Bad parents, a story.

So I was outside skating today when some kid walked up to me. I could tell that the kid was a little off, but thatâ??s not unusual for this area, and even if it was, no big deal. So I get to ask this dude about his life, and heâ??s kind of funny, different and out there, but funny nevertheless. The conversation drags on, and I get back on my board and skate around the same area so I could get some practice in, and still keep the conversation going.

About 30 mins into the kids life story, I ask him will he be excited to go to high school next year and will his parents let him drive, when he just looks at me with puppy dog eyes and says:
Kid: promise you wonâ??t laugh.
Skrappie: sure dude, whatâ??s up?
Kid: Iâ??m too retarded to learn
Skrappie:â?¦.what?

Now I get to asking him what makes him â??retardedâ?� and, this is the shocker of the story, he told me he couldnâ??t see well.

To wrap the story up the kid, outside of having some vision problems, was pretty normal, the fucked up part is he eventually told me that his parents are the ones that told him he was retarded. I kept asking the kid about different things that would generally classify one as developmentally challenged and he didnâ??t have a problem, just verbally abusive parents.

What the fuck is wrong with people. IF you donâ??t want to put effort into putting effective and healthy (mentally, physically, socially) children in the world, then donâ??t have kids.
Iâ??m so angry right now; I really want to talk to this dudeâ??s parents.

If the kid is fine and it is all his folks that is some messed up BS.

A see a lot of parents these days that seem to have given up on their kids, or they just never cared off the bat :(

that's bullshit. reminds me of the catholic mom in a recent thread; some people shouldn't breathe, let alone reproduce...

If I were you I would go talk to this kids parents. Find out what the deal is man because that is just unacceptable.

while i'm quick to agree with you, you still haven't been the one with him for years.... maybe he is, maybe he really does have problems, maybe he's not telling you the whole story, just mad at his parents and trying for sympathy...

just a thought.. you can't actually know his whole history, just what he tells you...

i still agree tho... if he's telling the absolute truth and whole story.... those parents are horrible.

Unfortunately if you talk to his parents about it they will come down on him harder for speaking about it.

you should be friends with this kid and hangout with him. i'm sure he'd probably like that and you'd probably feel real good because i know that's something that would make me feel good if i knew i was friends with someone that might not have any or has problems at home.

That was my main deal, I didn't want someone who enjoys being an asshole to their children on their off time, be an pissed off asshole on my account. I'll just talk to the kid next time i see him and try to figure out more about his situation, although i don't think i have too many options, it won't hurt to listen to him.

I dont understand how a parent could do that to their child. Be his friends. He sounds like he needs as many positive figures in his life as he can get.

yeah, i'd definately suggest maybe later on, telling him all the stories of children who were told they would be nothing, or do nothing, and grow up to be very reputable people... can't think of any off the top of my head, but i've read plenty of these stories.

i think peopel underestimate the mind alot... so what if the kid 'isn't all there or slower then others' .... you can literally do almost anything you put your mind to (i only say almost cuz of course, you can't flap your arms and fly no matter how bad you want) it's not a brain that lets you succeed in life, it's will power... and how you choose to utilize your brainpower.

Haha my parents told me I wouldn't graduate, that I had a learning disability, etc. It's life (shit is always hittin the fan). Pretty fucked up how humans react to each other. With positive influences like yourself, he'll have a fine future. Keep it up bud!

I feel exactly the same as you man. I used to have a friend who had a brain tumour - and because of this he lost all his vision apart from his pripheral vision - and people used to take the piss out of him - but his parents wernt like that. At leasts he's in a better place now.

But that kids parents are horrible people, i cant begin to think what they've made him think of himself. I cant stand people like that.
