Need some bong advice, SAFETY

Is it safe to smoke out of a copper pipe, say for instance i have a nice bong but i have nothing for the bowl to connect to, , , srry my cams not working but ill try to draw it......> l l

so im not sure if you understand my diagram, but that horizontal line above the peice labeled as a stem would be the bowl, so you can now imagine the piece that is under the bowl, and i was wondering....

is it safe to make the stem out of copper pipe???? because i was using rubber before and it was giving off rubber smoke into my lungs but i doubt copper would do this..

Ever wonder why you don't see copper pipes in the head shops? Straight from Wikipedia "copper which is extremely reactive and can create toxic chemicals when triggered by one of the thousands of chemicals inherent in any smoke"

And don't even think of PVC

Stainless steel or brass would be the way to go

That was one of the first things i learned about smoking:
-Dont use copper
-Dont use pvc
-Dont use tinfoil

You should just go to your local headshop and buy a bowl/ downstem apparatus if you just buy one of those lil martini glass ones its really cheap (like 6 or 7 dollars) meh and I blieve the Russians Proved smoking out of copper causes AIDS lol :wtf:

I have some metal pipes, but many glass pipes and several glass bongs, including a couple of hookahs.

Stick with metal, which is closer compared to copper than glass. But stick with glass too. Grab a tall, glass bong and fill it with some water, just a little ways over the slider inside the bong.

go make a waterfall bong and use a socket for the bowl! :thumbsup:

Copper is a metal. I'd use glass if you could its cool cause its easier to clean and you can see the smoke pour through it.

Smoking out of copper isn't good for you... Brass, stainless steel and glass are good though.

I dont mean to nit-pick but why-tf is everyone suggesting brass as a bong stem? It tarnishes (not just resinates) in water doesnt it? Also the pipes that are made of aluminum or brass are coated with a protectiv3 layer (aka "annodized") and this layer can be easily scraped off. Brass is not a metal it is an alloy which contains unknown quantities of LEAD and COPPER!!!!! Like they said, no (vomit alert) fucking stupid rediculous materials like rubber tubes, pvc, tinfoil boils and fucking tincans X(.

be safe, look for older steel sockets that dont have the shiny chromium coating because that shit cant be safe either. Dont use materials that rust in a bong. NO FUCKING GLUES, face it aside from using the stuff they sell in stores as a bench mark, I (and perhaps you) know very little about smoker safety (irony?). Dont scrape shitty metal pipes or stems and if you're truely worried about excess carcinogenic material in your smoke, why not drop a dime or two on a vaporizer or hot-air gun (aka desoldering gun) so you're not always breathing a mixture of burning plant and butane exhaust.
