HPS produce less heat and are more efficient the MH... about 10-15% more lumens per watt.
I dunno about that... I noticed a 6-8 degree change when i first switched from MH to HPS.Quote:

umm i get alot of people saying hps is the way to go when in flower and mh in veg but you choose...
I've noticed the heat is relatively the same.
well i dont know about temps and what not im using cfls...they get pretty hot but what temp should my box be at../???

It also depends on where your ballast is, and what sort of ballast, and if it is good condition- crappy ballasts run hot, it's a fact. Also I am starting to think that an aging bulb that is near the end of its life can cause the ballast to run a little hot... but the bulb I had problems with was 4 years old and should have been retired at 2, lol!
Also I want to say that light in the red spectrum is naturally more heat energy than in the blue... but I'm not any sort of expert and may be talking out my butt...
I believe they are about the same. I think it's just the colour that makes one think in a seasonal sense. I had a 250W MH vegging my NFT system some years back in a confined space. when I switched to HPS, my hygro max/min meter was still giving similar readings...
When I go in the garden, which is illuminated by a total of 3kW of HPS, I feel like throwing some sand on the floor, folding out the deck chair and rolling my trousers up while putting my feet in a bowl of water simulating the sea/beach... The amber throw of the mid summer :)
Happy harvesting
haha funny the beach...i get the hps and mh are pretty similar temps but any1 know of any lighting systems so i dont have to manualy switch my lights on and off...for 12/12 and 18/6..????
I smell a thread jack coming on. ...
Karma, you threadjacker... it's called a timer... they sell them at wal-mart... get a heavy-duty one rated for at least 10% more amps than the ballast and shit says it all draws...
lol karma tried 2 times......keeps temps under 85.........well ik vegged with my mh since 4/15 ans changed from 18/6 to 12/12 with hps yesurday using a mushroom compost soil and pine conditioner mix get my 3 fems...
what is a threadjacker and i did what exactly...???
KArma threadjacking is poor form.
It's when you go on a thread started by another user on a specific topic, and try to change it to your own topic.
You already have your own thread asking about how to stabilize light cycles so leave that subject there. It's just not polite to butt into the equivalent of a different conversation unless you are participating in THAT conversation.
thanks stinky and btw karma its no big deal im not worried about it before i knew about it i wold double post and do all that you just have to have patience and i gaurantee most ?s on here have been asked a million time so try serching 1st then if you dont find it ask.....look now were off topic lol.....i have a mag. ballast but i keep it outside the closet so thats not an issue i just didnt know about the temp changes it did seem to get alittle more humid tho today than it ever got with my mh but i dont see how that could be from the light
ok thnks il keep that in mind and im learnin soo...yea sry u guys...:(
no problem friend.....so im on my 3rd day of 12/12 with hps and hum. is still high i have one little plant in a hydro set up to see if i can do it i didnt want to put all my time into something ive never attempted before so i put a runt in there to see how itd do could that be the reason for the higher hum.
i acctually have a question related this time...my lights are now only 13 cfls 100 ina space prolly 2' by 2' by 4'...and they get hot but i dont think hot enough to burn something but i think they are gona burn my plants how far should my plants be from the light..????and will they burn with all the wattage in such a small space...
CFL's put out very little heat. The intensity of the light is lost very quickly after it leaves the bulb too. CFL's can be literally an inch or two away from the plants. The only problem with having the bulbs so close is allowing the leaves of the plant to touch the bulb. The bulb itself is fairly warm to the touch and will damage the foliage if it starts touching the bulb.Quote:

If you're running an HID system and don't have a thermometer... you're heading the right way for a smack bottom..
Cheers,
Bob.
yea ill move my plants closer to my lights then and ill make sure and tie them with lst before flowering...
