Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. â??Mikeâ?� Duncan released the following statement in response to the 2008 Republican Presidential Debate at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California:


â??Maybe there really are two Americas: one of promise and opportunity that Republicans talked about tonight, and one of retreat and disappointment that the Democrats talked about last week.â?�


â??A week ago, America saw eight Democrats rush to the left. They argued to see who would be the first to leave Iraq to the terrorists, and who was most enthusiastic about raising our taxes.


â??Tonight, in contrast, the Republican candidates laid out their positive visions for America. They talked about strategies to win the War on Terror, and how to keep our taxes low so our economy will continue to grow and create jobs. The contrast with last week could not have been more stark.â?�

I think it's funny as hell that Ron Paul got the highest ratings(idk now at least for a while). I don't know. I don't see any republicans that could carry both primary and general.

Anyone see Mike Gravel on Colbert?

I saw Mr.Gravel haha and I agree, none of these people are votable in my book. Even as a republican. But i'd rather throw myself into traffic than to vote Democrat. I guess it'll end up being a lesser of two evils thing...what a shame.

I find it a bit ironic that a Republican debate is on Liberal News R Us but what the hell.

I liked Romney, McCain and especially Hunter. I think a ticket featuring any two of these gentlemen would mean ultimate defeat for the "Defeat-O-Cons.

Mcain is good but he said that he'd be okay with the overturn of Roe v. Wade and thats shady as hell but besides that, im good.

All I saw was a bunch of good old boy white dudes tryin to see who could be the whitest. "Look at me, I'm the whitest of the white". all pushing their warmongering bullshit along with their hooray for excess profit and lower taxes for the rich. Privatize everything and let the corporations rule. That pretty much sumed it up as I saw it. Repubes all the way. I'm open for wagering on the next election...... I think the people have had enough of this insanity. the only way the repubes win, VOTE FIXING.

Isnt it funny how whenever the republicans get into office or when something doesnt go their way the dems say were 'fixing votes'...hmmmm

There is something about Romney that strikes me as slimey. Maybe it was how he worked in the name "Reagan" in every other sentence.

I liked Tommy Thompson's response and plan on Iraq at the beginning, but he lost any momentum by the end.

Even, my boy, Ron Paul, stumbled a bit on the "Most important thing you have ever done that affects other people" question.

All-in-all, I was glad to see the fringe candidates get some air time, and it was sweet that Ron Paul won the poll. Other then that no one stood out as the next RR.

I kinda like Newt but I dunno, havent seen him around much..

I could honestly care less...I'm going to vote for the person more geared towards medical marijuana/decriminalization/legalization of marijuana...Anyone can lead this country better than the bush administration has.

edit...my first choices right now are mike gravel and bill richardson..would be nice for me to see either one of them make it.

Newt is alright but I think that he's to far right to be considered electable. They're all playing it up with the Reagan talk though.......I can't wait for the day when McCain states, "I worked for R. Reagan, was friends with R. Reagan and sir.....you are no R. Reagan."

2 Bills, you're a high roller, too steep for me, I'm just a lowly pensioneer with a fixed income, did i say fixed, it's more like broken, but I'll stand you for a twenty, anything more and I'd have to hock one of my Guns, and you know that wouldn't do. I probably shouldn't bet against the voting machines (You know darn well what I'm talkin about) but with enough Voter turn out and if they mandate a paper trail on those crooked machines, I'm pretty sure your guys are goin down. So put me in for a Jackson!

Ron Paul was the only one I had any respect for....If you listened carefully one of the candidates I believe it was Duncan Hunter said that their is plenty the president can do to ADVOCATE rascism ( I thought that was funny). In response to the "Democrats want to cut and run comments"...What if in the long run we cannot win this war...Magical thinking will not win it, it will only waste more precious American lives....you can believe that this war is like the little engine that could, and if we just think we can and think we can than we will win...that seems to be the message the President is sending. Uhh, are you in cahoots with the crooked Machine folks? I'm guessin you know your team can't win without cheating, so we'd better get those paper trail thingys on the table quick. I still say the old voting cards with a punch hole are more reliable, as long as you dont have die hard repubes counting votes. In Nevada, there is a paper trail, a printout of your vote is supposed to be perused by you before you push the button to cast your vote. Then it is stored in the machine on a paper tape that could be used to authenticate the vote, much better than just the electronic tabulator. It would look pretty fishy if all those tapes came up missing. Subverting the vote should be a capital offense, unless of course, my candidate uses it to win ~LOL~.

Ron Paul has my vote.

He clearly was the best canidate for the republican party if they want to win the general election. Honestly he appeals to me because he is honest and remains true to what our country is supposed to be about. You can guarantee if he becomes president MJ will become freer.

Obviously he wasnt the best looking or the slickest sounding. But he was clearly the most sincere and honest.

Look at his prior voting record he has remain consistent through he tenure in congress. You really can't say that about any of the other characters. If you look at the other canidates personal life (which is supposed to matter to Republicans right?) he has the highest degree of integrity. Good luck finding real dirt on him.

Also he may have some pretty reactionary views, but congress will balance him out on those things.

Finally he is probably the poorest of the canidates for the Republican party. That translates into him having a better connection with the majority of Americans. He is after all middle class too.

I like some of Ron pauls stuff, no doubt the sincerity thing goes a long way. I'd just say to all that are enamored with Paul, look into the true roots of libertarianism and make a value judgement based on what libertarianism would mean for you. If you are wealthy, it's a no brainer, vote for paul. If you are less than upper middle class, take a long hard look at the values placed on society by libertarians and avoid the smoke and mirrors, Middle class and down would not benefit from a libertarian government, in fact, they would be dessimated by it.
