Fact: Joints are not more wasteful

Many people believe that joints waste more weed than other techniques such as pipes and bongs. They base this belief on the observation of a larger stream of smoke emitted by the tip of a joint, whereas the bowl has a small thin one.

THIS IS BECAUSE THE JOINT IS ALSO BURNING PAPER!

This can be proven. If you make a very long, skinny joint, and smoke 1/4 of it, you can carefully unwrap the paper off of it, leaving a long weed stick intact. It has to be very sticky weed to do this.

If you were to smoke this paper-less joint, you would see the same size stream of smoke emitted from its tip.

Case closed.

The reason I think joints are more wasteful is because they are constantly burning, even when you arent hitting them. at least with me and my friends hitting the bowl until its stopped burning is kinda common sense, sometimes you can't keep hitting it but thats like maybe 1/5 hits. so most of the time there is no smoke wasted with a bowl.

Besides, joints ARE more wasteful. :)
Than things like volcanoes.. and hookahs. :p

haha naw dude not everyone smokes like that, i usually make sure its out before i stop hitting it.

I dunno about that thing but I do agree with you with joints NOT being wasteful because they don't waste weed. Maybe people that take little baby hits but joints are not harsh and weed is not harsh so if you have a joint you need to kill the hell out of it. Take like 6 hits at a time without blowing any smoke out lol. I murdered a joint at the bus stop one time and was high for the whole day.

You can't say this is fact Moe. That is called an opinion, not fact. What you perceive to be true doesn't make it fact.

I never considered joints to wasteful because they always burn. The cherry burns so slow when you're nolt inhaling, so what, you lose 5 seconds or so of billowing smoke? A bowl does the same thing.

BUT, I find that you need more weed to roll up a joint. I find it pointless to roll up a toothpick sized pinner just to smoke mostly paper. I find joints to be more effective when there is more than just you smoking.

if you wanna stretch your weed just grind it fine and bulk it with backy.

a joints not wasteful as long as you bake a car or a room with it that way all the exess smoke thats burned off is eventually absorbed.

To most people a joint is a joint, but a joint is not a joint. A well rolled joint is a joint.

The art is to roll it so that when your not hitting it the tip is only slightly embering, so little that no smoke comes off of it, and it's not burning away.

If done right, your joint isnt wasting smoke or material, and it's not gone out either. A toke will ember it right up again, and when you stop it'll settle down and stop smoking again. With practise it's easy, it's like advanced joint rolling if you want to call it that. It's the step up after you've learned how to roll. And i can safely say im definatly not the only one here who can do this - so anyone who thinks "bullshit" - think twise.


That's how i can get a joint to last for so long.

A well rolled joint will not waste weed - so patheticly small loosely rolled ones will.

I'm going to say this now so i havnt got to say it later, but anyone thinking it "cant be done" is wrong, just because you cant do it, doesnt mean others cant. I cant blow glass, but it doesnt mean others cant.

There have been studies to see the THC conversion for each way of smoking. Joints/Blunts are about 10-15%, Glass Bowls and Bongs are about 15-20%, Vaporizers are about 90-95%. Don't remember where I read that, but its the truth. So case closed, joints waste the most marijuana.

Wasn't it joints 30%, bongs 70%, vapes 100%?

the only way i can see joints being more wasteful is if it is rolled incorrectly and just burns way to fast...

or if it starts to run.... that is also wasteful....

thedazn, it doesnt waste marijuana.... the percentages you just listed are how much thc burns, there is a lot more to marijuana than just thc.... and also i dont think those are right, ive seen somewhere else that a joint has more than a bowl...
i could be wrong tho... until i see the study i aint believing it, no offense...

Exactly...if it's not rolled right or rolled too loose, it will burn away a lot faster. I smoke joints less then blunts and bowls now, but used to a lot back in the day, and if you roll them right, they burn alright.

When I'm smoking a blunt that I rolled, sometimes you can't even tell it's lit, because there is such slight embering. I actually don't find blunts to be wasteful at all...at least mine don't really burn anything when I'm not hitting it...it just chills lol.

one thing with a joint though, is all the resin soaks into the paper so you really burn it twice. there is an art to rolling a joint, and you have to know how to hit them too, i hate fuckers who get the end all soggy!

I never really thought about it, but indeed, I do bet a lot of the smoke that just burns and rolls of the end is the paper burning...

what about a joint rolled with clear papers? those burn even slower, and its just the weed burnign there

I've been smoking pot for well over 35 years.
When I smoke joints or bongs, my sack is gone A LOT faster than when I smoke bowls, or use the volcano.
Plus, I hate the taste and smell of paper smoke.

Right. I'm not fucking standing for that. That IS NOT the truth, and im not having that left on the boards for people to read. That is bullshit. It's crap, and in no way true.

Either you havnt read anything, or whatever you HAVE read is EXTREMELY WRONG. You'll find after a bit of research that JOINTS actually have a the HIGHEST THC transfer rate, better than pipes bongs AND vapes. Dont litter the boards with excrement. People want to read something and KNOW it's the truth - what you wrote of misinformation.

A cherred bowl waste a lot more smoke than a joint or blunt, swishers are the way to go in my opinion

yes i believe lip is correct because you have to keep relighting a bowl, and the flame destroys some of the thc. with a joint, you only light it once.

Joints just suck in general (unless you're on the move).

They're inefficient and I always feel paranoid while smoking in public, anyway.

What about the roach? It may not be wasted, but it sure tastes terrible if you try to load it in a pipe or something.

after you roll one up. rub it on the leaves around your plant a little. I think it gives it somthing extra:yippee:

I see joints having the advantage of being able to smoke all of whats there. For example smoking out of a pipe, that smoke passing thru will stick to the sides and build up resin overtime. Joints, on the other-hand, smoke stream gets cut up in all the weed that you eventually smoke all of.

if you roll and smoke your joints right (fat, solid and proper), well that is the best way to smoke. You shouldn't be able to see any cherry in between hits. Give the jay time to cool off between hits, don't suck it like a milkshake. All the smoke you should see is the smoldering weed, the paper should be burning almost exclusively when you take a draw. Let the joint go out, have fun with it. The right head can take a joint for a few hour break.

Of course if you are in a hurry suck it down

oh and save the roaches for brownies.

UK makes a good point. After my boy rought me a grinder from Amsterdam, with mucho miles on it, it mad erolling easier and smoking better.
If the weed is compressed, u may get uneven burning, and as a cigar lover also that SUCKS!! Grind or fine crush it (a la hands) and roll up.
