Does this sound racist to you?

I play an mmorpg called Runescape. I'm sure many of you are familiar with it. Well, today they put a message on their main page that made me raise my eyebrow.

1. I hardly think playing a video game qualifies as working in a sweatshop. I mean, I actually pay to play the game. So when they compare playing this game to working in a sweatshop, I just think that's a ridiculous statement.

2. I hardly think it's right to assume if you're chinese that must mean you work in a sweatshop.

I don't know if it is necassarily just people from China and Korea that are doing that....I imagine it's people from everywhere...

..I have heard of that happening though in Final Fantasy(have some friends overly obsessed with it...)

I don't know if thats necessarily racists, as that is a huge problem...and it's really sad....

I do in a sense find it racists because it kind of seems they are generalizing all Koreans and Chinese are going to do that...

..but in fact I have heard of shit like that happening not even in just those places...but people do it for their personal wealth sometimes and I hear you can make alot of money...

If they claim there are sweatshops that do that in those countries, it is possible ya know? I don't know..

Racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another race or races. It is also the prejudice based on such a belief.

It's somewhat racist (people from China, Korea, etc) but they may be going by IP addresses. Nice of you to stop by and insult everyone.....thanks.

I saw something on MTV about WoW where the chinese gold farmers sit in these single rooms apartments, like 23-30 people in a small room and do absolutely NOTHING but play the game, 24/7, 365 days a year man. It really does seem like sweatshop settings.

The company that runs the game is just trying to crack down on a practice that is against their rules.
A lot of the violaters happen to be rather ingenious people from asia. But the issue is the the violation, not the race.

Same thing happened with Diablo, and I hear it's happening now with Wow. I hear the exchange rate for Wow gold is 10 to the dollar. As if our economy wasn't virtual enough already.

Erm, im not sure that's racist, although it made me raise my eyebrow like yourself. I think it's wrong of the to assume, ANYONE could be doing, anywhere in the world. Maybe they've only caught people in china and korea doing it blah blah blah, but really, they should have specified any of that.

If they are being made to do this - i'd assume there will be alot of people in a small space doing the same thing day in day out being paid hardly anything - i could see why they'd call it a sweatshop.

Nah, it's not. They aren't demeaning China or Korea in any way. They must know where their players are and the ones they catch doing this are probably mostly from China and Korea.
