Otherwise known as The Isomorphism Game.

Just to kick things off in here, I thought I dream up a fun science game for everyone. It's a bit of an experiment, ahahaha if you excuse the pun ;), and it goes like this.

Someone says something, a thing, and the next person says something completely random that constitutes an "isomorphism" of the previous object or thing.

Get it?

Let me explain further then...

Wikipedia defines the "Isomorphism" as this.

Buts it's not a game of maths, that is just one application.

I recently tried to read a book called Godel, Escher, Bach and never really got very far in it as I didn't really take to the writers' overly creative style of writing/presentation and found his logic difficult to follow. I think perhaps this was the idea. But nonetheless I did understand pretty well what he was trying to say. A central theme of the book was the isomorphism, the mysterious thing that relates seemingly independent and abstract objects to one another, in often indiscernible ways.

For example, the mathematican Godel, the artist Escher, and the composer Bach are all isomorphisms of each other. The thing in this case which links them together is the mobeus strip, because each one expressed themselves in similarly "loopy" kinds of way. Douglas Hofstadter explains it better than me, but he takes much longer.

Other more obvious examples are broccolli florets and oak trees, moths and butterflies, George W Bush and monkeys. These examples are obviously linked together by shape, apart from the latter which arguably could be linked isomorphically in all sort of other ways.

Anyway, I dunno if this will work. It's sort of like a word association game, but I'm hoping it will be more interesting as there is the freedom to post something completely random and detailed, such as Hilda Ogden from Coronation street washing her undies! I don't know exactly what that could relate to isomorphically, and I don't really think I want to, but its just an example of the kind of thing I mean. Probably best to stick to things most people know about and not get too abstract though.

OK here goes, I'll start with the first two, an example of a relatively well known recent isomorphism in the UK. I will explain a little about the first so you understand why I am linking him isomorphically to the second.

GEORGE GALLOWAY

George Galloway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Galloway as you can read is a pretty left wing street fighting politician, and about the only one left in the UK with any real integrity. He was cast out of the labour party years ago for opposing the war in Iraq, and later formed his own party and got re-elected in a largely Muslim constituency outing a female black jewish labour MP who supported the war.

He did himself a small but insignificat amount of discredit when he appeared live on Celebrity Big Brother dressed as and acting like a CAT! See you tube here.

He now hosts a regular chat show, on radio and internet broadcast here

having recently taken a bit of a back seat from the politics of westminster to exploit the medium of radio entertainment as his political soap box, to great success and acclaim.

He uses the music from a famous American cartoon from the early 80's as his introductory jingle, and this is a reference to the cat incident on BB, as well as I think his general cattish charm and also perhaps the way he talks in such a demure yet authoritary manner. Perhaps there is also an isomorphism in his sly rounded physiognamy...

Not quite.

You are supposed to post something that the previous object/thing shares a common, but unusual, affinity with. A concept that binds the two together as odd twins. Don't post the concept. Post the thing that shares the isomorphism with the previous thing!

Actually I have no idea. Maybe its not going to work. I imagined it would be something that required careful though and timely inspiration, so you don't need to post anything until you feel inspired.

Anyway, its cat's or something. If that takes your mind to a strange new place and you have no idea how you got there from, then post it here, but only from the above, please.

Who knows! Probably. I realised afterwards that Sylvester Stallone, sounds like stone, is the actor who plays rocky balboa, and stones are parts of rocks. Work it out if you can, and tell me.

Well, they are both mammals, and they are both common house hold pets who walk around on four limbs. Further to that they are both popular cartoon characters from the eighties, albiet with different personalities. So they are connected, but I think the idea behind the isomorphism is that they are connected by some indeterminate commonality that might not actually exist in any actual objectively recognisable form, it's kind of subtle, do you know what I mean?

I wonder if we'll ever get away from sentient beings in this game. :D
