Fort Dix murder plot foiled, 6 arrested
FORT DIX, N.J., May 8 (UPI) -- An FBI sting has resulted in the arrest of six Albanian men who were allegedly plotting a killing spree at the U.S. Army's Fort Dix in New Jersey.
Sources who asked not to be identified told the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger the arrests were made Monday night in two locations as the suspects showed up to purchase AK-47 assault rifles.
The report said an arms dealer agreed to cooperate in the sting that foiled a plot to kill as many soldiers as possible at the base.
The arrests were made at two homes in the Cherry Hill area, and several of the suspects were from the same family, the sources said.
There was no immediate report on the motive for the attack, which a source told CNN was well into the surveillance and planning mode.

This was a plot by Bush and the rest of the Republicans to save face in the news and get more funding approved for the illegal Iraq war. blah blah blah blah
I am glad I got the 2nd post on this thread, I am curious how long it'll be before people are stating the bullshit I was quoting above.

this should be moved to conspiracy...certainly fits the bill...i'm sure there's a doublethink answer why it shouldn't be...but this is a conspiracy...
con·spir·a·cy
1.the act of conspiring. 2.an evil, unlawful, treacherous, or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons; plot. 3.a combination of persons for a secret, unlawful, or evil purpose: He joined the conspiracy to overthrow the government. 4.Law. an agreement by two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud, or other wrongful act. 5.any concurrence in action; combination in bringing about a given result.

I thought Albania was an ally, one of the coalition of 5-7 countries that sent a couple a troops to Iraq, like Japan and their 25 troops, big help those allies, eh? Especially if their citizens want to kill our soldiers.

I for one am glad that this was foiled, and I don't think it was a conspiracy. I think time magazine said there were something like 14,000 (I could be wrong by a factor of 10, it's either 14k or 1.4k) terrosit attacks in the world a year (sadly with 45% of them being in Iraq or something like that). Regardless, terrorism is and always has been a problem, it's good to see when such acts are halted.

By March 2006 the group was infiltrated by the first of two FBI informers, who obtained computer files. One of these -- a file named "19" -- appears to be the last will and testament of at least two of the 19 hijackers who carried out the September 11 attacks, the document said.

CAMDEN, New Jersey, May 8 (Reuters) - Six suspected Islamic radicals were detained on Tuesday on charges of plotting to attack the U.S. army base at Fort Dix in New Jersey with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons.
The group, which is not believed to have links to any foreign organizations, had amassed semi-automatic assault rifles, shotguns and handguns while trying to acquire the more sophisticated weaponry, federal authorities said.
The men, aged 22 to 28, included three brothers born in the former Yugoslavia who ran a roofing business. One Jordanian-born suspect was a Philadelphia taxi driver and a Turkish-born man worked as a convenience store clerk.
The suspects conducted surveillance of Fort Dix and other U.S. military installations in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, plotting attacks inspired by an international call for holy war against the West, officials said.
They settled on Fort Dix as a target because one suspect knew it well from a previous job delivering pizza to the base, U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie told a news conference, citing evidence from two FBI informants who infiltrated the group.
"Today we dodged a bullet," said Jody Weis, the FBI agent in charge of the Philadelphia field office. "What we are witnessing here is kind of a brand new form of terrorism."
The suspects were identified as Eljvir, Dritan and Shain Duka, three Yugoslav-born brothers who were illegal aliens; Turkish-born U.S. resident Serdar Tatar; Yugoslav-born U.S. resident Agron Abdullahu; and Mohamad Shnewer, a U.S. citizen born in Jordan.
"My intent is to hit a heavy concentration of American soldiers, light up four or five Humvees full of soldiers," Christie quoted one of the suspects as saying.
They also discussed attacking two U.S. warships when they docked in Philadelphia and staging an attack on the annual Army-Navy college football game, prosecutors said.

give it a week or a month, and they'll all be released because of no evidence...as usual...but by that time the propaganda's desired influence will still hold...
manufacturing terror threats with fbi informants involved seems to work well for the terrorists...

P4B that psycho went after unarmed students at VT i dont think he would get very far attacking an army base.Up here in Canada there were a bunch of Islamic terrorists that were going to storm the parliment building and hold our prime minister hostage and behead a whole bunch of other politicians {they would of done us a favor actually but thats just my opinion}anyway these clowns got caught because neighbors saw them training with guns and running through the forrest screaming ALLAH ACKBAR ALLAH ACKBAR so if this is the best that these guys can come up with i dont think we have to worry too much. What about the shoe bomber on the plane that got caught trying to light his shoe,I think bin laden and his sister had kids and thats the result.

Surprise, surprise, another impractical Terror Plot in America. 6 untrained civilians attacking a Military base are going to accomplish what exactly? Perhaps I'm slightly jaded coming from a navy town with several bases, but first hand experience with base security tells me that a car full of questionable, armed individuals is going to arouse suspicion at the gate.
What I find amusing is the fact that this "plot" seems to have been solved by nothing more than rutine police work. Not by Data Mining our communications or illegal wiretaping sans FISA approval. Just tried, proven methods. The same methods we've been told won't work in this "Post 9/11 world"

To oversimplify this problem as a clash of cultures is not only misguided, its foolhardy. The problem rests with any sort of radical religious interpretation, and lucky us, thats who we have today.
Take a look at history Ambler, just a few hundered years ago you could easily replace Islam in you sentence with Catholicism. Or have we forgotten the crusades, the multiple bloody attempts at retaking the holy land and for what? Nothing. Then came the Inquisition, and those who were deemed blasphamers or those who did not match the accepted level of devotion to official church doctrine found themselves in the clutches of thoroughly pious tortures. For the love of god, The Catholic church fought scientific fact, and quite ruthlessly too. Do you suppose enemies of the church echoed your sentiment amberler, that this religion was "a threat to the life they enjoyed?"
This is one of the very reasons I moved away from organized religion. It seems common sense goes right out the window when these discussions pop up. Yes radical Islam is dangerous, just like radical Christianity and any other radial interpratation of anything. There's no difference between terrrorists of any religion. 72 virgins is just as idiotic as a Path To Heaven for bombing an abortion clinic.
And to conclude this overly long post, I find myself compeled to point out the massive difference between VT and Fort Dix. This would not be an unarmed populous, untrained and confused. These are TRAINED Military personel and they'll be "packing heat" as the expression goes. More worrisome is the idea that these untrained Jihadists could somehow overpower our well trained Military on U.S. soil. Has our once proud military fallen that low?
Food for thought:[URL="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/02/13/national/main2466711.shtml"]
This bloodbath was stopped by ONE off-duty cop. You doubt our military could do better?

Duh. they were going to attack a "MILITARY" base in wartime. We should have let them go, those guards at the gate with M-16s, they have fully loaded magazines in them and are trained to look for any suspicious idiots that may pose a threat, and are fully trained in killing. it would have been Bye-Bye birdie for those guys, they may have got off a lucky shot, but their demise would have been swift and sure, no long drawn out court bullshit.

I have taken a look at history, Islam has had a lust for blood since it's very inception. Islam has spread through violence and fear for centuries. Yes the catholic church had a few ropey years, but it has moved on, Islam hasn't it is still using the same primitive doctrine and applying the same stone age laws to people today.
Are you afraid of the Catholic Church now?
Are you as afraid of Hindus as you are Muslims?

You're looking at this too narrow-mindely fish. Yeah, in terms of ultimate physical damge they probably wouldn't have gotten too far but...
- Soldiers on a base in Iraq are on high alert. Soldiers on a base in New Jersey are on pizza alert. In other words, you can cause a lot more damage to someone who isn't expecting it. Sure, they'd be shot down pretty quickly but they'd be sure to take out a decent amount of U.S. soldiers in the process.
-The damage (gain for them) would be more psychological than anything. "We'll attack your bases no matter where you are" Whether or not they were gunned down in the first few minutes they'd score a big victory for the bad guys in this regard. These crazy Albanians would be the best recruiting tool that radical Islam has ever seen. Well...after G. "Dubya" Bush that is ;).

Just as a side note to this: How much of our freedom are we willing to give up for a false sense of security. You can't be protected entirely at all times no matter how much police presence is available, no matter how many draconian laws are enacted. Just remember Hitler and his Hitler youth where the kids were encouraged to rat on their parents or anything they saw out of place. We're not that far from that now, with CPS and the schools being ever more invasive into family affairs. What ever happened to the Family unit, where the family was the most important structure for the Kids and everyone in the family. If we lose that, we're doomed! You always need a place to come back to. When my mom died, I lost that feeling then realized it was now up to me to provide that for my kids and grandkids, so the family stays together. Family values, thats the real importance of living.

Well im not trying to downplay anything i just think it says something about their intelligence that they would attack a hard target like a military base when they could of hit a power plant or something like that. With dumbasses like that it makes you wonder how and why they got away with 9/11.

Actually it does say something about their intelligence. Look at it from a different point of view. Say, from a boxing point of view. You've got a guy who a decent fighter, not pro or anything but ok, and he wants a fight. He can choose either Mike Tyson or some kid who he can easily destroy. If he chooses the kid he would beat the crap out of him and folks would just say "oh well, what an ass, he should have picked on someone his own size". Instead though, he decides to go up against Tyson and gets the shit beat out of him. But a lot of people give him props for trying and he earns a lot of respect for doing it. Get it now???

I just stumbled across a story that caught my eye.
Entrapment issue raised in alleged Fort Dix terror plot - baltimoresun.com
Not to downplay the potential for attacks on our country, but why report every plot as deadly serious. This sounds all too similar to the terror plot in south Florida, where another bunch of wannabe's decided to play dress up and run around in plain sight "training for Jihad."
On a lighter note, I did notice the Homeland Security Threat Level was not publicly rased to OrangishRed or whatever the hightened state of alert is colored these days. In fact, what happened to that convenient color chart?
-
Fort Dix murder plot foiled, 6 arrested
It doesnt surprise me one bit about the actions of the FBI its there job to catch the bad guy and if they have to help them in picking targets or getting guns then they will it does sound like entrapment but we dont know the whole story. If these guys are dumb enough to attack an army base then they might be dumb enough to have that idea planted in their head by someone else. But who knows? I think that color chart was put in place to scare the population during the last election so people would vote for Bush because he can protect you.Ever since the election you dont hear much about terror alerts anymore but then again the color chart did its job so its not needed anymore
