Quite a serious issue here...
hey all,
I am needing some input on this situation.
I called my folks today just to bullshit. They live about an hour away from me in a small town. Now, backtrack a bit: About 6 years ago, my mothers brother (not blood, both adopted) got sent to prison. He had been involved with some pretty serious stuff involving hard drugs and prositutes. I don't want to go into details as he is a head sick man and he hurt a lot of people. He included betraying his own mother by using her credit, under her name, while he spent hoards of cash. He eventually got arrested for other things other than identity theft, of his own mother.
Now, my grandmother (my mom's mother) had developed Alzhiemers and eventually passed away. Him, now in jail, and no one to pay off all of thesse thousands, of dollars of spending, my mother was there to help. They had to sell my grandmothers house, everything she owned went to auction, and my mom and dad helped pay off the rest.
Fastforward: More charges got added due to my mom having no choice but to clear her mother by telling police what he had did, and what condition she had found her mothers home in, due to his hard drug use.
She got a letter last year telling us his parole got denied, and he WILL get out, Sept. 2007. They said he has not gotten better and could be a serious harm to others.
That's only a few months away and my mom is scared shitless. It's not hard to find out where they live, and she told me repeatedly that he holds grudges, along with the warning we got from the federal prison, she is understandably scared. My uncle, her brother, somehow feels she is responsible for prolonging his sentence...which in a way, she did, for good reason.
I am moving out of Vancouver a few houses down from where they are. I am moving closer to them, not just to help protect them of "just in case", but it's a nice small town where I will be working and continuing my education.
This is my question: protection?. What do you suggest I do to protect us from a potentially dangerous man who may be out for revenge? I have no problem buying a firearm, but my folks cannot know about it, as they are against them, by all means. Me, on the other hand, wouldn't hesitate for a second to remove his inner skull material with pleasure. ;)
What do you suggest?

If you are absolutely certain he'll come after your parents anyway, get a restraining order. With that said, if it's a possibility he'll leave you guys alone, I wouldn't get one, because it might provoke him.
-
Quite a serious issue here...
Thats some serious shit man... have them get new locks on theyre doors and an alarm system just for added safety. and a restraining order.
EDIT: and go get that firearm. get a 45 or a 9mm. and dont forget the hollow tips
-
Quite a serious issue here...
im sorry but a restraining order wont do shit.
-
Quite a serious issue here...
yeah other than a restraining order i would say get a rottweiler (maybe two). There great pets and watchdogs. They can hold your shit down.
then theres always extreme measures, like witness protection.
-
Quite a serious issue here...
A restraining order is obviously going to be done, but that doesn't stop him from coming there when they're sleeping.
Security is another option I will mention to them. An alarm of some kind to at least warn them if something happens.
I was thinking one of those systems where if the alarm goes off, a call automatically goes to the police or something. That'd be good too.
Using a firearm is a last resort for me, but if I have to, I won't hesitate if he comes around here.
-
Quite a serious issue here...
fuck a restraining order. buy a gun.
and don't waste your time or money with a 9mm. if you're going to do it, do it right. i'd suggest a desert eagle .50 ....but that's just me. :D

lol he needs to stop a man not an armored vehicle... seriously go out and 45 or maybe just a nice pump shotty like a mossberg or an M3 super 90 if u r feeling particularly bad-ass

a dog really might not be a bad idea. At the very least it would be able to let your parents know someone was there.

Quite a serious issue here...
restraining order, gun, cell phone (and keep it on you at all times) the restraining order is of course the first defense... the cell phone to enforce it... the second anything happens, train that gun on him, and call the cops on the cell phone... even if you are eventually aquitted of murder, or the police rule i tself defense, there is ALOT of stress and shit in between.... best thing imo, to avoid all of this... is to get him back in prison... the goal of course is to have him break the restraining order, so he's sentenced back ot prison, safely away from everyone innocent...
as for what kinda gun, you don' tneed much (unless he's into PCP, even crackheads drop after a shot or two... but for some reason, PCP seems to make people completely immune to pain, and even worse, makes them superman.... check the stories for yoruself if you don't believe me... there've been stories where some guy gets a whole clip in him and just keeps coming) just get a 9MM, unless he's into pcp as mentioned, you might wanna invest in something with a little more stopping power... a .45 or shotgun should do...
kiling someone, even in self defense will more than likely weigh on your conscience for a long time (i haven't done it, but i can imagine how terrifying it would be..) not to mention what i stated above, the stress of the investigation (And there will be one, even if everything appears 100% legit) so you should really, try to get him back in prison or mental institution...
i dunno how things work up there, but down here it only takes a few family members to commit someone... have you considered this?
-
Quite a serious issue here...
a gun would be my first choice, but whatever you do, don't get a damn desert eagle. thats hollywood man, a desert eagle is way too big for most people to handle unless you have bear claws for hands. good advice with not a 9mm. 9s are better used defensively if you throw it at your target. seriously. you can't beat a good old fashioned .45 acp for stop in their tracks knock down power. and in the case of home defense with a weapon, bigger isn't always better. if you're not comfortable with a 45 go smaller. but be sure you're comfortable with the weapon.
-
Quite a serious issue here...
it might not hurt to go to the gun range with a few boxes of ammo a couple of times either....
firing a gun is not just point it in a general direction and firing... o.0 that's what i thought too... doesn't quite work that way tho...
-
Quite a serious issue here...
I say you get a restraining order and a hand gun. All the restraining order will do is add a little time to his sentence if he is out for revenge. But that is enough reason.
I agree with you getting a firearm. I remember when I was last looking at hand guns they were about 500 + dollars. I think you can get them a lot cheaper at gun shows but have never rembered to go to the few I knew about... Also, make sure you know how to use it. Since your parents are against gus, I assume you don't have a lot of experience with them. Take a training course if you have to.
I also agree with slip to have your cell phone with you at all times. My cell is rarely in a different room than I am. That is mainly because I'm a paranoid person though.
You can never be too safe when you are worried some crazy ass fuck is going to try and do you and your family harm.
Not sure what the laws are in your area. Make sure you don't end up in jail if you have to shoot him. Some areas in the States even say you can only use a weapon of equal or lesser quality in order to defend your home, I think. Basically, you can't shoot a man breaking into your house with a knife. You have to shoot him...
I'm ending this because I'm not even positive this last paragraph is correct info.

Yea i would reccomend keeping a hand-gun closeby but the only worie is that someone will get to the gun before you then you are fuked...

not when you take gun handling responsibly and keep the clip and gun in seperate spots... people are quick to bring up the fact you have an unloaded gun and what good does that do, but a gun alone is enough to thrwart almost any attack (whether it has ammo or not)... next, you don't store the shit on other sides of the house.... you know where that clip is, and you can grab both gun and clip (magazine if you wanna get technical, here is a diffrence between clip and magazine) in 5 seconds or less... whoever's breaking in or causing problems doesn't (no one but you should know where you keep the two things...) example.... keep the pistol it's self under hte bed, an the magazine on the top shelf of a closet... just an example.... somethign happens, you grab the gun, go to the closet, and you're ready... (just incase anyone wants to take it past this point, if homedude is already in your room, even if the gun was loaded it probably wouldn't be too much good.. if he's got that far already, you're pretty much fucked... the idea is to catch them right when they enter your house, not when they creep in your bedroom.)

I'd get a .357.
My uncle has one of those and since the first time I shot it I've always wanted one.
because sentences are handed down by judges, it's not counseling... or mental institution, at the end of that sentence they can't bring up some review board to say they're not fit to go back, and have them stay in longer.... once their time is up, their time is up, reguardless of ANYTHING... there is no choice but to let them go...
a .357 isn't all it's cracked up to be... 6 shots (or 7 as with my friends) extremely slow on the pull... and sometimes in those matters, yoru life is literally in the hands of your ability to hold that gun on a target (which isn't exactly easy with something of such kick... he even had a compensated barrel, and i still had to pause a second to aim the next shot) and fire for all your worth...
although the one major plus for revolvers is no jamming or problems... unless you throw it in sand and then sink it in water for a week.. then you might have a problem....
-
Quite a serious issue here...
well not just the weight, the quickness as well, but mostly yeah the weight on it... his didn't have a hair trigger, but i doubt even if it did i could pull it as fast as with his glock... it's just the design, it takes alot more time for that wheel to spin around, then the slide to eject a casing, and chamber another round...

dude, i'm telling you... either a desert eagle .50, a .45, a .44 magnum, or like someone mentioned earlier, a .357. though if you're a poor fucking shot, you probably don't want to go with a revolver. and all this talk of 500+ dollars for a handgun... well yes, there are plenty that fall into that price range, but just the same, as mentioned before, you can find them cheaper at gun shows. as a matter of fact, i just recently visited a gunshow and purchased another handgun to add to my collection. i spent a total of $160 USD for a .40 semi auto pistol, and 70 rounds (50 target shots, 20 hydra shoks). bought the gun BRAND NEW and it hasn't given me a single problem so far. i'm confident that it would fulfill my needs for laying a mother fucker flat on his back. i sleep with a pistol religiously. but i live in the ghetto, so it's nothing unusual. :D

i dobut he even has the strength/frame to handle such a weapon (which is by no means saying you'r ea pussy.... desert eagles aren't like you see in the damn movies dude... it takes goliath hands to hold onto that gun alone... much less hold it securely and fire it....)
long story short, that's serious overkill, and way more expensive then someone needs to get into (if not the gun it's self then the damn ammo) for defense... that gun is an offensive weapon, and there's no way around that...
you also have to take into consideration he very may well have neighbors closer then a half mile, and sheetrock is not gonna stop that massive fucking bullet...
i don't agree with H4H tho (for once) a 9MM will suffice, and do so just fine... think you can put 3+ bullets in him? out of a standard 15 capacity magazine?

I would do everything everyone here has said. I do believe in guns....but only to those who both know how and are willing to use them. Otherwise someone completely innocent stands a very good chance of getting hurt instead.
The law is BS...get a restraining order but realize that it is only a piece of paper and will provide you with the same amount of protection as one.
Large dogs are a good idea but they are living, breathing, feeling animals. Are they willing to take on an animal that may be pretty strong and not good with small pets or children? How about the vet bills? do they have a good fenced yard? etc etc. A dog isn't "an answer" ...it is a big commitment.
a good alarm system as also a good idea.
Get in good with the neighbors and have them watch for you as well. Use all eyes you can get.
Good luck and frankly I don't think you are being paranoid here....you are being realisitic.

I went through a period of a couple months where I had a knife under my bed, Blast Knuckles hidden in my desk, and some emergency PCP laced pot packed in a 1 hitter bat (They were some big guys that were after me).
I prefer the stun gun as the people who were after me wouldn't of killed me, but damn close. They were a little mad that I transported something for a rival and wanted me beaten senseless, and they are known to use only fists. I wanted a stun gun but couldn't get one, so I got the Blast Knuckles as they feel very solid in your hands, act as brass knuckes, and pack a bit of a punch. Air Tasers are the way to go if you are looking for a way to take someone down but not kill them or possibly shoot up your house with little holes and blood.
Gun: I highly recommend you buy a Glock if you are going to purchase a self-defense gun. They can be dropped from out of this atmosphere, go through all the different levels, hit the ground and still be fired*. They are extremely durable and can take a beating and still work great. The Glock 22 is a great gun that has a nice balance of stopping power and control. The gun can be fired relatively fast compared to a .357 which is slower than a Pentium 2 processor. In situations where you are going to be very scared, you are probably going to miss the first shot, that is where the .40 caliber comes into handy. The recoil is not alot so you can basically point and shoot off a few rounds accurately. Another great thing about Glocks is their high capacity magazines, 15 shots. You can hit a running target with 15 shots, just get some practice at a range and take a class if you want.
* Statement has not been tested by anyone, probably a complete lie.
I am glad to say I never had to use my Blast Knuckles on anyone, or had to use the emergency superman PCP as a last resort.
ps. 3rd video: That guy probably has shot 500+ rounds out of that thing and anticipates the recoil. 500+ shots would take many days out at the range because after shooting 3 rounds from a DE, I thought my wrist was broken (Just one hell of a kick).

yeah, th eonly downside to glocks is the lack of saftey.... which plays a major role in a family situation... but from wha ti remember, you (jagged and your woman) don't have a kid.... so go ahead....

So they can't be uncocked... That is a curse and a blessing, but a curse if you have kids. I like them because they are the ultimate "emergency" gun in my opinion. They are like the AK-47 of handguns, tested and proven through years of use. The glocks also require minimal maintenance and are very simply designed. I would boast more about them but I think he will get my point.
I know some shooting ranges have a selection of guns you can test fire. I bought my Bushmaster XM15 (M4A3 Carbine) because it was my favorite after shooting a couple different rifles at the range. By the way, rifles don't have stopping power, they just go through one side, out the other, and leave a nice wound.
Just read up on the Air Tasers and you will see why they are so effective. PCP eliminates pain, not protect your Central Nervous System. The Air Tasers are also alot more powerful than other shock devices and can be used at 15 ft away. The thing that might steer you away from this is that it is very short term. Once you let up on the trigger, he can rip out the probes and attack you, that is where a gun is better.
Have you ever considered concealed weapon classes?

oh i love glocks, don't take my post that way.. i was just letting him (and anyone else) knwo they pose a saftey issue to families....
the first PISTOL i ever fired was a glock, i love the glock.... you just gotta take a little more caution with them in practice issues (i.e. at the gun range) even tho extreme caution shoudl always be exercised, you can't put the gun on saftey when you go to take out the mag...

I just am wondering what this guy is really capable of doing??? if he is revengeful on someone he thinks kept him in jail,,,what is the point in doing something to that person that will land him right back??? kinda defeats the purpose... I do know that he has a sick mind,,,but is he stupid too??? pilfering money from ones Mom and physical abuse are two different catagories albeit both can exist in the same person,,,so is he violent as well???

c'mon... lol... even a 5 year old could point out he flaw in that....
alot of 'prisoners' don't give a shit about anything, they claim they want to stay outta jail, but within a month they're back... they think with one thing, and one thing only.. .they're manhood... and to them, once tha'ts been fucked with (including someone 'keeping him there longer') they think of one thing... revenge or how to get back... retaliation...
c'mon skink.. you're old enough to see the flaw in that thought.... if that process worked, we woudln't need even half the jails we have.

Snub nose .38 w/ hollow points. Small, conceilable, easy to wield, and has the power to stop a crazed crackhead at close range.
