god made hell... doesn't make sense
question for those who believe in hell...
alright, from a traditional protestant christian perspective god made hell for satan and his followers.
let's look at it logically...
the reason for its creation was because sin cannot be in heaven, a place of perfection.
it is described as a place of torture by fire and brimstone.
my question is...what does god have to gain by torturing those who are already damned to eternal seperation???
i can understand a void that is absent of "god" but what good is the punishment on top of the seperation? once a person is in hell (traditionally speaking) there is no hope of redemption, so the torture cannot be for any redemptive purpose. the only other purpose that i could even imagine would be for some sedistic satisfaction by its creator. that doesn't sound like god to me...
i am especially interested in comments from people who hold a belief in hell...

hell is rehab, nothing more.
the type of hell depends on the individual.

Hell is a flawed concept that was written by corrupted church clergy long, long ago.

Hell is not firey and hot. It's made out of ice, it's so cold, that it's hot. Ever hold ice on your hand and it starts to burn? That's what hell is supposed to be like.

All i need is a smilie. :beatdeadhorse: God being the horse.

Hell is just a place of low vibration where some get stuck, people there think its real and they have to realize its not in order to escape. Its like how all of you think this consiousness is real..when you have to realize its not.

as george carlin says (not an exact quote)
religion has actually convinced people that... there's an invisible man in the sky! who watches everything you do, and he has a special list of 10 things he does not want you to do.. and if you do any of these things, he'll send to you a place full of fire where you'll burn, hurt, suffer, and cry for ever and ever until the end of time....
BUT HE LOVES YOU! doesn't seem like a loving being to me...

Hell is supposed to motivate you to do good. It is a place of evil and a stage of your spirit's eternal humiliation; a place of breathless sorrow. Damned are those who do not conform...and The Lord gave you a chance to save yourself.

Only retards crossover freely, I guess? What about us lazy, good-for-nothing, deadbeats who live proudly in our ways? I believe in humans and because of it I am damned to Hell.

i used to be a protestant. God originally made hell for bad angels or sumtin like that. When Adam and Eve ate the apple from the tree and sinned God got pissed and deicded to make bad humans go to hell too.

yeah i understand where it came from (im an ex-ordained minister)... i am talking about the logical sense of what hell is compared to who the loving god is. do you see the difference?

Religion is a freaking joke. More people have been killed over religion than anything else in this world. I can't stand how people can believe such garbage. I'm sorry if this offended someone, but it's truly how I feel about the issue. I don't believe that there is a hell or a heaven for that matter. There is absolutely no proof of one ever being. I believe that when a person dies, they are dead and they decompose into nothing. That's it. I don't believe that you go to heaven and hell. I'm getting pissed off just thinking about it.

From what I've gathered most of the writings and basis for almost any churchs idea of hell is from non-official sources. I mean non-official, as in NOT the bible. Does anyone know what the bible said about hell? Separate from other sources, what did the bible portray hell as?

i think it might be something like everything and anything is heaven and hell, not 2 seperate poles of morality at different ends. like yin and yang, you know? a balance.
in my opinion Christianity is the simple man's religion. it offers a connection to a higher force, but at the price of original contemplation. and i dont trust the church one bit.

Hell was made up from some crazy catolic(sp?) school to stop little boys from smoking crack and pimping out hoes on the street...
-
god made hell... doesn't make sense
the bible describes it as a place of "weaping and gnashing of teeth" and of "fire and brimstone."
it doesnt leave much room for free choice since one choice (rejecting relationship with god leading to hell) is not really a choice at all!!! kind of like giving someone a free will choice to do what you ask or to not do it and be killed as a result.

Hell is such an incredibly primitive concept, devised from a primitive society who's idea of justice is simply revenge. Revenge really has no purpose other than indulging our urge to inflict harm upon others, to gratify our own urge to inflict suffering upon those who inflicted suffering. The real means to end suffering is not to create more, you'd think that would be a no brainer. To meet undesired suffering with more suffering, is like trying to put out a fire with a flamethrower...meanwhile still trying to figure out why the forests are burning.
I personally believe evil should be viewed as a disease, not an enemy. You don't eliminate cancer by trying to inflict pain on it, you eliminate it by careful reasoning to find the most efficient means of eliminating it. Hell is completely pointless, an existence that creates unbearable suffering which would only set in motion more suffering by karmic means. A logical god would simply blink irreversible evil out of existence.

isn't the entire concept of religion primitive? with all of this belief in mythological creatures and fantasy realms, we seem to be no more advanced than our distant ancestors. we seem to be trapped in our imaginings, unable to see past these childish dreams, and we will probably remain so until we are willing to admit that the answers we seek in religion are most likely unattainable.

i wouldn't classify religion as primitive personally. i see it more as a necessary evil of sociological means to carry on information about spirituality that is beneficial when not viewed through fundamental eyes.
for instance... forms of meditation like Vipassana (buddhist awareness meditation) is an amazing tool for both spiritual and completely "natural" reasons. the religion of buddhism has developed this method and carried the tradition on that people today can benefit from. i practice it yet do not follow the religion. if it weren't for the traditions in the religion this information would not have survived and been refined so much over the years for the benefit of people today.
religion = necessary evil

Well, I'll try but I dont have experience in hell besides being human. I've read that hell is a collaboration of all negative thoughts given by all humans in the entire history of earth, and heaven is made up of all positive thoughts, then there are many places in between. 3 lower realms "hell" being the lowest, 3 higher realms "heaven" being the highest, and the physical realm is in the middle which counts as 1 realm. All that stuff is'nt real its just a very in-depth illusion.
I read that from some buddhist astral projector which explained every realm he explained what it felt like in each one, like hell felt like being stuck in mud very hard to move and theres body parts floating around everywhere or somthing like that. I remember one of the higher realms he said theres people that just constantly build things..im guessing thats where people like engineers and people that are obsessed with constructing and fixing things go.
I think he is the one that said that the buddhist realm is just nothing all that exists there are your thoughts and feelings and it is so empty that some people that visit there can get freaked out by it.
