hello all, advice for a newbie?

hi fellas, not only am i new here on this forum but i'm also relatively new to smoking, so i ask you please to bear with me and be patient. :) i just finished my freshman year of college and i'd never done anything of the sort until this semester, but the occasion presented itself three times to experiment and live a little, and needless to say i loved it.

like i said, i've only smoked three times in my life and only other people's weed, but i wanna start to make a recreational habit of it, yaknow, and i'd be open to any kind of advice (or if you could direct me to another thread or whatever).

like, on average how much should it cost if i buy an amount (is one oz. standard?)... and how can i tell when a bowl (i've only ever smoked out of a pipe/bowl before) is cashed? is there any kinda technique or etiquette i should be aware of if i'm puffing from a bowl, like how i light it? if i decide to buy my own piece, anything i should know about taking care of it other than cleaning oout the resin?

i'm sure this all sounds kinda foolish but i appreciate your advice...

1. Prices depend on your dealers and the quality of the weed. Ask your friends about that one I assume you'll have to go through one of them to buy your weed anyways. You could buy an ounce dealers give price breaks with bigger orders sometimes. But first off i suggest buying a scale that way you can know ur not getting ripped off. About .5g (3.5g in an eighth of an ounce) should pretty easily get you high.
2. You will know when the bowl is cashed basically by the taste. When you get that hit and you say to urself hmm...that tasted like shit you know its cashed.
3. Don't get your lips totally on the bowl if you're smoking with others as far as bowl etiquette goes. I'm assuming you already know how to use the bowl, but i like to cover and release the carb while hitting it so i can get a good airflow and plenty of smoke.

alright, well if you're just going to be smoking on weekends, you DEFINITELY don't need to be buying an oz at a time! lol unless you know exactly what you want, i'd say you should start off with a "dub" (normally 1/8 of an ounce) at a time. should be somewhere from 20 to 30 bucks, depending on the quality and quantity. and as far as basic etiquette goes, it's normally that you just take 1-2 hits and pass it to the left (but you probably already knew that)

but there is a certain technique for lighting a pipe/bowl/whatev that's called "cornering" basically, you position the lighter VERY near the outer edge of the weed, so it's not even touching the weed when you light it, and then you suck in so that only like 1/2 of the bowl is burnt by the flame. this ensures that the next person in line gets some green material. it's just a nice little favor for a buddy of yours, ya know?

but that's about all i know. you can use the search feature on here if you want to learn more etiquette and such.

but most of the time, if you're not certain what rules the guys you're smoking with are going by, just ask. people will normally be glad to let you know what's going on so you don't fuck up and make an ass of yourself.

as far as the carb goes, i keep my finger on it until the fiery red color goes away and then i start alternate-releasing, right?

so if, for instance, me and a girl were smoking one night, how many grams would you say is good? half a gram? would that do, say, two bowls worth?
i'm just trying to get the scales and measures down...

Since you've only smoked 3 times, I bet .25 would get you goin, and .5 between you and your girl (who I'm also guessing hasn't smoked or few times) would get you guys pretty messed up. How many hits do you usually take before really feeling it? I only need 3 or 4 bong hits and I'm pretty stoned and I've been smoking everyday for about 5 months now. I'd say ask your smoking buddies to sell you a $20 sack of dank and you'll be alright for the week.

i didn't feel it the first time but i was piss drunk and they say you don't feel it the first time anyway, right (is that really as true as they say?)

the other two times, maybe 5 hits but i was probably taking shitty hits, definitely coughing all over the place

the girl's prolly smoked more than i have but i'll have to ask her about that :rasta:

Well the first time I smoked I felt it, but I've heard a lot of people not getting high on their first time. It basically just differs from person to person.

But yeah I'd ask your dealer about that $25, or also called a half-eighth. :thumbsup:

One Oz in America can vary in price depending on state and quality. Expect to pay for mids, maybe $160 - 200 and for dank, $300-400. I reccomend buying an 8th, which is 3.5 grams, try it out and then see if you wanna buy more after, which you probably will if it's good stuff :D A bowl has 3 stages, which i will describe in colours: Green, black, white. Once we have arrived at the white stage, the bowl is cashed, time to pack another enjoy. People have already talked about cornering, it's important to get it down, it's very noticable stoner professionalism. Maybe when you buy some ganja, you should smoke up the people who smoked you up, some good karma and all. Personally, i think you should buy a bubbler instead of glass pipe, look it up on google if you don't know what it is. Water pipes are so much smoother then regular and are worth the investment 100%

hi guys, back again with a couple more questions, everybody was helpful and if i knew how to +rep i would :)

i ordered my first piece, a glass pipe (your standard spoon) about 10 days ago and it came in today, so i just have some in-general questions. i think i'm gonna keep the bubble-wrap it came in to hopefully prevent any accidents, we'll see if that helps...

1.) screens. these are a necessity to prevent the weed from falling down the hole, right? can i substitute them for something else around the house, or should i find a headshop and buy some?
2.) homemade waterfall bongs. does the presence of the water cool the smoke like a normal bong? does the smoke lose any of its thc/potency when it's just chilling as the water level falls?
3.) resin. if i'm not looking to smoke it, is the best way to deal with it with a paperclip? or...?
4.) anything else about taking care of the pipe that's not obvious? thanks.

There's really no need to keep it in the bubble-wrap, but if you feel it's the safest, feel free. It's no big deal, really.

I've never used a pipe that had a screen in it. Most pipes have a small enough hole in them, that if the weed were to be sucked through...it would be just a small, small amount. Screens are more so used for bongs. If you really would like to use one, purchase it at your local head shop. Tin foil with some holes in it works fine too. (Usually)

It cools the hit, just like a normal bong, yes. The smoke does not lose THC or Potency, no.

Surprisingly, you can get reaaaal ripped off resin (if there's enough of it) but it tastes kind of gross, and it isn't exactly the healthiest stuff to inhale. If you wanna scrap your bowl of the res, the best method is to use a paper clip. You can also use hot water to clean up your pipe. Careful though, it may leave an aroma.

yea foils bad for you

go to your sink, unscrew the end part where water comes out, and their will be 1-3 screens in their that are exactly the same as a screen in pipes.

oh yea, and you can get an ounce of schwag for 50 bucks. an ounce is about, 40-50 joints, or 80-100 bowls. :)

And I tend to stay away from tin-foil in general. It's not good for you at all, and it tastes nasty. Bleh. Stick with glass ;]

dude totally agree with this guy. no need to buy an Oz as a beginner an 8th shall be plenty. that goes for 50 around these parts 60 if it's real dank. you should definitly smoke up your dealer if they have the time. burn a bowl or two, it's good for relations. kudos on throwing out the bub suggestion. my bubbler was my first hand piece purchase and about 3 tokes in on a full bowl it rips like a motherfucker. i stand by bubblers as well. cools the hit a bit which doesn't filter out thc or decrease potency by the way. you'll get baked. trust me.


i think someone mentioned something about not coughing so you don't lose smoke and not get as high.

i am a firm believer in that "you've got to cough to get off".

all i say is take a massive hit, hold it in as long as you can, once you get through the pain of coughing (don't worry you get used to it after awhile and will learn how to take it properly) you'll be blazed off your ass.

let the resin collect in your bowl. you'll never know when there could be a dry spell or even worse lack of money. smoke it when you can't find green. desperation is a stinky cologne.

I hate smoking resin, I never ever do it. I can just sit it out untill more weed is ready.

screens aren't a necessity. but are helpful in not catching that mouthful of ash at the end of the bowl.

waterfalls will chill the hit if the water is cold enough. it won't filter the hit. there is a method to filter a gravity bong which i highly recommend. no pun intended.

Good post dude, one thing i would suggest is that you should only hold your hits for 5 seconds max. Basically all the thc is absorbed within that time period, so there's no need to hold it in any longer. Roughly 97% i think.

Hi, since everyone is assuming you're in the US, I'll give you a quick rundown of Denmark (other European countries might vary).

The main thing to smoke in Denmark (unlike most other european countries) is Hash. There are different types, ranging from standard (ca. 3-4% THC) to NOL (8-9.5%). Prices go from 5$ - 25$ a gram.
These are also the AVERAGE prices for green in other european countries.

Also, I must recommend something. As implied by your posts, I'm guessing you've only smoked outta bong. I suggest you give rolling a spliff a try.
For two reasons; 1) it gives you more satisfaction smoking something you "made", and 2) it's quite the turn-on for a woman if her man can roll a nice one, quickly. Use appox. half an 1/8 in a joint (1.5 grams) for a nice start.
