Shooting triggers hostility against America (like we need anymore of that)

I know, I vowed not to watch Fox News Channel again, but as I'm reading the scrolling news at the bottom, there seems to be a lot of hostility and 'I told you so' comments from international newspapers; one Italian source claims the shooting massacre is "As American as apple pie."

Don't any of these news outlets realize the shooter wasn't even American? He was a South Korean on a GreenCard...

I don't see why American people are being put to trash here. Not to say that anyone should receive blame aside from the actual shooter, this isn't an isolated case to America.

If you take a look at Wikipedia, out of the 36 shootings listed, almost half are from outside of the United States.

The media is a huge factor in promoting school shootings aswell. Most of the shooters in these cases learn from prior shootings and the mass media that flock to it. If the media would only focus on delivering well wishes instead of placing blame, it would help prevent hostility.

CNN claimed earlier yesterday that he lined 'em up, reports are now confirming he just went all willy nilly into the classrooms.

if you were in class and someone started shooting
you would run out of there and so would all the other
classes.it does make sense when they said he pulled out
chains and closed the doors. willy nilly dosnt sound right

the media is the problem. i would be willing to bet that your average every day italian feels no ill will towards america. the media and the television are a HUGE part of the problems that go on in this country. instead of calling up ol al sharpton for his opinion, these news companies should look to themselves before they start asking opinions of everyone else about what went wrong. video games and gun companies aren't to blame. if anyone besides the shooter needs to be blamed its cnn and fox news and all the other shit slingers out there. its just like with poor imus, bill maher made a great point last night on real time. he asked sharpton if it wasn't for the media would it be such a big deal? because he highly doubted that the girls b-ball team was listening to imus's show. it just goes to show that the media makes a shit storm out of everything just because they can.
and they do it on a giant scale, and right down to a little scale. my old fraternity got into a bunch of shit because a few of the members painted their faces black for a party with a 'rappers' theme. apparently the media got a hold of some pictures and caused a big ol stink. anymore the media doesn't report the news, they try to cause controversy. i think i'll stick with the newspaper from now on.

boilerup~ you hit the nail on the head. the media puts these guy's faces all over the place, every home in america now knows this guys name. maybe if they blatantly refused to put up his name or tell anything about him, it might just stop the next wack job from strapping up if he knows he'll be anonomyous. but dont tell the media that, they wouldn't stand for it.

Hating America is cool right now. What can I say? How far do you have to go to find some dumbass that'll spew a whole bunch of anti-Bush, anti-American sentiments with no actual idea of why they hate Bush or America? Not far.

Personally, I don't hate anywhere.. But at present I'm not a huge fan of the American government and some of what country represents. I wouldn't ever stoop as low as use a tragic event like this an excuse to get up on my pedestal and start talking shit.

any country that allows people to legally own guns makes it easier for sick barstards like this to do the unthinkable, i'm sure if we had the same gun laws it would happen more in this country.very sad world we live in, life to many is worthless. my heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by this.

Sick bastards will do what they want anyway, even if guns were illegal, the same thing could've happened. If the students had guns to protect themselves this wouldn't have happened. A silly concept at first you might say, but think about it.

If i was locked in the room i would've rushed him definately, i'm sure others would follow.

guns dont kill people..people kill people look at canada, how many school shootings/ shootings, happen here and evry one here owns guns, my family owns a few, used for hunting, and just about evey single person i know owns a gun or and get their hands on one pretty easily. and it isnt that hard to get a gun in canada either, im not sure how u get one in the states but all it takes here is a weekend course for ur licence.

And as for walking every two feet and finding people who easily bash the country and the President, you're right. Most of them DON'T have a good reason, and just say so to go along with the flow. What if the shooting was a government cover-up and it was the CIA was involved? cause nothing from this shooting makes scence. If all he had was a .22 he would have easily been over powered. You gotta reload sometime and if people were being lined up and shot i wouldn't let them do it. all it would take is someone to grab the barrel of the gun and point it away while someone else lodges some stationary into his temple. But i also heard from somewear that he had a ak-47. But still one man couldn't line people up and execute them noone in their right mind would stand there while the people beside them got their brains splattered on the lockers behind them.

Why the fuck to people have to do this? This guy had absolutely no right to take the lives of those 32 people. Too bad he killed himself. The asshole deserves to be sitting in jail for the rest of his life. And to all those people talking about rushing him or whatever, i doubt anyone had time to think that. Honestly if youre just sitting there like its a regular old day and some maniac walks into the lecture hall and just starts firing at random people, your first reaction would probably to be to save yourself and get the hell outta there. Other than that the media coverage has not been that good. They keep trying to blame it on something. IT WAS NO ONE'S FAULT EXCEPT THE SHOOTER'S. Schools dont plan for shit like this because it never happens. Neither do cops. Video Games are not the problem, and gun laws wouldnt have made a difference seeing as the gun was bought illegally.

I just hope those souls can rest in peace. Hopefully this never happens again.

I didn't hear about this until I got to class this morning, from the paper on the table. It wasn't the best news to start the day.

He could have been from China, or Iceland, but the thing was, he was in a country where gun control has lost control.

More needs to be done about this. Creating more laws will just anger people and make them even more hostile then they already (some of them) are. We need Mr. Mcain, I think it is, the senetor of Texas, killed with his own gun, then burn the rest in the country. What people seem to be blind to is, if there were fewer or even no hand guns of any kind available to the public, then why would we need to carry a weapon? I guess they'd all have to grow some balls and use fists like the old timers, and have a good old fashioned asskicking.

Hand guns should only be given to policeman/women, but to the public, why? You don't hunt for food (moose, deer, etc...), for survival, with a 9mm pistol or a fucking handcannon like a .357. You use a hunting rifle, which I find nothing wrong with (hunting, for survival and food). If I had the area and means to hunt my own meat, you damn right I'd be eating deer burgers and moose sausage instead of mass manufactured meat.

Anyways, I'm getting off topic here...oh yeah, no guns=no need for deadly protection. Get rid of the guns will result in victory. More guns won't help, and neither will laws.

We as a community(the whole world) need to just come together, and invision MLKJ's dream of unity and peace. And all the others who have the same dream. Everyone just has to realize, we are all people. We all make mistakes. We all do stupid things. We aren't all too different either...there is too much grouping of people nowadays...actually since the begining of time....Sure people are individuals....but we just need to come together and accept and embrace one another. Dude if guns where not legal in the us, people would still get them, the same sick people would still get them just as easy as a 12 year old could get one. Pot is illegal in the us, but alls u have to do is a little bit of searchin and u can get it EASY. So it makes no diffrence if there legal or not.

Okay look. You have one group of people saying "if nobody carried guns, this wouldn't happen" and another group saying "it's not guns that kill people".

Well this is the truth of the matter.

Guns kill people. People also kill people.

If there were less guns in America, there would be less gun crime. You don't need a gun, except to protect yourself from other people with guns.

However, this type of scenario could still happen if guns were outlawed. I'll admit that, I'd be stupid to disagree. But it would be infinitely less likely to happen if there were less guns. The UK has a tiny fraction of the amount of guns the US has and hey, presto, no gun crime!

In conclusion, lol, guns kill people, people kill people. Get rid of the guns and less people will die. Get rid of the society which creates murderers, and less people will die.

I have many guns. Doesn't mean I commit crimes with them. I am willing to bet a very VERY high majority of the registered gun owners in the United States have never used those guns in a crime, any crime, not just a violent crime. People that get guns illegaly are the ones who perpetuate most of the gun violence in America.

Guns are never going to go away, so I am of the mindset of always be prepared. So arm yourselves to the teeth, the world is a fucked up place these days. I guarantee if just one person he came in contact with had a firearm they would have sent this guy to the dirt, no questions asked. Guns also save lives, just ask any form of law enforcement, saves their lives every day.
