The 'Amero': What of sovereignty?


Will Americans trade their dead presidents for Ameros?
The Amero -- replacing the American and Canadian dollars and the Mexican peso -- will be the coin of the realm of the North American Union, a looming NAFTA-like superstate composed of Canada, Mexico and the United States, according to Human Events Online.

But the Amero is not a new concept. The Fraser Institute, a Canadian think tank, published "The Case for the Amero" in 1999.

The three heads of state issued a joint announcement about a "trilateral partnership" after meeting at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in March 2005. "The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" supposedly will lead to the free-market movement of people, capital and trade across the borders.

Canadians, Mexicans and Americans who value the sovereignty of their respective countries should be concerned.

The Council on Foreign Relations published a report in May -- "Building a North American Community" -- calling for, among other things, redefining the borders of the three nations, creating a super-regional governance board and the North American Paramilitary Group to ensure that Congress does not interfere with whatever the trilateral union feels like doing.

Must the Bush administration happily sacrifice every shred of American sovereignty for the greater good of the New World Order?

Currency's are either on a peg, float, or basket. IF this were to happen wouldn't it also effect all the countries that are pegged to the dollar?

Well in England they still use the british pound.So maybe they will use both the American dollar and the new currency,i just dont see it working because our prime minister is against the idea of a unified dollar.Unless he is full of shit.Why cant they just #$$#%#$ leave things alone.We already have a free trade agreement why this bullshit?

England decided to keep the pound their the official currency so I can't see us having both.

Another thing is standard of living, etc........just seems to me that economically the only one to really gain off this would be Mexico. I hope your right about your Prime Minister.:thumbsup:

True about England and they are still in the European Union so i dont know how that works.The only one to gain would be Mexico true but also corporations would benifit.I think they are the driving force of this.But like you said before how would it effect the rest of the world since the greenback is the major currency of almost all international transactions.Why would a government want to fuck with that?Unless your dollar is in serious trouble and on the verge of collapse,but i dont see that.But there has to be something.

Our GDP still exceeds our debt along with a low unemployment rate, low inflation rate.......I can't see the $ in real trouble.

p4b- all other countries pegged on the dollar (due to the world bank, or imf mostly) would be affected... it would probably be devastating in the undeveloped countries.

fish- you're right, the companies are benefiting.. from what i've read, mexico is being set up as the next big port, b/c its significantly cheaper than a port in the United States (all the 40k salaries for people and whatnot). China has its stake in this project, and it will drive down the cost of goods imported from china. This is why the highway from Mexico to Canada is part of the SPP as well.

xblack awww thats why, see there had to be something.As far as i know your longshoremen who work on the docks are bloody well paid close to 80k a year and up.So thats another bloody blow to the average joe.Then they will get the cheap mexican truckers to haul everything up here.So you can say goodbye to those fucking jobs.As well as the manufacturing jobs that go to China and Mexico.Pretty soon we will have 2 classes of people on this continent the very rich and the working poor.Sad......

You've absolutely nailed it! Here's the rub: most median income familys in USA have at least a 200 thousand dollar mortgage with payments from 1500 per mo. and up. How in the heck will these people be able to survive on minimun wages when their good paying (Union) jobs are history? Truck drivers that earn a living wage (40-80 K) will be replaced by Mexican truckers that earn ???. Dock workers you already mentioned, and all the support people the trucking industry supports, Mechanics etc. I'm sure the truck mfg.s will have plants in mexico. So how much will the Amero be worth? the Peso is around ten for a dollar, and Canada is what 85 cents to a dollar, so pick a median figure, and a dollar would be about worth 20 cents, so the minimum wage would be about a buck fifty an hour, I can hardly wait, My pension will be about 250 Bucks a mo, and my mortgage is 800. I wonder what the banks will do? Devalue the worth of every loan to meet the value of the Amero. It's mind boggling.

Someone please explain to me why it would be a benefit to anyone to eliminate the middle class? Working poor only weight the system down more with the needed social programs to cover the "poor" side. And if no one can afford the products, will the rich stop being rich themselves? Wouldn't a combined economy also balance out the cost of living? We might get less pay but if the overall cost of living also goes down would anyone even flinch?

Yes I know its sad that every American can't afford there 60 inch HDTV and BMW's when theres people living in starvation all around the world.

Like I said, what happens to the $200,000+ mortgages that the average family owes? Will this now revert to like 25,000 Ameros, or 1,000,000 Ameros or just stay at 200,000+ ameros? If you make $20.00 an hour, will you make 100 ameros an hour? Will the average Canadian pay be say 10 Ameros an hour, the Americans 12 ameros an hour and the Mexicans 1 amero an hour? I guess if that were the case it would work, but then it wouldn't improve the living standards of either Mexico or Canada and would certainly fuck the Americans. I see this as a giant clusterfuck for all but the elites and corporations. You can now travel to Mexico and use the Greenback as regular currency, the Mexicans certainly know what it's worth, I haven't been to Canada in 30+ years, so don't know about the dollars status there, but exchange is not a big deal. BTW, I certainly don't see the government becoming more charitable. Dubya is cutting entitlements like crazy to pay for his warmongering friends profits. Student loans are now approaching the "Usery" status of interest rates. The costs of everything are skyrocketing (except homes) and wages have been stagnate for the last 6 years (except CEOs). Were moving to a dominant plutocracy, an oligarchy if you will and no-one seems concerned.

I don't see the US signing into this myself. Just isn't a good idea.

It's the US thats pushing for it, the plutocracy, the elites, the skull and bonesers, the Bushkies. The rich will survive, in fact I'm sure they'll benefit greatly. It's the middle class that will take it up the old culo, and when was the last time the middle class got a voice in anything?
