown? They seem to fly under the radar as far as QT movies, not very mainstream, but they're my two favorite QT films not named Pulp Fiction.Quote:

I didn't know that actually. I'm pretty sure I've read all her other books, might be one I'm missing, but I'll definitely have to give that one a read.Quote:
