i have a grow box its about 3 feet tall by 2 1/2 wide and is made from two big bins and the inner walls are covered in aluminum foil and it has a 300 watt and can turn to 500 watt but i think 500 is too strong for the box and it has a fan with about 5 setting and is on about low...umm it has two vent holes and its my second grow box and the first did bad...soo im askin the pros...lol here are some pikz of it...

yea i acctually took out the foil and put in reflective spray paint because someone said itll cook my babiis...lol
Dull side of foil would have worked though.\\
o hahaha well to late now but i think the gold will do it a lil better alot more mellow but at the same time popz...lol wtf is up with me...hahaha i think ive been sniffin a few fumes...lol but yea i need to know how long do u think it will take after my germinated seeds break the soil..???or pop up watever u wanna callit
Karma we need to work on some things!! You got the right idea with the grow box but there are several issues to be considered be for you do ANY growing in there. I read that you got rid of the tin foil so that is the first step in the right direction. Tin foil tears easily and is prone to creating heat spots which burn your plants and distribute light unevenly. I heave heard of people still making due with foil by using the dull side but I would be very careful! Also, you might want to reconsider using spray paint around something you will be theoretically smoking later. Toxic chemicals such as spray paint are not good things to have in your grow area as the buds and leaves will absorb these minute particles right out of the air. Lastly, you need to get a different light if you are going to be growing plants. Plants and marijuana require a special light spectrum that is not properly emulated with a light such as the halogen(?) you've got there. Not only that but they emit so much heat it makes the use of them near impossible, especially with a small grow space such as yours. I see you are new here, thanks for joining good luck. thnks and i am juss makin due with what i have but tha light isnt halogen its i believe HID or soo it says and yea i got rid of the foil and the paint is from krylon which is plastic bonder and after it dryies there is no airborn particles i think and it says safe to use indoors and watever...but thnks for all the help im learnin alot and im juss gonna use this light till i can afford a new light system and a hydro setup and i have about five plants outside and im gona try to get some pikz of them but they r about 5 days old and barely gettin out of the soil...

here are the seeds that r almost done germinateing and ill be useing this thread as sort of a grow log soo yea...and the seeds are gona be planted soon as the roots extend a little bit more...or should i wait longer...???
hey man get rid of that halogen, get some Cfl's the cool 42 watters cause Halogen hurts the plants via the heat emitted from the bulb, sry but i made that mistake back in high School lol but yea man nice set up, may i add, try getting a Computer fan and a 12v Ac adapter from you local Radio Shack, that and Soil less mix of 1/3 Perlite, 1/3 Peat moss and 1/3 virmuclite in 16 0z dixy cups you use at kegger;s :D yea, ill keep on giving you tips if you need it man

Your setup is pretty nice mate.
Just to help you out with a few things, you can germinate your seeds alot better with paper towel that is only damp and not soaked. I used 2 pieces of paper towel and folded them over, then wet them, rung them out a bit, and stuck them on a plate with a cup over in my airing cupboard. They germinate within 24 hours. Plant them now because they will rot in that water.
The second is depending whether that netting was to allow air to pass through or not because if it wasn't then you could cover it in mylar, otherwise a lot of light will be escaping there. Mylar won't tear and is very reflective and flexible.

yea thanks about the germination tips im allready workin on it and thats umm reflective tint and yea it lets a lil light out and ima get some mylar as soon as i find a store that sells it home depot didnt soo ill hopefully find 1 soon...
I'm pretty sure that light is a Halogen, but I could be wrong. If thats the case though you can cound on zero plants and stop now.
the little 1 is florecent and the big 1 is from panasonic and its 120 watt and its a flood light im not sure if its hallogen but if it is ill change it right away...ill try to find a picture of it on the web really fast umm i couldnt find the exact bulb but i now know its incandesant i dont know how it affects the plants but its use is for plants soo thats why i got it...
Karma, I only see one light and it isn't fluorescent its probably halogen. Take a look at the picture see any similarities? That was found by googling "halogen light". You cannot grow plants under halogen or incandescent bulbs either way it will not work. You need HPS, (high pressure sodium) which gets hot and usually has a ballast - good for flowering, or a MH (metal halide) lamp which is very good for vegging (blue spectrum), or high output fluorescent T5, T4 etc. you can also use compact fluorescent lights which are lower wattage, take up less space and are very good for small plants and clones but can be used for the full cycle. Trust me, you want to get rid of the halogen if you are serious about growing. Not trying to be overbearing but I too....made the same mistake when I was beginning.
yea im trying to find a metal halide bulb but its soo expensive the wanted like 30 for just 1 bulb and yea i got rid of the florecent bulb i swear ill try and post pikz of the new box as soon as i can and i am dum i had some mylar strips layin around my house and didnt know it but i put them up today and my wall in the back is whit and soo i have a place to observe the plant i have som reflective tint...and thanks for the help man but what store sells hps or halide bubls...i cant find them anywhere do u think a plant store will...???
Yea, the lamps are nothing compared to the ballast. The whole set up, ballast, 250 watt HPS bulb, reflector, will run you about $130 on ebay. If this is your first grow, I would just stick to CFL lights.
yea thats my point lol and here are my bulbs from now and my setup and everything...ill post another with the rest
the pikz are of my grow box with the mylar{finnaly} the new brackets to hold the light a bit higher from the plant and the light bulbs and balast...
the first of the second 4 is a plc 40watt i dont know wat plc is...but thas what it is...i think the second is a florecent and its 23 watt... the last is a 120 watt i think its called agro or sumthin but i think its incandesent or sumthin but its made for plants and they only had this soo thats what i got...
The first one will do you nothing. Only make heat and waste electricity. The blue lookin floodlight probably won't do a damn thing either. However, the CFL (thats the spirally lookin one in the second pic) is what you want. If you could get a couple more of those, you'd be on the right track.
walmart has a 70 watt regency security light(hps) not terribly cheap but it is a hps. about 75ish$ and lowes has 100 w mh sec light and a 150w hps sec light you can see them used on this sight, but takes some jerry rigging. which doesnt look like a problem for you, lol. they are abot 80$ i ended up getting one from growers supply which is not attached to mj at all for 89$ 150 hps. lowes carries up to a 400w hps bulb, but doesnt have any fixtures for it. about 20$ for now though im sure your cfl's will work. there is an interesting grow with those regencies in high times(last yr.) if you go any bigger than these you will need to buy ballasts and cords and things, these have a built in ballast.
