My dad was an exceptional dad, and my husband is an amazing husband. I'm sure the fact that I had a good and loving dad inifluenced my choice of a good and loving husband. Physically, they have similarities, particularly in coloring (dark hair and olive skin) and facial characteristics (handsome), but my dad's about five inches shorter than my husband. I've read in several places that if you're affectionately disposed toward your family, you tend to unconsciously select mates who bear a physical resemblance to them.

My dad wsa a good dad and I am only just really starting to appreciate it.. in fact, now that I am almost 30, he's a better father to me NOW.
It was hard for a kid to figure out that dad didn't leave the family just becasue mom got custody... SHE left and took the family with her.
Not until I came to grips with that did I finally begin to look at my own relationships in a more healthy way, rather than looking for a father figure.

My dad is a bad dad, he was alright when I was younger but I think in the years that it really matters (pre-teen to teen) he failed lol. My boys never resembled him in any way. They're almost the opposite usually.

that is really creepy that you select mates that look like your dad. it's true for me b/c most of the guys i'm attracted to have similar features to my dad when he was my age. sick huh? lol

my boyfriend looks nothing like my dad. My dad and I used to fight a lot when I was younger. It took a lot of growing for both of us to get where we are today, which is a nice place to be.

Seems just too Freudian for comfort, doesn't it? In the last article I was reading about that tendency to select mates who resemble our father and/or families is actually driven by an evolutionary desire to maintain our genetics into the next generation. If we choose someone who looks like our dads, we're more likely to perpetuate the family "look" and keep those dominant physical genes going than if we choose someone who bears no family resemblance.

When I was a kid, my dad was "bad" - he was a raving alcoholic, silent fury type. But he got sober when I turned 30, and has been a peach ever since.
He lives in Washington State, so I don't get to see him much, but he's a dear.
My husband looks nothing like my dad, but he does look a bit like a younger version of my grandfather, and that is a sordid story, so I prefer to think it is just coincidental! Or maybe it is a way for me to subconsciously "fix" the past? Who knows-

My dad was a good father, he did some bad things, but just so he could spend more time with me and my sister. (I won't go into detail.) The guys I typically go for are somewhat like my dad, with his same work ethic and intelligence, but other than that their nothing like my dad.

My dad is so fucking awesome! He is the most intelligent, compassionate, funny, insightful person I know. He also happens to be a great cook. I love my dad because he reads adbusters, wears socks pulled up high with shorts, votes for the green party, and actively contributes to amnesty international.

My boyfriend of over 2 years is not very much like my dad at all. He is smart and caring and funny, but in entirely different ways. And they look like polar opposites.

My father was the worst dad imaginable. He was hooked on drugs and never new i was their. I lived in 12 different houses in one year because he kept losing the house. My mother left me with him. He would always be gone and my aunt would take care of me. He onces beat me and it took 7 guys to get him off of me. I left that night and never went back. Hes recently became clean and had new babes with a new wife. A whole new life i guess. We talk and i go see my siblings ( 2 girl twins, 1 boy) I try to forgive him but its hard.. I do notice that he is trying though.

I dont date guys but the guys i find myself attractive to look nothing like him.

My Dad hasn't ever been around much, and has a bit of a temper, but overall he is an amazing person, to everyone except his kids. He is the hardest working man I know, also the most honest. But it has hurt me trying to fight for his attention over the years. He has missed a lot of important things, like mt graduation and birthdays so he could travel. But hey if he didn't work that hard I wouldn't be typing on this computer right now wearing my nice cloths and eating my delicious food.
I have found that I date guys that are like him in the way that they don't give me much attention. I always find myself fighting for there love and trying so hard to make them love and accept me. But as far as physically my dad looks nothing like the guys I date.

My boyfriend is goofy like my dad. They both have the same work ethics and morals, and they both fear change and want me in their lives forever. also, both are drinkers, but they look nothing alike.

my dad isnt perfect, he's always been a great father, but he was an awful husband. Some of his flaws as a spouse hurt his parenting ability. My brother and I witnessed too much drug and alcohol abuse as well as a lot of domestic violence. my parents had a rocky marriage. even after they split and he stole me away, i was ignored. now that I'm older, i can understand why he did the things he did, although i still don't agree, i have forgiven him and we are closer than ever.

my dad always looking out for me, but sometimes is over protective and so he likes to control everything i do and not let me make my own decisions sometimes.
he's very discouraging at times, doesnt think i can do much.. but i suppose that he lacks in emotional support he makes up financially.

I haven't laid eyes on my biological father since I was 5 years old. I tried writing to him and he never wrote back. Now that he's old he sent a letter asking if I could bring him to live with me and my sister who's not his daughter, and he tried to molest when she was 6. (he's in mexico) I said no. He has a wife and children who hes involved with (in mexico) but the'yre super poor. Am I wrong for saying no? I had one good stepfather when I was a young kid who I still speak to this day. I had many stepfathers, one who sexually abused me for years. The worst part for me is that my mother knew and did nothing. So I do have some issues with certain types of men. Not all men. Smoking helps me to forget but im not like hung up on it. I've never had therapy but i did find majick wich helped me deal with it all. and my mate is the polar opposite of both my bad "dads".

plus my mom's a mondo bitch and the worst mom ever, so i have issues with both my parents. i guess thats while im so close to my friends cuz my family sucks. i wont elaborate cuz it would plobably take me a year.
