Perlite turning yellow!? HELP!
Hi guys,
I just took out my 4' florecents and put in a 400 watt MH. A good part of my mix is made from perlite and is now turning yellow on the surface.
Plants are 16" away from the bulb and it is NOT hot to the hand. Is the bulb to close to the plants? Don't want to burn them.
Oh, I transplanted the plants last night into 2 gal containers.
Is this normal for the perlite to change yellow? I think the lights are to close...I dono. Room is well vented and is around 80 degrees.
THANKS!
Perlite turning yellow!? HELP!
usually if the perlite changes colors, its in a greenhouse under mist and its just algae, nothing to worry about in that situation, but I am stumped why it would be doing this indoors...I might have to get back to this one
Perlite turning yellow!? HELP!
I was misting the seedlings with some distilled water, could that be why? Shall I no longer mist the plants? Thank you!!

Same thing happens to me. After I water the plants, perlite looks nice and shiny white, but after a few days it looks a dull yellowish color until I water again. Plants don't seem to mind so I haven't thought anything of it. Oh ya, I add 2 tbps of h2o2/5 gallons, if that means anything to ya.

Do you mix in the Hydrogen Peroxide with the other nutes or do you apply them at a different time??

theres no need to add h202 if your perilite is a lil yellow.....it shouldnt affect your plant.

^ IA. H2O2 is for algae. I've considered reasonings to this predicament recently because I got it too. I'm guessing it is soil dust/debris that has 'baked' onto the pearlite after watering.

its just a few metals and chlorine in the water as some distiled water isnt that clean some poeple think boiling water thats cooled down is the same its not distiled is evaporated or if it was bottled water then read whats in it as you will be amazed at how much difert metal minrals and such are in them i distill my own water from rain water it works well and no yellow perlite
Perlite turning yellow!? HELP!
....it could be minerals, I'm not even going to try to deny that, however, it's almost like the perlite is burnt. As in I went to the beach and I got burnt....lol. All I know is so far it hasn't affected my plants...or anyone else around, or they would have spoke up.

Rusty water anyone? happens to me every grow, post a pic to settle the matter.
Perlite turning yellow!? HELP!
No, I used distilled water. It has to be minerals in the soil or dust from soil baking into it.
crappy pic included to show discolouration

I agree, mine's turned a bit yellow too..is definitely just stuff from soil...it's happened on previous times too for me.
