400w hps

say if i was to buy a 400w hps light, how many plants would i be able to grow with it roughly.

4 would be pretty standard

but you could grow 16 or more even if you're doing little SOG grow

what is a SOG grow?

I have 7 plants in flowering under a 400w HPS right now. They're all thriving, but I wouldn't add another.

planing on a 3x3 set up with a 400 in a room 9 plants 1per sq ft flower at 12 inches

this is flowering when the plants are small
so you can get more under the light

in a roughly 3x3 space, I usually don't exceed 4 plants during flowering although I have had 5 in there and things were fine.

i have the same plans as unlockit. it might get a little crowded but mj can produce nice buds w/ as little as 30w hid per sq ft. at least thats what ive been reading and would like to keep it around 40w or a little higher. my area though will be 3x4 with the light directly over the 9plants and have room to put in a fan and whatnot.

my current grow in a 3x3 had four plants that were flowered b/t 12-14in., i had plenty of room and could have very comforably added another 2-4...indica's grow fatter so i'd roll with 6-7 max...sativas are generally taller and skinnier so i'd go 7-8 max...if u go sea of green u can comfortably fit 20 2-gallon grow bags in my 3x3 room

i have grown 9 plants in 3x3 space but it was pretty crammed and the plants suffered, should have gone sog or scrog with this many but just wanted to see how many i could grow in this space and i think 5 will give me enough space and can fim them.
