Need u guys input on waitering
Well next week I'm gonna start training to be a waiter at this local restaurant. It's my first job as a waiter and my question is this....
is there anything in particular that waiters say/do that makes you smile and want to leave a bigger tip for them. anything at all
much appreciated guys

When they ask if you're out for a special occasion
When they make jokes and seem genuinely friendly
When they're extremely hot. <_<

I work at an "upscale" restaraunt- the thing that gets the biggest tips is being personable.
Behind that, knowing about the food, wine, etc. and having a favorite dish helps the cash flow.

i used to run a restraunt. the thing we told our wait staff was to make the table you are waiting on feel like they are the only table you have. don't be in a huge hurry when you talk it makes people feel rushed. introduce yourself so they know who to ask for if they need you. just be a calm cool and collected person. it makes the customer feel comfortable and at the same time it will help you get your work done more quickly. oh yeah, you would be suprised what a little note on the back of the bill will do for a waiter/waitress tips. just write thanks have a good morning/day/night and put your name under the note. if you put your name on the bill they are more likley to remember it and you have a chance of customers coming back and asking specifically for you. basically you make everyone you wait on think your their best friend.

I would suggest keeping an eye on their drinks. I always leave a bigger tip if my glass is always filled :)

And if none of that works, show 'em a bit of sac.

let gay men touch your hair, they love love it.

Just be genuinely friendly...because it always shows when a waiter is pretending to be nice and when its genuine.

Ha ha! :p
I know as a customer, what I like is good service, but not too good. Yes, there is such a thing.
Don't be too pesty. If their glasses are empty, ask them if they want more. I can't stand it when a server comes every 5 minutes to ask how you are doing. Serve the meal, wait a few minutes, then come back and ask if everything is okay.
Let them eat, and finish their meal. I don't like it much when I have a mouth full of food and they ask if I need anything.
I don't know, that's all I guess. Probably not too helpful, but that's what I like from a server. Good service, but don't brownnose either by being too helpful.
Good luck! I worked as a dishwasher in a resturaunt once. Those servers, well...good luck. :D

I'd say be personable but not too much. I hate when I'm trying to do business in a restaurant and some asshole keeps coming up to me "Are you guys ok?" Just remember they come out for good service but most importantly they came for there own entertainment.

Refill their drinks when they start to get low.
Be very friendly. If you can joke around with them and make them feel comfortable, you will prob get a better tip.
Once you do it for a while you will have an idea before hand if the people you are waiting on will leave a decent tip.
For example, if they are running you all over the place, put other tables above them because chances are, they won't leave you shit.
Waiting tables is the worst job I have ever had. Good luck, if you get good at it, and work at a good resturant, you can easily make over 100 bucks a night.

Customer service is all about kissing major ass. Keep a smile on your face, customer is always right, be appologetic.........if someone is lashing at ya for no good reason on one table and you keep up the smile and good attitude the next table may just feel a bit more sorry for ya with their tip; "Did ya see what that poor young man had to put up with there? Give him an extra couple buck paw." lol
Have a good one!

Oh and, if you are waiting on a table of older ladies, flirt like hell and make them feel young.
It sometimes works with younger girls too, but not as well as with the older ladies.

Be nice to teenagers.
Be nice to old people.
Be respectful to the middle aged.
Joke with the friendly.
Don't be up the uptight's ass.
When spoken to, speak back.
Offer your favourite for those who can't chose.
Just be yourself.
In some resturaunts people can ask for a waiter,
be that one they ask for ;)
