Why are country folk so protective of their land?

My girlfriend and I got a laugh out of this.

We were driving home and we started laughing at this hose with a long U-Turn driveway. They always have three cars parked at one end, blocking it completely from being used. I understand they don't want a bunch of cars using their driveway to turn around, but it seems like more of an inconvenience now. They would know better than me though...

On a side note, I have seen first hand a man running out of his house with a shot gun because someone did that exact thing. Yeah turning around in someones driveway warrants a wild west shoot out.

It isn't even just cars. People could have acres and be wondering why there is an odd truck on their neighbors property, and wondering if it will make its way onto theirs... That sounds dumb, but my girlfriend heard it with her own ears...

I can't wait till I can live in a city again.

perhaps they're growing or making somethign they shouldn't?

then again, they don't exactly have peopel to watch shit for them, and cops are usually spread out pretty far and ontop of that, getting on eto come out could take awhile..

i suppose if i lived there awhile i'd get paraniod too... the best defense is a good offense.... if you chase away possible problems before they arise, no problem...

Lol I understand that, but going on the offense before someone even has a chance to get out of their car and is already going slowly in reverse just seems stupid. Especially since a lot of people around here like to carry loaded weapons in their cars.

Well i do live out in the country and people are crazy about their land. I remember hearing about one guy who shot his neighbor (a woman no less) for walking on his private road. That's a little out of control in my book.

Having said that...I've also heard alot of calls for tresspassing including partying (and leaving all their crappy trash, beer bottles etc behind) four-wheeling, hunting, cutting down trees and setting up camp on private land without any consideration being shown by said parties to the fact that things may not be theirs to take and trash. When I first moved here it was wide open country. Now everybody fences their land, expensive as that may be, because it's the only way to keep alot of people who don't belong there off.

I don't live in the country, but you all are welcome to turn around in my driveway any day of the week. :thumbsup:

I don't see what the big deal is. And defending your land through "offense" doesn't make sense either. I feel like that creates problems that wouldn't arise 99% of the time.

I have gotten shot at with rock salt... One place I used to cut across when I was in school let mad geese out to attack me...

I on the other hand built a bridge over a brook so kids wouldn't get a soaker when they cut my yard to go home...

Raised in a big city all my life. Now i live about 130 miles from a big city. And 30 Miles from a small one. Im cool with the country life,:thumbsup:

Your not going into the driveway of a residence as much as you are a virtually unprotected business. The closest law is probably 20-30 min away. They have machinery, livestock, GAS just to name a few investments and they work on a VERY low profit margin.

I've got alot of relation in farming and the majority of the cars that pull in their places in the middle of the night don't have good intentions. Usually someone looking to get some free gas.....

You wouldn't pull completely into a manufacturing plant to pull a u-turn because they have a gaurd shack protecting it....why do it to a farmer? Isn't it just as easy to do a Y-turn at the end of the driveway?

I have friends in the boonies who are seriously hardcore about their land....
Private Property is a precious thing..At least around here.

It is hard to keep out people from using your land....you got your crazies who want to camp...you got your people wantin to steal your herb..

..All kinds of stuff.

Basically, if you live in the country...you better be protecting your land.

Only 3 states have laws though that permit deadly force upon someone if they tresspass..It's called the "Make My Day" statute or something...and it's only in like Colorado and Nevada or something...haha.

its not just gas they steal,some mak their meth shacks and then leave the toxic crap behind.

because us country folk are just poor, no shoe wearing, overall loving, , vigilante justice having, no good, toothless slack jawed yokals.

That is the truth....20 or 30 minutes away for sure and let's hope HE isn't busy on another call....

And another truth there....there really aren't too many good reasons for someone to be out in your area....much less driving around on your land.

Word... my ex ran his landscaping, equipment repair, and auto body businesses out of our home... we left lights and TV on when we weren't home... anyone pulling into the driveway was sure to see one of us come out on the porch... there were tens of thousands of dollars worth of tools and excavating equipment, not to mention gasoline, small power equipment, spare parts, including for his 69 Charger... it's one of those rural farm towns near enough to the highway where shit walks off all the time and makes it to the big city, or only to the next street... one of the most common items to be stolen is hydraulics line fittings... go to start the bucketloader and discover that some twat has walked off with half the hoses or even the cylinders... that guy turning around in the driveway might just be checking to see if that tractor has the same size fittings as his. No fucking around. We still had stuff stolen pretty regularly.

thats their land, and almost the only thing they have. so i guess that warrants a bit of hostility towards strangers. i dunno.

I completely understand if someone is walking around the property. I have had people walk on to my property before, when I see them I walk out to ask what's up while playing with my butterfly knife. I don't understand the paranoia of simply a car though.

If I want to use someone elses land for what ever reason, I will knock on their door and ask, but simply getting pissed because someone is using your driveway to turn around is a little over the top.
