While we always appreciate hearing from our supporters on strategy, we're unlikely to pursue the tactic that you suggest, since in December we released a report showing that marijuana is in fact the number one cash crop in the U.S., exceeding the value of corn and wheat combined.

The study found that, despite decades of intensive marijuana "eradication" campaigns by the DEA, U.S. marijuana production increased tenfold from 1981 to 2006. Simply put, marijuana is not an endangered species.

I certainly agree that there is great cause for concern when one species is facing extinction. However, this is just not the case with marijuana, and we're confident that it won't ever be.

I am sorry that you don't feel you can support MPP in the tracks it has chosen to end marijuana prohibition, but I hope you'll consider subscribing to our e-mail alerts (at www.mpp.org/subscribe) and using them for the information and opportunities for action that they provide.

Wow congrats everyone!!! Can you imagine if only 4 soldiers;-)(we have more than 4 just in the organizers of this alone:-), responded with emails to these folks in the first round and caused our would be friends to wander out on to the battle field like the Emperor who wears no clothes, what would happen if they hear from 10 of us this time?

Mpp has completely confirmed what I've been trying to get across, every single 1 counts and changes the outcome of the sum.

One other big thing to notice about their efforts at damage control here in the area of revealing ones true nature is that like government, Mpp completely avoids the undeniable reality the we have come forward with in our efforts to remedy what's really wrong, ie "the web of life" by trying to divert the topic/discussion into the only "safe" zones they can see from their narrow windows.

One of those "safe zones" I have already mentioned in that they would like us to engage in an "argument" about how many folks really contacted them in response to our first plea as well as trying to feed us the illusion that our numbers are small and weak.

The other "safe zone" they have curled into is the out of breath statement quoted here;

Now either they have missed the whole point of the ESA angel because they didn't bother to read it well enough, or they are purposely misstating the point of the ESA angel in effort to divert others from the real point and intended result?

This is from the bulletin they received from me and others;

(notice the petition is clearly not about the cannabis folks are growing/cultivating for whatever reason)

(I might also add that the ESA angel is about having a federal judge declare an irreconcilable conflict of law and spanking the Controlled Substances Act because the science puts the Endangered Species Act in the trump card position)

So again I say to all, outstanding first collective effort for sure! Honestly I thought this first and very typical response from DC would have been another week in coming!!!

Here's my favorite and the most relevant part to us in the moment;

I am writing you today as others are in a plea for help on all our behalves and in effort to effect a simple remedy to a perceived complicated set of problems concerning outlawing plants and or genetically altering/mutating them for patenting and private ownership as well as other issues too many to name here. The simple solution I am talking about is to just stand up for the reality that we all share sometimes referred to as the birds and the bees or biosphere or web of life.



By "stand up" I mean just commit to sending some emails to key targets...:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />



The key targets are the "legalization" organizations and the media.



If the "legalization" organizations are aloud to proceed on their current path towards "legalization" it can only end up in one result which is corporate ownership of cannabis



And the genetic decimation of a species that might well prove to be our last hope for survival in the coming years.



If the organizations can be pressured into changing course immediately, then we will have the chance to bring cannabis and all other plants back to their rightful presence and function in life's web while at the same time stopping the GMO threat on all fronts.



My friends here at myspace have been working hard to prepare for this collective direct action that has the potential to do more to change/remedy our current circumstances than even congress or a president would have the power to do and all it will take is your individual action on this message.



We have a 3 pronged approach to solving the jurisdiction over life issue's;



1.



I have an individual case in federal court right now about to be ruled on by the 9th circuit court of appeals that goes to challenge governments jurisdiction to overrule and recreate the web of life that belongs to all life collectively. We are preparing a class action civil suit for injunctive relief in the same fundamental ways as my individual suit and that also seeks in part to establish in case law our collective declaration of interdependence which of course includes all life. I am writing you as a concerned supporter today. I am concerned with the way you are headed with the legalization of cannabis. I am asking as a supporter that you get out of congress and you get into court! This where we will end the outlawing of any plant and end the patenting of life all together. See there is this thing called theWEB OF LIFE, it
is something we all learned as kids and it states that all living species are inter-connected and interdependent ! If you remove one thing from the Web it affects all other living things ! There are conflicts constitutionally with the patenting of life and the prohibition of any plant! We are getting no-where in congress, this battle needs to be challenged in court ! See..... if you win your battle in congress then the power is going to be put in the wrong hands, few would benefit from this! If you challenge the constitutionality of the outlawing of plants and the patenting of life we will be giving our country back to the farmer, and to the people! We would all benefit from ending prohibition if done the right way!
I am not including any facts in this because you should already know the many,many reasons that cannabis should be used by all of us daily! If we allow you to stay your current path to legalization we will all lose! The corporations will win again and the average person loses out! We demand a better America, and what we are proposing to you will bring it! Don't you want to leave this world a better place than was left for us? Please do not blow this off, this is a serious matter and it needs to be addressed ASAP! There is a petition ready to be filed with the ESA stating that cannabis is an endangered species ! MY SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON GOD AND HIS HOLY SACRAMENT CANNABIS, WHICH HE GAVE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS... AS WELL AS MANY OTHER HERBS AND PLANTS.

Monsanto Corporation is out to own the world's food supply, the dangers of genetic engineering and reduced biodiversity notwithstanding, as they pig-headedly set about hog-tying farmers with their monopoly plans. We've discovered chilling new evidence of this in recent patents that seek to establish ownership rights over pigs and their offspring.

In the crop department, Monsanto is well on their way to dictating what consumers will eat, what farmers will grow, and how much Monsanto will get paid for seeds. In some cases those seeds are designed not to reproduce sowable offspring. In others, a flock of lawyers stand ready to swoop down on farmers who illegally, or even unknowingly, end up with Monsanto's private property growing in their fields.

One way or another, Monsanto wants to make sure no food is grown that they don't own -- and the record shows they don't care if it's safe for the environment or not. Monsanto has aggressively set out to bulldoze environmental concerns about its genetically engineered (GE) seeds at every regulatory level.

So why stop in the field? Not content to own the pesticide and the herbicide and the crop, they've made a move on the barnyard by filing two patents which would make the corporate giant the sole owner of that famous Monsanto invention: the pig.

The patent applications were published in February 2005 at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva. A Greenpeace researcher who monitors patent applications, Christoph Then, uncovered the fact that Monsanto is seeking patents not only on methods of breeding, but on actual breeding herds of pigs as well as the offspring that result.

"If these patents are granted, Monsanto can legally prevent breeders and farmers from breeding pigs whose characteristics are described in the patent claims, or force them to pay royalties," says Then. "It's a first step toward the same kind of corporate control of an animal line that Monsanto is aggressively pursuing with various grain and vegetable lines."

There are more than 160 countries and territories mentioned where the patent is sought including Europe, the Russian Federation, Asia (India, China, Philippines) America (USA, Brazil, Mexico), Australia and New Zealand. WIPO itself can only receive applications, not grant patents. The applications are forwarded to regional patent offices.

The patents are based on simple procedures, but are incredibly broad in their claims.

In one application (WO 2005/015989 to be precise) Monsanto is describing very general methods of crossbreeding and selection, using artificial insemination and other breeding methods which are already in use. The main "invention" is nothing more than a particular combination of these elements designed to speed up the breeding cycle for selected traits, in order to make the animals more commercially profitable. (Monsanto chirps gleefully about lower fat content and higher nutritional value. But we've looked and we couldn't find any "Philanthropic altruism" line item in their annual reports, despite the fact that it's an omnipresent factor in their advertising.)

According to Then, "I couldn't belive this. I've been reviewing patents for 10 years and I had to read this three times. Monsanto isn't just seeking a patent for the method, they are seeking a patent on the actual pigs which are bred from this method. It's an astoundingly broad and dangerous claim."

Good breeding always shows

Take patent application WO 2005/017204. This refers to pigs in which a certain gene sequence related to faster growth is detected. This is a variation on a natural occurring sequence -- Monsanto didn't invent it.

It was first identified in mice and humans. Monsanto wants to use the detection of this gene sequence to screen pig populations, in order to find which animals are likely to produce more pork per pound of feed. (And that will be Monsanto Brand genetically engineered feed grown from Monsanto Brand genetically engineered seed raised in fields sprayed with Monsanto Brand Roundup Ready herbicide and doused with Monsanto Brand pesticides, of course).

But again, Monsanto wants to own not just the selection and breeding method, not just the information about the genetic indicators, but, if you pardon the expression, the whole hog.

Claim 16 asks for a patent on: "A pig offspring produced by a method ..."
Claim 17 asks for a patent on: "A pig herd having an increased frequency of a specific ...gene..."
Claim 23 asks for a patent on: "A pig population produced by the method..."
Claim 30 asks for a patent on: "A swine herd produced by a method..."
This means the pigs, their offspring, and the use of the genetic information for breeding will be entirely owned by Monsanto, Inc. and any replication or infringement of their patent by man or beast will mean royalties or jail for the offending swine.

Not pig fodder

When it comes to profits, pigs are big. Monsanto notes that "The economic impact of the industry in rural America is immense. Annual farm sales typically exceed US$ 11 billion, while the retail value of pork sold to consumers reaches US$ 38 billion each year."

At almost every level of food production, Monsanto is seeking a monopoly position.

The company once earned its money almost exclusively through agrochemicals. But in the last ten years they've spent about US$ 10 billion buying up seed producers and companies in other sectors of the agricultural business. Their last big acquisition was Seminis, the biggest producer of vegetable seeds in the world.

Monsanto holds extremely broad patents on seeds, most, but not all of them, related to Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Monsanto has also claimed patent rights on such non-Monsanto inventions as traditionally bred wheat from India and soy plants from China. Many of these patents apply not only to the use of seeds but all uses of the plants and harvest that result.

The big picture is chilling to anyone who mistrusts Monsanto's record disinterest for environmental safety.

And if you're not worried, you should be: central control of food supply has been a standard ingredient for social and political control throughout history. By creating a monopoly position, Monsanto can force dangerous experiments like the release of GMOs into the environment on an unwilling public. They can ensure that GMOs will be sold and consumed wherever they say they will.

By claiming global monopoly patent rights throughout the entire food chain, Monsanto seeks to make farmers and food producers, and ultimately consumers, entirely dependent and reliant on one single corporate entity for a basic human need. It's the same dependence that Russian peasants had on the Soviet Government following the Russian revolution. The same dependence that French peasants had on Feudal kings during the middle ages. But control of a significant proportion of the global food supply by a single corporation would be unprecedented in human history.

It's time to ensure that doesn't happen.
It's time for a global ban of patents on seeds and farm animals.
It's time to tell Monsanto we've had enough of this hogwash.

so the battle we fight really has almost nothing to do with cannabis accept that cannabis laws allow for a circumstance that provides a forum to then bring and prove the "web of life" science that will win the day and 4ever b built into case law to then build upon...
once we make this case law striking down gov authority to outlaw life or grant private ownership of life then that case law can b used and will effect a shift in policy all the way down the line, even to shifting our "elections" = system of gov and of course our war policies...

WOW, Right under our nose!

the "future food" video is excellent and extremely important; there aren't a lot of documentaries i'd say "everyone should watch" but this is one. diversity is essential to life, whether it be food or people :)

however, i don't agree that trying to clasify cannabis as part of the "web of life" is the most effective way to legalize it; honestly i think you're a bit out to lunch there; i don't see that working; you'd have to immediately legalize all plants including coccao, shrooms, all that; good luck, but i think it's silly and harmful to say "stop supporting law reform"

i do also agree that patenting an organism, a cell, or any living thing or part of a living thing is ridiculous and insane, no matter how genetically modified it might be. i suppose i understand that monsanto wanted for folks to have to pay for their grain, rather than store it, or farmers to breed it themselves, but the what happened was unbelievable; hopefully it will lead to their downfall

It seems odd to me that the human race is determined to wipe themselves out, If not by a bomb, or pollution or by an astroid hit then by starvation.

When you control the food.......you control the people.

Putting a patent an a living organism i wrong, I the future this sould lead to genetically altering baboons or chimps with human dna for higher brain function and create a whole new race of slave labor. Suddenly Planet of the Apes doesn't sound so far fetched, at least to me.
If they can take fish DNA and cross it into a tommoato plant then i am sure tey can cross monkey and human genes.
