VA Massacre Proves Government Can't Protect You

my thoughts as well, its why we the people should always be in control

The loudest message sent by what happened at Virginia Tech yesterday is that government cannot and will not protect you.

Contrast the events at VA Tech with the 1966 UT Tower shooting, which was until yesterday the deadliest shooting massacre on a University campus in America.

The shooter was Charles Whitman, a Marine Corps sniper who carried out his killing spree enjoying "a nearly unassailable vantage point from which he could select and dispatch victims," according to Crime Library, armed to the teeth with an arsenal of high powered weaponry.

The Virginia killer was able to dispatch twice as many victims as Whitman despite having apparently little firearms skill, using only two relatively weak handguns and being surrounded by police and other civilians who could have attempted to apprehend him at any point.

The difference? 40 years ago cops were not cowards, they knew their job was to protect the public and they didn't hide behind trees while wearing bullet proof body armor and toting sub-machine guns, cowering in fear at the prospect of facing up to a punk with a pea-shooter.

They didn't wait for two hours as a killer roamed the campus without even warning the students.

The case of the UT Tower shooting when compared to the Virginia massacre illustrates perfectly how American men have been turned into weak yellow bellies who beg and plead for the equally spineless police to protect them in a crisis.

You guys act like they sit on there asses doing nothing, maybe so. But who is to predict a shooting like this. Not to mention the measures they would have to take to prevent this would be ridiculous, and probably would violate most of our rights, A place like VA shouldn't have metal detectors at doors, its simply shit that happens, some one fucked up lost it, what are we supposed to do about?

We really have no idea what happend there, for all they knew the guy barracaded himself in the building with guns, maybe he had hostages, the police dont just run it, they know worse shit can happen with force, maybe he had bombs he was gonna set off?

Tactic squads never run in a place they are unsure off.

Yeah the cops were outside standing around....but dont let them catch you drawing a picture of a gun

it was 2 hours between the shootings hmmm dont sound like the coppers doing there jobs, again

The only way the "government" could have "protected" us from this was if there was an armed officer following around every single person in the U.S., ready to step in if something bad was about to happen. If you'd be willing to have someone shadow you, hand on gun, for the rest of your life, I guess you have a beef. If not, then what's your point? (rhetorical question, please don't answer).

It was the fault of Bush and Cheney!!

The neocons orchestrated this massacre or at least knew of it and did nothing, they knew that most college students wouldnt vote for the republican (R) ticket so decided to take them out now.


What a joke! thinking the govt let this happen or wont protect you is ridiculous, as 1 writer above mentioned 'do you want police following each person around to class' ? of course not. In what ideal country would that police force have protected you? Canada? Spain? where???

This is a tragedy and could not have been foreseen I believe, sure the guy had problems but so do LOTS of college/high school/univ students, should all of them be placed in a lock down facility for up to 72 hrs because somebody believes they might be violent?

This is a tragedy and nobody to blame but the shooter.

When you find two dead bodies, one of a girl and one of a guy, the most common killer is the girls boyfriend. Thinking this, they called the girls roommate and found out that not only did her boyfriend have guns, he had taken them on a hunting trip not long ago. They then spent the next amount of time finding the boyfriend, only to find out his guns were at his parents house in boston.

The point is that they didn't even know there was someone still out there with a gun. All of the logical evidence pointed to the boyfriend in that two hour period.

That still doesn't excuse the fact that while the shooting was going on, not one copper tried to gain entry into the building where the shots were coming from, but instead hid behind cars and trees and block walls. Not one brave soul attempted to enter and take the shooter on. I've heard the doors were chained, then either ram them with a police car or shoot them (Glass doors) out with an M-16. there's no excuse besides cowardice. I've noticed that in most police confrontations with psychos, they wait for the shooter to stop shooting before gaining entry to the kill zone, does Columbine ring a bell? How many lives may have been saved had the police acted in a responsible manner? We'll never know. I watch the Military channel once in a while. Those brave GIs run towards the shooting, not away from it.

MED how true.Also how many cops does it take to find out if the boyfriend was responsible.Yes the cops did the right thing in checking out the boyfriend but they should of secured the area as well.Do a sweep of every building looking for somebody with a gun.

Lame. It's just lame, I have a permit to carry concealed weapon, and that's all it possibly would've taken to stop this guy. I head stories of students who took control in those classes, just think what one of those leaders could have done if he was armed.

Nope, don't count on the government for anything besides taxes. This is why I believe if the teachers were armed, maybe the death count could have been a lot less.

Right now most people that carry guns are criminals. Likewise most gun owners aren't criminals. If I were out in public I'd feel alot better about shit if I knew that that one crazy bastard was outgunned by people like Medicinal.
